Overview

Reaching the end of your journey, you will find yourself awestruck by the surroundings of Quarry Lodge. To each side of the track there are miles of trees and hilltops beyond. Nestled on the edge of the treeline near a lake, you first notice the silence of your setting before you enter your holiday home.

Inside, the meandering ground floor creates separated living spaces with plenty of space for your whole group in each. From the entrance the house flows into the kitchen and dining area, perfectly positioned for enjoying the view. The spacious living room branches off from the central hallway and has high ceilings, a wood burner, and a large comfortable corner sofa which you can’t resist sinking into and taking a deep breath as you relax. All you can see from here is trees making it feel as though you are in another world. There are three bedrooms including one on the ground floor which can be a king-size double or a twin room, which helps to provide sleeping arrangements to suit everybody. Upstairs you really feel as though you are in a treehouse in the bedrooms and the modern family bathroom has a bathtub and rainfall shower.

Stepping out to the fully enclosed garden you’ll enjoy the freshness of the country air. To the side of the parking area is a separate utility with WC, keeping the noise of the washing machine from disturbing your evenings. Alongside the lawn and gravelled area is a secluded patio where you’ll find the hot tub* where you can relax in the bubbles looking out to the lake feeling invisible to the rest of the world. You will also find a games room with a small pool table and table tennis, an amazing addition to your holiday here. Walks lead from the door and there are many outdoor activities on offer in the Forest of Dean and Symonds Yat nearby.

Ground Floor

Kitchen/Dining Room:
The spacious kitchen/diner includes an entrance hall to the side where you first step into Quarry Lodge. This light and airy space with fresh white walls and wooden floors has patio doors out to the garden overlooking the trees and lake beyond. With a dining table seating six and a well-equipped kitchen which has the best views to enjoy while you do the washing up, this is a wonderful space for preparing meals after a country walk.

Living Room:
Passing a side entrance and down one step, the living room is at the back of the house. Decorated in natural tones it brings the colours of the outdoors in. A wood burner in a painted grey surround is the main feature of this room creating a warming atmosphere for evenings in. You can really get away from it all and there is space for everybody to stretch out on the corner sofa and armchairs.

Bedroom One:
This ground-floor super king-size double enjoys the peace at the end of the cottage. It can be split to be two single beds on request. Furnished with a wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside tables you have enough space to pack your belongings away and feel at home. First Floor

From the eye-catching turquoise hallway, stairs take you up to the family bathroom and two more bedrooms.

Bedroom Two:
The first king-size double to the right of the stairs is the smallest of the rooms but this doesn’t take away from its luxurious qualities. The soft bedding will ease you to sleep, and there is a wardrobe and bedside tables for storage.

Family Bathroom:
The large family bathroom has a modern touch with geometric floor tiles and white walls. A rainfall shower and separate bath, WC and sink ensure you have everything you need.

External Games Room:
An outhouse by the parking area acts as a games room and utility. There is a small pool table and table tennis so there's plenty to keep you entertained even on rainy days. There is also a washing machine, tumble dryer and WC here.

A great place to get away from everything for a few days! Easy to check in and exactly as pictured if not better. The property is remote and in a beautiful setting. Everything we needed was available with a well stocked kitchen. Somewhere we would be happy to come back to.

Kirstie

A fantastic place to stay, the kids enjoyed the hot tub, and we enjoyed some beautiful walks in the woods with the dogs. In the morning we would wake up deer frolicking across the land at the back! Great host, great communication, would love to come back and stay.

Phil

Beautiful cottage. Lovely and quiet. Loved sitting in the hot tub watching the stars at night.

Sam

Really lovely house in a very peaceful, scenic surroundings.

Jo

Nice cottage and grounds. Lovely garden safe for kids and dogs. Located on the estate tucked away from the world, but easy access to it. Great walks on the estate directly from the cottage, including through to Taurus Crafts Centre with shops, cafe and tap room.

Peter

What an absolutely stunning retreat. It was so peaceful. We all enjoyed the games room and love that the lounge is totally separate to the rest of the living space for anyone wanting a quiet time. The walks are so serene. We were lucky enough to have some deer cross our paths. Would highly recommend.

Michelle

Fantastic location, in fact even better than the photos show. Helpful and responsive to all questions. Would definitely return.

Mitch

Do not miss out on the beauty of this stay!

