Owls Nest is a fabulous barn conversion on a small working dairy farm in the beautiful Painswick Valley. Every which way you look there are green fields filled with happy cows grazing on the lush grass. Forming part of the family farm, this lovely barn offers a comfortable countryside escape, with myriad Cotswold and Forest of Dean attractions nearby. With four spacious bedrooms, including two on the ground floor, four bathrooms and a beautiful open-plan kitchen, diner, and cosy living room with a log burner to ward off the chill of a winter evening, Owls Nest is ideal for family gatherings and groups of friends looking to escape to the country. The farm is also home to four coarse fishing lakes, so keen anglers should pack their fishing rods too.

Overview

As you wend your way along the hedgerow-lined lanes leading to the quiet hamlet of Harescombe and Owls Nest, you will feel as though you are miles from anywhere. There are, however, a multitude of attractions within easy reach, and so although the setting is blissfully bucolic, everything you need is close at hand. The farmyard is a rural reminder of your location on this family farm, but within the pale Cotswold stone walls of the barn, you’ll find a beautifully finished, warm, and welcoming place to stay.

The rustic, covered courtyard provides a sheltered space for parking as well as an all-weather area to enjoy. The simple lines of the barn belies the attention to detail and as you step inside, you’ll find a beautiful kitchen, dining area and a comfortable living room with a cosy log burner in one corner. There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms on the ground floor, offering flexible sleeping arrangements. Upstairs are two further bedrooms and bathrooms. The style and décor are light and contemporary, offering a delightful, modern feel, in this most rural of locations.

Outside space comes in the form of the clever use of the covered courtyard. There’s outside seating, a ping pong table and festoon lighting were you can relax with a drink after a day of exploring listening to the birds singing and the cows gently grazing across the lane. Keen fishermen and women will enjoy the easy access to the Harescombe Fisheries, which form part of the farm and sit at the top of the valley. There is covered parking for 4 cars.

Ground Floor

Guests enter through the covered courtyard and there are steps up from the decking to the door.

Kitchen/Diner:
Pale stone flooring and pale walls all add to the sense of light and space. The hub of this lovely barn is the gorgeous kitchen with everything practical needed for a self-catering stay including a dishwasher, fridge-freezer, and microwave. The budding Nigella’s or Jamie Oliver’s in your group can whip up wonderful meals to be enjoyed at the large farmhouse table, which seats 10 comfortably. It’s a wonderfully sociable space to gather.

Living Room:
The far end of the barn forms the living room which boasts windows on either side. Two plump sofas and a comfortable armchair provide plenty of seating, whilst in the corner is a wood-burning stove. Whilst the barn is warm and toasty, there is something very special about the glow from a real fire. A wall-mounted Smart TV means you can keep up to date with all your favourite shows.

There is a ground-floor cloakroom and a small hallway that leads to bedrooms three and four.

Bedroom Three:
This lovely bedroom boasts high vaulted ceilings, and lots of natural light from the window, which overlooks the lane beyond, and the Velux. An oak-framed super-king size bed is flanked by bedside tables with reading lamps and there is plenty of room to unpack with a wardrobe and a chest of drawers.

En-Suite:
Adjoining bedroom three is a spacious and well-appointed en-suite bathroom with a shower cubicle featuring both rainfall and hand-held shower head, W.C., hand basin and de-mist mirror.

Bedroom Four:
Offering flexible sleeping arrangements, this spacious family room can be configured with three single beds or as a king-size and one single. Featuring high ceilings and a window overlooking the farmyard, this is a calm space to relax after a day of exploring. The bedroom also features a wardrobe and a chest of drawers.

En-suite:
The large en-suite bathroom has a generously sized shower with a huge rainfall shower head and a hand-held shower attachment, W.C. and a de-mist mirror.

First Floor

Bedroom One:
With wonderful rural views over the cow fields to the village church and rolling hills beyond, this spacious king-size bedroom is decorated in pale shades of grey, green, and blue. An upholstered ottoman sits at the foot of the bed and there’s a half-height wardrobe with hanging space and shelves as well as a chest of drawers. Pull the soft armchair up to the window and sit for a while watching the birds flitting in and out of the hedgerow opposite.

