Overview
Sitting in a secluded position between Hereford and Hay-on-Wye, Outshot Barn is a stylish and modern farm stay. Approached along a country lane you arrive on the farm to be greeted by free-roaming chickens and fields of livestock. It is a peaceful getaway where you can embrace the outdoors and enjoy time relaxing in the outdoor heated swimming pool (open Easter-October half term, weather dependant).
The highlight of the barn is the open-plan living area with its high ceilings and bi-fold doors. Open these doors to the garden to create a wonderful space, serving meals al fresco and gazing out to the hills in the distance. The décor combines rustic country living and modern industrial with contemporary light fittings, wood-clad walls and traditional furniture. It is a comfortable space that makes you feel at ease as you sink into the sofa and relax in front of the woodburner. The comfortable boutique-style bedrooms provide flexibility with a super king-size and a twin which can be a double on request. With plump, fluffy bedding and an en-suite each, you have your own privacy and space.
The private outdoor heated pool is the icing on the cake at Outshot Barn. You will spend most of your time outside, splashing in the pool, soaking in the country air and taking the dogs on long, rambling walks. The surrounding Herefordshire countryside is waiting to be explored with ruined castles, black and white villages and historic towns, or head into the Brecon Beacons for an exhilarating hike.

Everything was perfect, a great place to get away and relax in nature. Just what was needed, walking the smallholding with the owner and meeting the animals was a bonus.

Wonderful stay in rural Herefordshire

As a family with two young children, the property was wonderful for us and just what we needed. The pool was a particular highlight and the kids spent every afternoon in it. The house is compact but really well appointed and clean, with a well equipped kitchen and comfortable seating. The area is quiet, with lovely walking straight from the front door and Hay-on-Wye a short drive away. It's a wonderful place for a relaxing holiday.

Gorgeous barn, location and added bonus of the pool

The barn is absolutely beautiful, comfy and very easy to live in! We also made great use of the pool given the hot weather.
The location is stunning, very relaxing, lovely sunsets and an abundance of bees, butterflies etc due to the beautiful gardens. Was lovely seeing and hearing the cows, hens, sheep and ponies as you relax in the garden and barn. Sally was really helpful both before arrival and when there, and although its a working farm it still felt like you had plenty of privacy and quiet, chilled time!
Would highly recommend this beautiful accommodation.

The surrounding farm is great, we enjoyed seeing all of the animals in the various fields each day. The owner was really friendly and helpful throughout our stay and we loved her friendly farm dogs! The location was very good with easy access to explore the local area and we would definitely return again.

A remarkable bolthole ...

What can I say , this barn conversion has been carried out to an incredible standard ... Surrounded by beautiful countryside , Ed and Sally couldn`t be more friendly and welcoming . Outshot Barn is minutes away from the lovely village of Dorstone , with it`s historic pub , The Pandy Inn ( highly recommended ) , as well as various historical sites of interest . The main house is home to the most considerate cockerel in the UK ( doesn`t get up til gone 8 ) as well as cats ( expect Jack the ginger tom to pay a visit ) , as well as Buster and Gigi ( the family dogs ) who are incredibly friendly and not shy of paying a visit too , which we loved . All in all I cannot recommend Outshot Barn highly enough , and we will definitely return ...

Perfect break

Everything about the stay was great. Sally the owner was friendly and took us to see a newborn calf when we arrived which was lovely, followed the next morning by some newborn ducklings! The two darn dogs are brilliant and loved popping by the say hello. Pool was fantastic

Detached barn with Private pool

We wanted cosy accommodation dog friendly with a private pool. It ticked all the boxes for us with two 10 year old girls and our little sausages dogs.
Really thoughtful touches and designed to beautiful standard.

Very pleasant.

We had a lovely stay, even though the weather was awful.
The owners were very nice and welcoming and very helpful.

Truly dog friendly accommodation

We have stayed in many dog friendly places, which arent always as dog friendly as advertised. This was a truly dog friendly experience. The accommodation is cosy, comfortable and well equipped. In true British summertime fashion we experienced the fabulous pool one day and a log fire the next! The hosts were very friendly and we loved the visits from their dogs. Would recommend the Pandi Inn for drinks and dinner, we had a great holiday.

Serene, picturesque and chic

Outshot Barn is tasteful, spacious accommodation in a beautiful and quiet area. It is very relaxing to watch the unobtrusive farm life going on. Sally, the owner made us feel welcome and invited us to come along to meet the horses if we wanted to. You can walk or go for a run in the quiet lanes - only occasionally meeting friendly people.
Inside the barn, the open-plan kitchen and lounge area is very comfortable - a huge stack door is great to open on a nice day and when it gets chilly, it still offers a view of the beautiful surroundings. The kitchen is well-equipped and tastefully decorated.
The rooms are quite spacious and the fact that both rooms have en-suite bathrooms is very convenient. The pool was amazing and at 28 degrees, comfortable to use even on cooler days.
Sally was really helpful with advice and suggestions about routes and activities in the area. Her warmth and kindness complemented the really serene atmosphere on the farm.

A relaxing stay

We had a lovely stay at Outshot Barn. A beautifully furnished and equipped barn set in a peaceful location. Hosts Sally and Ed and family were very friendly and helpful and on hand if we had any queries. We really enjoyed meeting the horses and pigs and seeing the chickens and turkeys. Buster the dog was a firm favourite by the end of our stay! Nice to be able to have a dip in the pool on the warm days.
Lovely meal at the local Pandy Inn and a short drive away the local store and Hay-on-Wye. Plenty of local shops and selection of nice pubs and restaurants.

Lovely place to stay

We had a lovely time, staying at Outshot Barn. Making sure we had enough towels to making the second room, a king bed too, it was an excellent base for visiting Hay-on-Wye and if youre in the mood, for a Sunday Roast, the Pandy Inn just down the road is fantastic. The swimming pool is a touch cold which is to be expected but soon warms up once youre in.

Heaven on earth

We stayed at Outshot barn for a long weekend with two small children. We craved an escape from the city and a trip to the countryside, and we couldn't have been more thrilled to have discovered Outshot barn. It's incredibly comfortable and extremely well decorated and kitted out. It's located close enough to Hay-on-Wye and the Black Mountains for adventures, but is tucked away in its own quiet valley with an amazing outlook and a soundtrack of only birdsong and bleating sheep. The hosts are incredibly helpful and friendly, and went above and beyond to make sure our animal-mad children (and us) had the most amazing time, including visits to the pigs and piglets. I wish we were still there.

Fantastic!

We have just come back from a wonderful 3 days away at Outshot Barn and from the minute we arrived we knew we would be looking to rebook. The accommodation is gorgeous and comfortable, the rustic decor is fabulous and Sally and Ed are great hosts! The kids loved going out to feed the farm animals with Ed and were rewarded with fresh free range eggs which were amazing. The weather wasnt great but it didnt stop us from using the pool and welcoming the much needed downtime. I enjoyed looking at the views and listening to the rain next to the wood burning stove with my book and we were lucky enough to have a clear night to see a sky full of stars one night without the light pollution of the cities. The facilities were great and we largely self-catered with cosy nights in but we used the barn as a base for exploring the Brecon Beacons, the Forest of Dean and Hereford. We cant wait to rebook to go back next year and explore more!

On a family trip, we had a great time staying at the barn. It was cosy, warm and so lovely being able to see the animals on the farm.