Daniel

Nice cottage and grounds. Lovely garden safe for kids and dogs. Located on the estate tucked away from the world, but easy access to it. Great walks on the estate directly from the cottage, including through to Tarus crafts Centre with shops, cafe, taps room. Only suggestion I would have to improve is the kitchen could be better provided for with equipment, new pans, cooking trays, bowls etc. A slow cooker would be a great addition for the winter months.

As last time - the best nature retreat

Verified Up Front Reviews
Second time in this cottage and it did not disappoint. We stayed longer this time and still have not managed to explore all the hidden nature treasure on our doorstep. Kids loved the area. Endless quest and hide and seek games. And when it is rainy the games room is very handy. A very relaxing and outdoorsy half term break exactly what the 5 of us needed.

Absolutely peaceful

Verified Up Front Reviews
Stayed for just 3 nights, wow, so peaceful, we had fantastic weather which helped, beautiful countryside, very quiet, the pub down the road with beautiful back garden( name escapes me) food was on point, very good. The house was just amazing, just what we needed and absolutely would return for longer stay. Only criticism if any, internet intermittent so telly was not great, we got round this by watching downloaded films on laptop plugged into telly so all good, could have done with radio or Bluetooth speaker will remember to take with us next time, games room would be great fur kids( we didn’t have any) anyways, we had the most amazing time, really was wow!

Excellent

Verified Up Front Reviews
When looking for a place to stay as a family we have very specific requirements and Quarry Lodge ticked every one. It was perfect for us. Clean, comfortable, in the heart of the countryside with all the facilities we need. Nice extra touches like a games cupboard, and the games room. Games room could do with a heater and the house could benefit from an extra bathroom but we were so delighted that we’ve already rebooked for 2026.

To say that some guests were rebooking for 2025 whilst travelling home to Cambridgeshire says it all.

Perfect

The property was amazing, the location was perfect for our little getaway. Wish we booked longer. The house was well equipped and comfortable. And soooo quiet. We enjoyed our morning coffee's sat in the garden listening to the birds and then a few cocktails in the evening in the hot tub. 100% will now be a yearly thing for us this place.

So beautiful, Tracey was fantastic, would be back every weekend if we could!

Verified Up Front Reviews
Absolutely beautiful location, beyond words how beautiful! The house itself was clean and tidy and had everything we needed to have a fantastic stay. Tracey went above and beyond and left some chocolates and Prosecco to help our guests celebrate their engagement which was so so appreciated, and even some treats and a blanket for our dog, and we were were able to check in early - thank you so much Tracey, all these little touches are the things that make such a difference and we had a really fantastic weekend and will definitely be back and will be recommending Bolthole Retreats to everyone!

nice countryside venue

Verified Up Front Reviews
Really nice countryside retreat, away from everything & everyone ! it's a well appointed cottage if a bit small, both in terms of one inside bathroom between six and also the heights of some of the doors (e.g. patio doors out to the garden are less than 6 ft height). We had a lovely time sitting outdoors - dog in enclosed garden - listening to the buzzards and even saw deer come up to the garden fence. Can walk down to the deer park & through but not get through to Taurus Crafts. You have to walk at least a mile up & down hill to get to a pub or shop - but can highly recommend the craft ale place at Taurus, excellent when it's open !

Amazing Place to Stay

Verified Up Front Reviews
We had the most amazing stay at Quarry lodge. The house is secluded, has amazing scenery all around yet is in a perfect location to explore the Forest of Dean. Beds were very comfy, kitchen was well equipped. We used the bbq which was great. Our children loved the garden space and games room. Flip flops are needed to walk from the house to the hot tub as the patio is gravel. The fire doors all over the house were a bit of a hazard for our children as they couldn’t get in or out of rooms independently and we were worried about them trapping fingers in doors. Fortunately no accidents happened but just to let others know who are travelling with young children. We would love to return to this property.

Niki Wright

Great place to stay.

Verified Up Front Reviews
Really enjoyed our stay. Everything was good. Just one suggestion for improvement - there is a safe, easy walk possible trough the estate from the cottage to Tarus Crafts which has some nice shops, cafe & and a micro pub. Unfortunately there's a combination locked gate which prevents access. Could guests have the combination to allow access? Walking along the road is much longer and not safe with kids or dogs

Beautiful property in a stunning location

Such a beautiful property, in such an idealic location. Secluded and peaceful yet any necessities and plenty of places to explore within a close driving distance. We had a lovely time making the most of the sunshine by relaxing in the well maintained garden, property had everything you could need and was furnished to a high standard. Symonds Yat which is only a 30 minute drive away is well worth a visit with breathtaking views. Will definitely look to revisit!

