Queens Cottage is a charming and carefully restored, two bedroom cottage on the Sudeley Estate. It is an ideal base in the North Cotswolds in a quiet and peaceful location which is a walkers' paradise. The cottage was previously an engine house and through the double front doors you will find wooden beams and a quirky circular window in the twin room. The ground floor is a spacious living and dining area with a well-equipped kitchen that leads out to an elevated patio with dining table that faces into the cottage courtyard. The sofa converts into a double bed and upstairs are two comfortable and well-appointed bedrooms and a large family shower room.

During your stay, you are entitled to free admission to Sudeley Castle and Gardens during the Castle’s open season (except for separately ticketed events).

Overview

Over its vivid and expansive history, Sudeley Castle has played host to many of England’s reigning queens, from Anne Boleyn to Queen Elizabeth. Named in commemoration of all its regal visitors of the past, Queens Cottage is an elegantly converted old engine house that offers guests a stay in a historic setting.

The front outdoor dining area overlooks the estate courtyard and is a lovely spot to enjoy a morning coffee before heading out for the day, perhaps to Sudeley Castle. The ground floor is spacious and open plan with a comfortable sitting area, dining area and a kitchen to the rear. There is also a family bathroom. In the sitting area one of the sofas can be converted into a double bed. Historic images remind you of this cottages' past and in the living area a discerning picture of Queen Victoria overlooks your adventure planning. At the end of the day this is a lovely place to put your feet up and enjoy a movie night. Upstairs both bedrooms offer plenty of storage and share use of the family shower room.

From your front door you are a short walk from Winchcombe and the country pubs, restaurants and wonderful walks that are on offer. Cheltenham, Cleeve Hill and Bourton and Broadway further afield are all easily reached and well worth a visit during your time here.

Fantastic cottage in a fantastic location, we loved our stay. The only improvement we would suggest would be the temperature of the shower which occasionally would turn very cold and then become warm again after a minute

Lovely cottage and location

Verified Up Front Reviews
Cottage was lovely. Washing machine, microwave, hob, cooker, dishwasher etc were all provided. Plenty of parking. We had visited the cottage 30 years ago with our kids, so it was like going down memory lane for us and it didn’t disappoint. Being able to visit the castle by way of a short foot path was a real bonus. The castle is well worth the visit and is included in the price. Plenty of pubs, restaurant and takeaways within a 5 to 10 min walk not o mention a co-op in Winchcombe that is 5 minutes away. We will be going back again but we wont leave it 30 years this time. Would highly recommend.

Booked a week at Sudeley Castle Cottages. Clean, well appointed rooms with excellent facilities. All this in a great setting. Within easy reach of local take aways and restaurants. A visit to the fantastic Sudeley Castle was included for free and well worth it. Definitely recommended.

Sudeley

Verified Up Front Reviews
The cottage is in a great location for visiting Sudeley and the Cotswolds, a good layout, a good size and has the amenities needed. However, it needs a thorough clean and refresh. Scruffy in areas, upstairs shower mouldy, rusty and full of scale, the kitchen sink was not clean, the fridge had food debris in it, the cutlery draw full of crumbs. Behind the beds was a big built up of spiders webs, dust and hair. The sofa’s need cleaning. We were disappointed by the cleanliness and spent the first couple of hours cleaning but many of the issues we could not rectify, certainly not what you want to do on arriving on holiday.

Sudeley Castle Cottages in May

Verified Up Front Reviews
Good location. Cottage well equipped. Nice to be able to visit Sudeley Castle. Parking was a problem when we arrived on Friday afternoon as people had not parked well so marked bays might be a good idea and provide fairness, also perhaps limiting the number of vehicles per cottage. A nice high backed armchair would be nice for those not able to get down to the low sofas!

We loved our short stay in Queens Cottage. It is a characterful house and has a very pleasant open plan kitchen/living room downstairs and comfortable bedrooms with a bathroom upstairs and downstairs for convenience. Our hosts made us feel very welcome with tea, a coffee machine, milk in the fridge, and a decorated Christmas tree and Christmas gift! The cottage is in a peaceful enclave with good parking and within an easy walk of Winchcombe town with its wonderful pubs, shops and restaurants. There are great walks to do around Sudeley Castle and beyond Winchcombe on the Cotswold Way. We look forward to our next stay in Queens Cottage.

Martin

Such a sweet little cottage. So nice to have coffee and tea supplied as a welcoming gift. Also very special to have a Christmas tree set up for our holiday stay. The whole area is so charming.

