Overview
Hidden away in a corner behind the village green in Great Tew, Thatch on the Green is a beautiful cottage for your Cotswold holiday. You are greeted by its chocolate box exterior and quaint garden path which leads you into this traditional cottage filled with original features. Once two cottages, Thatch on the Green sleeps up to six with a quirky layout which lends itself perfectly to families or two couples. The living area has stone flooring and mullioned windows with a large fireplace housing the open fire. There are so many cosy spots to curl up and relax including a window seat looking out to the front garden and a sofa in front of the bookcase on your way through to the dining area. The dining table dates back to the age of the cottage and provides a lovely space to dine together. At the rear of the cottage is the compact kitchen, cloakroom and a boot room with laundry facilities.
The first floor is split between two staircases. From the dining area you reach the first bedroom with a king-size bed and bathroom, and from the kitchen is a double and a twin room which share a bathroom. This unique arrangement gives couples privacy and provides accommodation options for families. Each room has been carefully finished with décor in keeping with the age of the property which also adds a fresh and contemporary touch.
Outside, the large garden, which isn’t overlooked in any direction, is the icing on the cake. To the rear is a paved area with a large table and chairs so you can enjoy your meals outside. You will see birds flitting to and from the nest tucked up under the porch roof. From here steps take you up to the back entrance which takes you to the private parking space. To the side of the cottage is a large, sloped lawn where you can spread out with a picnic and play with the children while enjoying the wonderful countryside views. It is fully enclosed making it perfect for your dogs.
Ground Floor
Living Room:
The front entrance takes you into the living room where there is a small step up in the stone floor. This room has a choice of seating, an open fire in a large exposed stone inglenook fireplace and painted beams above. One step down takes you along a short corridor passing bookcases filled with novels, local history, board games and glasses for setting the dining table.
Dining Room:
Looking out across the garden the dining area has a large wooden table and statement carved chairs which are perfectly in-keeping with the time of the cottage. Mullioned windows add character and there is a wood burning stove in a corner surround.
Kitchen:
From the living room one step takes you down into the modern cottage kitchen which is well-equipped for your stay. A side door opens directly onto the patio where there is an outdoor dining set for enjoying evening meals in fairer weather.
Cloakroom:
Beyond the kitchen before heading upstairs is a ground floor cloakroom with a WC and sink.
Boot Room/Utility:
The dining area opens to the boot room which doubles as a utility with laundry facilities and a sink. This is a great space for bringing the dogs in and drying them off after exploring the local walks.
First Floor
The first floor is split across two areas with separate staircases. From the dining area there are stairs with no handrail up to bedroom one and a bathroom. From the kitchen you reach bedroom two and stairs with no handrail take you up to the second floor with bedroom three and bathroom.
Bedroom One:
This master bedroom with a king-size bed is a private retreat looking out over the cottage garden. There is an almost French style to the room with light blues and painted furniture. It is a very quiet space tucked away from the rest of the cottage.
Bathroom:
The bathroom next door acts almost as an en-suite to this room and has a bath with a shower over, WC and sink.
Bedroom Two:
Up the stairs from the kitchen side of the cottage is the second bedroom with a double bed. With painted beams and a neutral finish, this comfortable room will provide a restful night’s sleep.
Second Floor
Bathroom:
At the top of the cottage is the second bathroom, ideal for bedrooms two and three. There is a bath with a shower over, WC and sink.
Bedroom Three:
The final bedroom is a lovely twin room nestled under the eaves with exposed wooden beams. The soft furnishings beautifully fit the features of this room and shelving behind the beds with statement lamps provides space for keeping your book and a glass of water.
Outside
The fabulous garden at Thatch on the Green is fully enclosed and enjoys the benefit of not being overlooked. You can spend time here with your family and pets, playing on the lawn, dining outside, sharing evening glasses of champagne on the loungers or for a morning cup of coffee. The views are spectacular at any time of year and the sounds of birdsong make you feel at one with your natural surroundings. There is one private parking space which you can reach from the upper garden behind the paved dining area and the free car park is a short walk just behind the cottage.

We had a fantastic stay as a family of 4 adults. The space was perfect for a quiet weekend out of the city, and we especially enjoyed sitting near the wood burning fire.
Lauren
As a family of 5 adults, we had a wonderful stay at this beautiful property in Great Tew. The house was pristine and looked every bit as beautiful as the photos. Instructions from the property owner were clear and concise. Property was easily located and every need was catered for to start our family trip to the Cotswolds. An ideal base from which to explore the locality environs.
Glenn
The most perfectly appointed home in the heart of the Cotswolds. Everything you could ask for and more!

Two words describe the place: warm and affectionate. One of the most wonderful experiences is that we stayed in this nice and quiet cottage. Cleanliness, decoration, supplies are available, even games are available. The words do not do justice to the place. We enjoyed the place and escaped the noise of the city and lived in the arms of nature. I highly recommend the place and I hope we have another chance to stay.
Noor
Beautiful period cottage in a gorgeous village with a fab cafe and pub. Safe and enclosed garden for our dog. Well equipped kitchen. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Great cottage, would highly recommend.
Juliet
Gorgeous chocolate box cottage in a beautiful village. Very peaceful and spacious. We loved the fireplace!
Marguerite
This was one of the best properties we have stayed in! The cottage is both cosy and functional for us with 2 children. Spotlessly clean, I mean spotless! And also homey at the same time. Each room having beautiful fresh towels and a hair dryer was indicative of how much care and attention was given to the whole property and guest experience. The cottage itself is beautiful and quiet but at the same time a cafe is just across the green, and next to it a pub! We will be back 10/10.

Great Tew Cottage

Really cosy cottage with a great garden in the centre of the village. The cottage has a lot of character. The local pub is excellent !

Wonderful experience

Our whole experience was wonderful! Communication was great, the cottage was divine and all the little extra touches (for example freshly baked bread, torches in the bedside tables, fresh flowers throughout
) were the icing on the cake. The village is adorable and the cafe and the pub were top notch. Highly, highly recommend.

Charming cottage

The Thatch is a charming cottage and very comfortable overall. The only issue being that it was a bit cold. The heating was patchy and it maybe just that the the radiators need bleeding?
Otherwise Id highly recommend this idyllic cottage, its clean, stylish very well equipped and could not be in a better location. It truly is a rural dream.

Birthday Trip

What a delightful place to spend my 60th Birthday- the cottage was everything we needed and the village a delight. Visits to the cafe and pub a must.
We hope to return.

Elegant lodging in prime location

We were two couples and stayed three nights. Lovely home inside and out with classy furnishings and three beautiful, very private outdoor areas. Extremely clean and very quiet. Short walk to a great pub and cafe, as well as a public footpath for morning and evening strolls. Window in one of the bedrooms was inoperable and hopefully that will be addressed.

Beautiful, if a tad tired, holiday house in a fantastic location .

Lovely holiday house in a superb location. Great Tew is a great base from which to explore the Cotswolds and the village pub and tea room are gems on the doorstep!

Beautiful Cottage

Perfectly presented just as one imagines with a thatched cottage.
Beds lovely and comfortable
Headroom a bit tight for tall people in upstairs twin room and bathroom but again what you would expect in a thatched cottage.
Beautiful furnishings and lovely appliances.
Outside garden area lovely and looked beautiful with fairy lights though not used as the weather was damp and windy which made the inside all the more cosy.
Bolthole Retreats always lovely to deal with.