Quarry lodge

Verified Up Front Reviews
We booked Quarry lodge to spend time with the family for my husband’s 50th. The communication beforehand was spot on.right from the start. The welcome pack was excellent with lots of hints on where to go etc. It was easy to find using the three word app and the postcode. The location is amazing. The drive up to the house is beautiful and it backs on to the local wooded walk. First impressions were great- it was the small things such as tea, sugar, milk and filter coffee with biscuits. The house was extremely clean and easy to use the lockbox. The house is exactly as it looks in the photos. It’s a quiet location with an enclosed garden. Our small dog was perfectly safe in it. Sitting in it we saw a deer and a bird of prey. The hot tub was hot when we got there and the barn has a half size pool table and table tennis table which the men spent a long time in! We broke a glass one night and emailed as requested getting a quick response from the caretaker. All in all it was value for money, beautiful house and location and had plenty to keep us all busy - 5 adults and a baby. Even when we left the cleaner waited a respectable distance up the hill until we had left so we didn’t feel rushed. I would use Bolthole retreats again and absolutely stay in Quarry lodge again if I wanted a quiet, peaceful weekend with family.

60th birthday family weekend away

Verified Up Front Reviews
A wonderful house in a fantastic secluded location! Everything very clean with a well equipped kitchen and hot tub was a great addition! Only slight negative point is that the living room with the fire had an unpleasant odour to it so needed to be well aired prior to use each time or have the fire lit to mask the smell. Otherwise everything else was excellent lovely big rooms and very comfortable

Chloe McKane

A great stay at Quarry Lodge

Verified Up Front Reviews
Lovely location for the property, really quiet and relatively remote which is what we wanted. Great dog walks right on the door step (literally). Property was in great condition, hot tub was nice and the games room was a great addition. Housekeeper was easy to contact with a couple of questions. A fantastic stay and we would return.

Weekend Getaway

Verified Up Front Reviews
Booked this property for a surprise 60th birthday weekend for my dad. The property was immaculately clean and everything provided that we needed. Great location and a short walk to the deer park, only a 6 minute dive from the main road if needing to pop to a supermarket or nearby pub. We did however have some difficulty in finding the property- the postcode provided took us to a lodge further up the road (alo part of Lydney Estates), and so did the app what.three.words. I think this could be reviewed to help customers to find the property easily in the future.

Anna Duggan

Fantastic rural setting

Verified Up Front Reviews
Super house, dog friendly enclosed garden, great view from the hot tub (although only really comfortable for 2 or 3 people) with no immediate neighbours. Only a few light touches would enhance what is already a great property (i.e. fairy lights by hot tub, more subtle bedroom lighting and some sort of audio or entertainment media in the kitchen/dining room).

Beautiful setting, lovely stay

Verified Up Front Reviews
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this place, it was peaceful, quiet, private and scenic. The house itself was lovely and spacious and had all the amenities needed. Customer service was good, I was very impressed, when entered, everything was ready and it was very clean. The only thing for me was my bed was a little firm (but that’s just personal preference). We would definitely love to come back. Thank you!

An absolute gem

Had the best time at Quarry Lodge with the family. It was situated in a beautiful position with lovely views, an abundance of nature on our doorstep and peace and quiet. The lodge was equipped with everything you could think of and didn't disappoint on the luxury front. The beds were very comfy too. We loved the games room and the walks from the doorstep. We all intend to come back to Quarry Lodge every year!

We had a wonderful stay at Quarry Lodge. We made the most of the hot-tub and log burner and enjoyed walking through the Estate grounds taking in all the wildlife and surroundings! We also walked to the George Inn for dinner one evening - food was fantastic! Will definitely be back again - maybe with the children! 🙂

Tranquil stay!

Verified Up Front Reviews
The lodge is equipped with everything you might need, the Information Booklet was the best we have seen and very helpful. Thoughtful gestures provided, tea, coffee, milk, orange juice, charcoal for bbq, hand wash and even fresh flowers. Property is secluded and very tranquil, beautiful forest walks on the doorstep, yet has everything you need like shops and takeaways within a few miles radius’s. Hot tub was an added bonus and fully enclosed garden was peace of mind for the dogs. We will be back that’s for sure.
