Overview
Sitting alongside Kentchurch Court, the location of this thoughtfully curated lodge is inspiring. The estate is steeped in history and you start each day as if you’ve stepped into another time. Beautifully rural with a deer park just behind, you can get away from it all but are just a short stroll from the nearest pub. Exciting days out are on the cards with a trip to Grosmont Castle, the thriving town of Monmouth or the breathtaking Brecon Beacons.
Upper Lodge provides a sense of tranquillity and is a great space to gather with friends and family. The old and the new complement each other here with original fireplaces, arched windows, funky textiles and modern artwork. Dine alongside garden views in the fabulous kitchen while the spacious living room tempts you in to relax. As the fire roars settle in for a cosy evening with your loved ones, enjoying this peaceful spot where you can escape to another world. Three bedrooms, each with their own en-suite, are on the first floor with garden views and splashes of colour.
Outside, the style continues with a fantastic, enclosed garden where the children and dogs can while away the hours playing games. Put your feet up and listen to the sounds of nature and the sizzling BBQ while the outdoor table is set for a feast. On open days, visit the gardens at Kentchurch Court and learn more about this historic estate, ancestral home of the Lucas-Scudamore family.

En-suite
With its black and white tiling accented by salmon pink lining, bedroom two's en-suite has a distinctly Parisian feel, while the walk-in shower and curved wall mirror elevate the space.
Bedroom Three
Mirroring the style of Upper Lodge's first two bedrooms, this twin room exudes rustic charm. The beds can be arranged as a super king-size on request. With its classic wooden accents and elegant lighting, we love the cosy feel to this room.
En-suite
Soaked in natural light, bedroom three's gleaming en-suite signs off this room with grandeur. With a rainfall shower, ivy green tiling and quirky art it's a fun addition to this room.
Outside
Open the elegant French doors from the kitchen/diner to Upper Lodge's tranquil outside space and you'll instantly feel at ease. A private and enclosed walled garden where you can revel in the quiet surroundings of Kentchurch Court, spend time playing croquet on the lawn or wander over to the terrace that weaves around the property. As the sun begins to sink across the Herefordshire skyline, switch on the festoon lights and enjoy dinner at the table, or pull out a lounger to catch the last few rays of the day. Idyllic Countryside Escape

This was our second visit to Upper Lodge. We were very excited to return for a family break away from it all.
It was just as beautiful and homely as wed remembered. Facilities and interior design touches around the lodge are stunning. Dog friendly and safe which was high on our list of priorities. A warm welcome from the team by way of messages and a goodie package.
Location 10/10.
Want to return again next year.

A family gathering to mark my retirement

The house is so well equipped and the on site team were so helpful with minor queries. But the setting, hidden in a secret valley at the end of the drive, and with the estates own pub a brisk walk away, is magical.

Possibly the quietest place we have ever stayed

A very peaceful location, just us and the resident goshawk. The kitchen equipment was all of a very high standard. We enjoyed the gardens and grounds.

Our Perfect Stay at Upper Lodge

We had an incredible 5-day stay at Upper Lodge, Kentchurch. The location is simply idyllic, set within the beautiful Kentchurch estate, and we loved wandering around the gardens. The lodge itself is stunning, spacious with generous living areas and beautiful en-suite bathrooms, all beautifully designed and decorated to perfectly fit its surroundings. Every detail was thoughtfully catered for, with 5 star, luxurious fixtures and fittings throughout.
The outside space is fantastic, with plenty of seating to relax and take in the views. The bedrooms were exceptional, we slept like we were in hibernation behind the gorgeous curtains and on the super comfortable beds.
Helen, the housekeeper, was incredibly helpful and made sure everything we needed was taken care of. In the evenings, we enjoyed the short walk down to the local Bridge pub, which added to the charm of the stay.
Highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful countryside escape in a truly special setting.

An absolute gem of a find! We will definitely be coming back. This amazing centuries old stone lodge, tastefully renovated to a high standard with an expansive walled in garden and outdoor seating around the firepit. Absolute heaven. Very short distances to Grosmont Castle and The Angel Inn, The Bridge Pub (walkable if you're in fair shape) and The Old Stables award winning Fish and Chips at Ewyas Harold (and the Temple Bar Inn and The Dog Pub). Luxury ensuite bedrooms. And a very sweet, responsive host.

Wonderful

We stayed at Upper Lodge for the weekend and even before arriving Helen, our wonderful host, was so helpful in ensuring we had a comfortable stay. The Lodge and furnishings were immaculate and lots of extras provided including a lovely welcome hamper which we really appreciated. We loved the extras like the dart board, boules and croquet sets which provided much entertainment. We took our dogs and they had a wonderful time and enjoyed the enclosed garden. A very special thank you to Helen who went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable weekend. I highly recommend Upper Lodge.

Upper Lodge at Kentchurch is a beautiful, relaxing, well appointed and excellently decorated/ furnished home. We loved the cosy hall where the dogs slept and where you could sit to put your boots on. The bedrooms were all lovely and well sized, with terrific bathrooms. The garden was private and well enclosed - with one of the walls being a lovely sun trap, even in December! And the setting is glorious, with a stream running alongside and access to a majestic deer park. Everything was perfect. We will be back!

Everything about our stay at Upper Lodge was exceptional. The accommodation is wonderful with all requirements for our stay catered for. The quality of the property is the best we have stayed in. Booking was easy, directions were given and Helen the housekeeper answered all questions instantly via email. I will be booking next year without hesitation.

Fabulous

The house was really fabulous with great decor, comfy beds and a fully enclosed garden for the dog. Beautiful gardens adjacent where you can buy lovely plants. Plenty of places to eat locally though a car is needed for most (the same for shops).
Very peaceful place with well stocked kitchen as well as croquet, boules and darts.

Absolutely wonderful property to stay in. Very high standard. Beautiful location.

The property was just wonderful with so many supplies that we felt like we had all the comforts of home! Linda and Helen were so kind and helpful. The location absolutely requires a car to get around, but the walks, the streams, hills and rivers, the villages etc etc are just out of this world. By the end of the holiday we felt like we were part of the family and will be rebooking 100% to stay again. We did actually extend our stay because we still had lots to see and do and it was worth it. No one actually wanted to leave to be honest. Be prepared to wait for flocks of partridges and sheep to get out of your way in their own time whilst trying to get to your destinations. This property would be beautiful in Autumn and in Winter too so you really cannot go wrong.