We had a wonderful stay at Queens Cottage! The space was impeccably clean and well-maintained, making us feel comfortable and welcome. We greatly enjoyed the serene ambiance of the town—the quaint nature of the cottages and the beautiful surroundings made for an incredible experience. I would highly recommend Sudeley Castle Cottages to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. We look forward to returning in the future should the opportunity present itself.

Family trip

Verified Up Front Reviews
My daughter moved to winchcombe last year we wanted a family holiday near her with wheelchair access. This cottage was ideal for location, full of character it had everything we needed. It had a downstairs bathroom, which worked but not entirely as it was a bath not a shower so mum couldn’t access it fully. There’s plenty of disabled parking in town so the hill was not a problem. The staff were extremely friendly and sorted out our queries immediately. We loved our visit to Sudeley castle and gardens which is included in the stay. We would definitely stay here again very good value for money.

Queens Cottage - Poor Condition

Verified Up Front Reviews
This property is in a very poor condition and is in need of a well overdue refurbishment both inside and out, The outside patio has loose flags/wall and care should be taken when approaching the property. Other properties in the courtyard offer much better value and should be preferred when booking.

Pleasant Stay

Verified Up Front Reviews
We much enjoyed our brief stay at Queens Cottage. Overall it was comfortable, spacious and well-equipped. The location was excellent, being a short stroll to all the shops and facilities that Winchcombe has to offer as well as the heritage railway nearby to visit Broadway and Cheltenham. It was a bonus to have complimentary access to Sudeley Castle and gardens, also a short walk away, which was very enjoyable with an extensive display of artefacts in the castle, lovely grounds and church with Katherine Parr's final resting place. A few minor issues jarred regarding the cottage itself:- - The sofa cushions were stained and worn and offered no support, collapsing when sat upon. - The view from the rear kitchen window was unpleasant, resembling a mini waste/storage site, and had evidently been visited by a dog! - When we returned to the cottage on Friday evening we were unable to park in the communal parking area as it was full so had no choice but to park outside the cottage.

Overall a great place for families to stay. Well located and have all the amenities including for babies. We stayed here with our parents and kids and everyone was quite comfortable. Just one suggestion - the downstairs bath can have a shower curtain so that it can be used without making much mess.

Lovely cottage, just not for 6 people

Verified Up Front Reviews
The cottage is beautiful, the location lovely and very short walk into the village. It was very clean, and most of the amenities were in good condition. However - this is advertised as for 4-6 people - there are only 5 chairs at the table and outside, and it's very short on crockery, larger pans ect. The only fry pan is small hand sized! Also, the 'sofa bed' has a mattress than is approx 1.5 inches thick - impossible to sleep on! Onto wires. We had to pad it out with all the cushions from the sofa, not ideal at all. I'd recommend for 4 , but definitely not for 6!

I have stayed in the cottages at Sudeley many times and have always found them to be well-maintained and comfortable. The location is terrific with the village and the castle so close. We stayed in the queens cottage and we cannot say anything but Good things about this place. Being in the castle cottages is fantastic, we loved to be able to enter the castle and its beautiful gardens, as much as we liked winchcombe and its proximity to other beautiful costwolds key places. As for the cottage ítself, it was incredibly clean and tidy, with everything you could need for your stay, just as if you Were at home. Parking is very accesible and easy. VERY Good value for money for england. If i came back to the costwolds, i would definitely stay here again. Thanks bolthole retreat for a wonderful stay.

Wonderful stay at the Queen’s Cottage!

Verified Up Front Reviews
We really enjoyed our stay at Sudeley Cottages. It was the perfect location for attending a wedding at Sudeley Castle. The Queens Cottage was well equipped and clean. The only small niggle was the wall light as you look down over the stairs. Lots of bugs and cobwebs in the light - this can easily be cleaned, so not a major detractor. Overall, a wonderful experience!

Great stay

Verified Up Front Reviews
Stayed for week in September. Great location for exploring the rest of the cotswolds by car. House was clean comfortable and spacious. Overall had no issues but scored customer service 3/5 as had no interaction with anyone good or bad! Was on the expensive side for the area I would think but short walk to village / walking paths made up for this. Free entry to sudeley castle is a nice perk. One negative was there seemed to be no where to recycle glass?

A four night stay in a Cotswold bolthole.