En-suite:
The en-suite to bedroom one boasts a large walk-in shower with a rainfall showerhead, W.C., handbasin and de-mist mirror.

Bedroom Two:
The second bedroom on the first floor is a charming king-size room with views over the farmyard to the fields beyond. The large window is a lovely spot to watch the wagtails as they swoop and dive from the building opposite. There are bedside tables with reading lamps, a chest of drawers, a full-length floor mirror and a half-height wardrobe.

Bathroom:
This bathroom features a bath with a shower attachment overhead, WC, hand basin and mirror.

Very comfortable lounge with large tv screen and underfloor heated downstairs. Good size bedrooms with comfy bed and modern en-suite for each bedroom. Spacious parking for at least 4 cars. Property adjoined the farm yard, farmers Martin and David very friendly and great to talk to approachable to answer any Questions. Good place to stay for families and couples.

We had an absolutely wonderful family stay in this beautifully renovated barn! The location is perfect — right in the middle of a working farm, which makes it incredibly peaceful and relaxing, yet it’s only about 15 minutes from Stroud and Gloucester where you can find everything you need. The house itself is beautifully decorated, very well equipped, and truly has everything you could possibly need. We came with a one-year-old baby and it was perfectly suitable — everything was there. The beds were super comfortable, and the whole place felt instantly welcoming and cosy. Thank you to the owner who gave us a tour of the farm, answered all our questions straight away, and was always so kind and available. Everybody there was lovely too — always greeting us with a smile and a friendly wave. We felt welcomed and really loved every minute of our stay. We’d 100% recommend this place, and we’ll definitely be back for another family holiday!

I can’t begin to describe how wonderful this place is! Super clean and tidy. Has everything we needed. Even a wood burner which the owner kindly got us started with. So so attentive including a fabulous lemon drizzle cake made to perfection. Small details were lovely! Will defo be coming again!

The stay at Owl's Nest Barn was for me, my mum, my cousin and her mum. Two of our party have low mobility so the two downstairs bedrooms with walk in showers were perfect. The house was spotless and well furnished. Kitchen very well equipped, we found every utensil/appliance we needed for our stay, wonderful large fridge for all the food (and drink!). Beds were very comfortable and showers were lovely. We were allowed early check in and the host, was always close by was always on hand to help. The property is on a working farm, and we found all who worked there very friendly and welcoming. The location is an easy drive to Painswick and other nearby villages. We visited the local pubs recommended in the welcome guide and had great food and service in all of them. I would recommend this property for couples/family reunion and will definitely consider returning. Thanks for a great stay.

Thanks for a lovely stay! Very comfortable accommodation and had lots of fun with the table tennis. Thanks for the delicious cake!(Would benefit from slightly more kitchen utensils and a better hob and oven. We managed, but found them hard to use, particularly the induction hob.)

A wonderful stay

Just got back from a wonderful stay at Owls Nest Barn. The accommodation is lovely, lots of lovely touches- very comfy beds, great well equipped kitchen, lovely soft massive towels etc. The homemade lemon drizzle cake was a wonderful welcome! The location is amazing - we thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching the farm working busily around us. You really are staying in the farm with this accommodation, we loved watching the cows coming out of the milking shed everyday and walking down to their field. David (the host) and his family were so lovely and took time to chat to us and answer our farm questions. We all loved our tour of the farm , meeting the calves was so special. It was a great opportunity for our kids (and us!) to learn more about where our food comes from. There are plenty of lovely places to visit within a reasonable distance. We did Gloucester, Forest of Dean and more local places. We even headed to Birmingham one day for Cadbury World. I would absolutely recommend Owls Nest Barn for families, groups of couples etc. 4 great sized bedrooms and bathrooms is so handy. A lovely relaxation peaceful location- we just felt guilty for sitting around enjoying the world going by when the farmers were all so busy! Thanks so much for having us.