Verified Up Front Reviews
Our first Cotswold Cottage holiday was for four night in "Queens Cottage at Sudeley Castle, close to Winchcombe. The Cottage was a two bedroomed detached property within a group of stone built cottages dating back many years, but thoroughly modern and well fitted out. Comprising two bed rooms and a bathroom up stairs and a lounge dining room and kitchen, together with a second bathroom down stairs. The interior decor was light and with numerous windows it had a light and airy character. Carpeted throughout, and with two large settees, a dining table and an excellent kitchen with all modern appliances it made for a most hospitable and comfortable residence. WiFi and a large television were included but we never used either device during our stay. The tow bedrooms, each with a wardrobe plus chest of drawers provided ample storage, the one bedroom had a large double bed, and the second bedroom had two single beds. All the beds were very comfortable and provided with full fresh bedlinen. On entering the cottage the appearance was one of extreme tidiness and good condition to all fittings, and excellent provisioning of towels, face flannels and kitchen linen, plus wahing and shampooing products in both bathrooms. The atmosphere was one of peaceful, quiet tranquility, it was hard to know that other families were staying in the "complex" were it not for the dozen or so cars in the ample private parking area. Directions for arrival and entering the cottage were concise and simple, having been provided well before we departed from home, and a comprehensive gazetteer of Winchcombe and the Cotswold area was provided on the coffee table. THe cottages were situated about 200 yards from the main street through the town with numerous small shops and a goodly number of excellent eating establishments. If ever we return to the Cotswolds for an holiday, we will know exactly where to stay by returning to the cottages at Sudeley Castle.

Another lovely stay at Queen's Cottage

Verified Up Front Reviews
We returned to Sudeley a second time for our Easter break, the cottage is clean comfortable both in winter and spring. Perfect location to Winchcombe and a lovely walk to the castle. The cottage has everything you may need the bathrooms are very clean with towels and a few toiletries, great for when you’ve forgotten something. The team at the cottages work very hard, there wasn’t a day they were not there cleaning other cottages getting them ready for new guests. We managed to misplace our key whilst there, which was replaced quickly without any fuss.(Thanks to Gary!) Thank you all again for a perfect stay, we hope to be back soon.

All fine thank you and we enjoyed our stat but it was a pity there was so little information provided in the brochure about how things like the cooker and other gadgets work. This is usually provided in self catering properties. Also, re cycling arrangements were non existent--no separate containers in the kitchen and no blue bins in the yard. We asked one of the cleaners and she said she didnt know! We had to take our re cycling to the communal site in the town!

A brief encounter.

Verified Up Front Reviews
The Queens Cottage has been reconfigured from its original design as a pump house into spacious holiday accommodation that sleeps six. This Cottage is well equipped with all up to date amenities and is situated close to the town and Sudeley castle. We would certainly visit again and would recommend to all. There are a couple of issues that we feel need to be brought to the attention of the managing agents. These are :- The fridge/freezer is far to small to accommodate food for up to 6 persons, the freezer is very small. Cottages within the complex sleeping less than 6 have huge fridge/freezers. Also the downstairs bathroom/toilet is situated next to the kitchen area with only one door between,My understanding it should be 2 doors. Regards Martin Power

a comfortable and pleasant stay although a few niggles.

Verified Up Front Reviews
very comfortable living and sleeping areas with a very well equipped kitchen and lovely toiletries. However there are a few points to make which could improve the stay. Bedroom mirrors are on the floor, propped up against the wall meaning that you are able to see yourself from the waist down. there is room in both bedrooms for a small stool/unit for the mirror to be stood on or better still, attach to the wall! Hair drying needs to be done on the landing where there is a wall mirror and plug nearby. The Step down outside one bedroom is covered with the same carpet as the landing with nothing to highlight that it is there. I fell down this step during the night badly bruising my arm on the railing nearby. Slanting ceiling on the window side of the same bedroom should be highlighted with something either hanging from it or marked with something coloured. The slopes are white, the same colour as the walls and ceilings making them difficult to see if you are not walking around that side of the bed with shoulders bent down. Again I hit my head quite hard when walking around to open the curtains. One chair in the living room has a very badly damaged seat. Made from faux leather (plastic) it is cracked over its entire surface to the extent that it flakes off onto the floor. It should not be in the room. cold tap in downstairs bathroom is not properly attached to the basin and wobbles around when used. Apart from that, we enjoyed our visit to the Cotswolds.

Really enjoyed our stay in Queens cottage. Fantastic location, for visiting all of the Cotswold villages. Only a 5 minute walk into Winchcombe to access some lovely pubs and restaurants. Free entrance into Sudeley Castle was an added bonus. A few small improvements could make the cottage even better, new patio furniture and dining room chairs would be a good investment as they looked a little tired but we would definitely return.

Very nice holiday cottage

The booking process and arrangements were fine, the cottage was very clean and the standard of fittings and contents were excellent; everything that you need for a stay is there. The location is great: near to Sudeley Castle and within a short drive or Bourton-on-the-Water, Tewkesbury, Cheltenham etc. My only criticism would be that the outdoor table and chairs on the patio are rather shabby.

A long weekend in Winchcombe

Verified Up Front Reviews
We really enjoyed our stay at Queen’s cottage near Sudeley Castle. It was comfortable, well equipped and very warm. With just two of us staying there was plenty of room, and a luxury to have a bathroom each. A little tired looking in places, this didn’t spoil our stay, despite weather warnings and torrential rain.

Anna Barnes

Nice cottage, easy access to Winchcombe shops and restaurants and to Sudeley Castle

Verified Up Front Reviews
Nice and comfortable cottage, with two minor downsides: from the photos, it seems like there is more of an open view in front of it than in reality, where the other cottages are close by (but the whole area of cottages is very well designed); and the ceiling in the kitchen is quite low, which wasn’t an issue for my wife, our toddlers and I (I’m the tallest of all four at 1.72m or 5’8’’) but may feel cramped for someone taller. About the broader area, the cottage offers easy access to Winchcombe shops and restaurants (the nearest pub is 2 minutes walk away, the mid-size Coop less than 10 minutes walk away), and to Sudeley Castle. Take-aways from the Thai and pizza place (it’s the same one, we tried both types of food) and the Chinese place are really good (and 2-3 minutes away). Finally, the cottage gives you free access to Sudeley Castle, which has an amazing playground where we went three times.

A fantastic cottage that I would thoroughly recommend. However, one issue... it is classed as disabled friendly but the front door has enough of a lip on it which meant I had to find pieces of wood from a skip to get my husband in the front door otherwise we would have been in real trouble!! Also it would have been amazing if the downstairs bathroom was a wet room then I’d give it 10/10

When you live in New Zealand & dream of history, beautiful English countryside & charming old buildings - Queens Cottage was the perfect answer to your dreams. The cottage was totally modern inside with everything you could possibly need. The first 2 days of the essentials - coffee, tea, milk were left for you with a large kitchen for self catering. The beds were very comfortable , the bathrooms very spacious with bath as well as shower. The location was perfect - plenty of walks & places to explore nearby but if you want a car free day you can walk to Sudeley Castle, to the lovely town of Winchcombe or go on one of the many walks around. I will be recommending these cottages to all my friends in England & back home.

Nice Stay

The Cottage was was nice, but a few items that were supposed to be left for us were not there. An investment in some new pillows would be would be great, maybe next time I will take my own! The 4pm check-in was a little late as we had been on the road for nearly 5hrs and just wanted to get there. A later check-out would be nice too, 10am is a little early. There was very little information at the cottage about things of interest to do-I did at the end find brochures/leaflets in the Telephone box in the main square! All in all is was a nice trip.

Very impressed

Great location for our visit. The cottage was spotlessly clean and of a very high standard. My American friends who were staying with me were very impressed. I would have no hesitation recommending this property.

A beautiful country cottage within a few minutes walk of Winchcombe.

What a pretty cottage with everything you need for a break in the country. It was extremely well equipped with plenty of glassware and crockery and was very clean and freshly decorated. We wanted to spend a few days visiting Sudeley Castle and found the position ideal enabling us to walk to the town in a few minutes.Although we chose to drive to the castle on visiting afternoons due to our age and various disabilities, we walked it the first evening and it was easily doable for younger more active folk.We would love to return sometime.

Amazing Costwolds Cottage!

My family and I had an absolutely fantastic experience staying in Queen's Cottage. It's clean and modern and comfortable inside, and quaint and beautiful outside. It's a perfect location to enjoy all the Cotswolds has to offer, and our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer.