Beautiful stay at Owls Nest

Verified Up Front Reviews
We stayed for a week at Owl's Nest Barn. The property was exactly as pictured online and had everything we needed. We chose it due to location and the fact it had two ground floor bedrooms, which was important for my father in law who has limited mobility and he had no problems staying here. Communication from the hosts was great and easy. They were very welcoming and lovely and provided a starter pack of milk, bread and a delicious lemon drizzle. The oven and stove were a bit trickly to figure out, but we managed most nights. The outdoor space was lovely. Had lots of fun playing table tennis. The surrounding property is beautiful and we enjoyed walks up to the ponds and to the church. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back again.

The perfect family stay!

We booked Owls Nest Barn for a family Christmas gathering. Everything was fabulous! Enough of everything to cater for 8 adults, we even used the BBQ for our butterflied lamb leg. Beds really comfortable with crisp white bedding and fluffy white towels in all four bathrooms. We all enjoyed being in the countryside with easy walking (take wellies) and the walk to Painswick is a must! Thoroughly recommend for a relaxing stay!

Absolutely beautiful

Owl’s Nest Barn is a stunning property which provided us friends with a perfect place to get together. Everything was just about perfect - beautifully and comfortably furnished and decorated with everything you could possibly need to relax. Comfy beds and lovely linen, lovely bathrooms with plenty of hot water and fluffy towels. Well appointed kitchen and a super lounge to sit and watch tv or listen to music. Spotlessly clean and well maintained with friendly and welcoming hosts, we had a marvellous weekend and will surely be back! Hugely recommended!! One thing - a better sign from both sides of the entrance would make the property easier to find in the dark, but other than that, perfection for us.

We stayed at Owls Nest Barn (on brook Farm) near Gloucester and the house was absolutely wonderful. Everything looked brand new, beautiful big kitchen diner and flowing through to the spacious lounge area. 4 huge bedrooms with lovely comfy beds and bathrooms. Immaculately clean. David the host was so helpful and took time to show us around the farm. Useful outside area under cover with seating, and table tennis (and bbq but we did not use). A really wonderful place to stay.

Wonderful Place, Brilliant Location, Great for all the Family

Verified Up Front Reviews
Owls Nest Barn is a fabulous place to stay. Located in the middle of the countryside you are still only 10/15 minutes away from Stroud and Gloucester making it a perfect spot. The barn has been converted to such a high spec with lots of details thought of for a stay for 9. Amazing kitchen meant eating out wasn't always necessary which was appreciated when there are so many of us and the use of an amazing BBQ made for a lovely evening meal one night. David, Martyn and Claire made us feel unbelievably welcome as well as the rest of the farm staff and family. Having 4 bathrooms was brilliant as well as the extra downstairs cloakroom. The table tennis table got a lot of use and our evening strolls took us round the area to explore. I couldn't recommend this rental more highly and wish them all the best for their future.

This is a beautifully designed and well appointed converted farm building, well equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The rooms are spacious and light and tastefully furnished. The owners gave us a warm welcome and were easily contactable if we needed them. A delicious homemade lemon drizzle cake on arrival hit the spot. The surrounding countryside is really peaceful and it was lovely to observe the cows arriving for milking each day but many Cotswold attractions are within easy reach.

A fantastic weekend at Owls Nest Barn

Verified Up Front Reviews
We had an absolutely brilliant stay at Owls Nest Barn last weekend. David was very helpful from the moment we made contact and was really kind through the booking process. When we arrived the house was stocked with all the essentials including milk, cake and bread! A lovely touch. Everything in the house had just been kitted out with the most up to date appliances and had been done to a very high spec. David came to show us how to use the lights, electric blinds and various other things to make our stay really special. The beds were incredible, bedding lovely, showers clean and powerful. We had no trouble with running low on hot water or not being able to use anything. There wasn't a single complaint all weekend and everyone had a brilliant time. Thank you so much.