Very enjoyable weekend

Verified Up Front Reviews
Five of us stayed for two nights. Queens Cottage seems to have been updated fairly recently and is in great condition. Upon arrival the key was present and had no difficulty entering. There was fresh milk, coffee , and tea left for us. The only interaction with staff was via email when my US credit card wasn't accepted when reserving. The email from someone at Bolthole let me know that most US banks have protocols to prevent fraudulent transactions overseas and explained how to resolve the issue quickly. We enjoyed our visit and would certainly recommend the cottages at Sudeley Castle to those who want to visit the Cotswolds.

Lovely cottage, homely , clean and comfortable . perfect location for walking and so close to the town ! Clean ,cotton bedding and towels - could have done with a spare toilet roll for upstairs and downstairs ! on arrival key code didn’t work but contact number was answered quickly and correct one given ! Already discussing returning with my friends . Little pointers fro if you are thinking of booking : sofa bed is a little small for 2 , Bring something to put your dirty walking boots onto as you walk straight into the lounge .

I stayed here with my family for a festive weekend, and it was lovely. The cottage had all the amenities you'd need. It was refreshing to stay in a place that had thought of everything. We wished we could if stayed one more night.

An excellent break in a lovely cottage and Cotswold town. Had problems with the cooker, it was an unfamiliar induction hob . The staff were excellent in dealing with it and resolving the issue.

Expected much more

Verified Up Front Reviews
The cottage was clean and in good location to walk into Winchcombe and Sudeley Castle. Otherwise is didn’t live up to expensive expectations. No code was given to enter cottage. Only that tge cleaners were still there did we get access. We’d assumed there would he a reception. Many small things were broken and large yellow warning signs of hot water made you think tge owners thought you were idiots. The closeness of cottages made the not private unkess curtains were drawn. Basically wouldn’t recommend staying here

A lovely stay in the Cotswolds

Verified Up Front Reviews
My family of five - two adults and three kids - had a wonderful stay in Queens Cottage. After a minor plumbing issue when we first arrived - which was responded to immediately - our stay was smooth and comfortable. The cottage has all the amenities we could ask for, including sufficient kitchen implements to cook full meals. The included admission to Sudeley Castle was a great boon. My kids were especially crazy about the amazing new adventure playground on the grounds of the castle. I wouldn't hesitate to return!

Detail needs checking

Verified Up Front Reviews
This is a beautiful, comfortable, well equipped cottage, however it was let down by the detail; the plug didn't fit so I was unable to bath and I couldn't turn on some radiators. We missed having a selection of guidebooks etc of local places of interest (which we are used to having in holiday cottages), it would be particularly good to have one for Sudeley Castle as obviously that was the main reason for our visit! The door lock broke on our first evening out, locking us out, but the man from security came immediately when phoned and was quick and efficient at solving the situation.

A winter wonderland.

We had a wonderful weekend in Winchcombe staying at Queens, a lovely property at Sudeley Castle. The property was warm and cosy and furnished to a very high standard. The addition of the Christmas tree in the property and the snow which arrived while we were there made our visit very magical. We hope to visit again soon.

what a gem

Verified Up Front Reviews
I booked this cottage for a girlie weekend with my two adult daughters. When we arrived late at night, we saw flashing lights inside.and my heart sank as I thought it was some kind of fire alarm. So we are more than pleasantly surprised when in fact,it was a Christmas tree!. It was lovely warm, the sofas extremely comfortable, the kitchen fittings of very high standard, the beds also really comfortable, basically everything very new and of good quality. And only 15-20ins pleasant drive from Cheltenham. We only regretted that we couldn't stay longer!. Just one thing we found actually very annoying as it spoils the last day.,checkout time is 10 am which, when you are only there for the weekend, takes the relaxation away. In most hotels you don't have to check out till 12, or you can pay a nominal fee to delay it further. Considering that you can only get into the cottage at 4lm,it would be much better if checkout time was at least 11 am s you can have a nice breakfast before you leave, particularly as you are also supposed to empty all bins etc....

Great Accommodation Any Time of Year

Verified Up Front Reviews
My wife and I have stayed in the Queens Cottage before and it was great. Now it has been refurbished inside to an even better standard. There are no negatives about Sudeley Castle accomodations in general, and we have previously stayed in other apartments at this location. Whilst here this time round there were some workers making further improvements to other apartments (which were already pretty good before!), and the gents doing their work were polite, friendly and non-intrusive. We had a great stay and totally recommend the accomodations. The TV was big, the two bathrooms were clean and in good, modern order, and the bed was comfy. The kitchen is a good size with all mod cons, and the heating is easy to use. As stated on previous reviews, we will definitely be back when possible.
