Great location, some nice features but terrible mattresses

Bathrooms are nicely updated and comfortable. Location for Cotswold or Winchcombe way walks is perfect. There are nice places to eat in town which is a short easy walk. I would not stay here again without substantially better beds - it was like sleeping on a pullout sofa.

Just great, ideal for a short break.

Lovely apartment in a great location

We stayed for an event at Sudely Castle. The apartment is very well located both for the castle and for Winchcombe - just a short walk from both. Its well equipped, with toiletries, condiments, tea, coffee etc - always nice to have a decent coffee machine! The beds and sofas are very comfortable. My only complaint is that the en-suite shower temperature ranges from too hot to scalding - we all had to use the main bathroom shower instead (which is very good), and the taps in the en-suite have been installed the wrong way round.
Weve already booked it for the same event next year!

Fabulous short break

Stayed with family (4 adults) for 3 nights over the weekend and it was perfect.the accommodation and its position were brilliant. Also the added bonus of access to Sudeley Castle was a massive bonus. Loved the little extra touch of a welcome tray. Beds so comfortable too. A real home from home. Will definitely be returning. Also would recommend The Lion Inn, had a meal there Saturday and it was superb.

Most enjoyable recent stay in apartment, Oliver Cromwell at Sudeley Castle, our second stay here.
Access easy, (although be prepared for lots of steps), very well appointed, clean and very comfortable. The milk and tea and biscuits was a nice welcome.
The complimentary access to Sudeley Castle was a welcome bonus. A lovely area to explore and Winchcombe a quaint small Cotswold town with all shops one needs and several eating places.
Would recommend a stay in Oliver Cromwell but don't forget your clothes hangers as only one low hanging rail for clothes with no clothes hangers provided.

Great stay

Lovely stay, everything we needed and within walking distance of Winchcombe for food in the evening. We had a great time but if I am being nit picky, the squeaky floor boards in the bedroom need sorting. The skylight windows need a good clean and I didn't enjoy being woken by the heating coming on at 5 am! I admit we probably shouldn't have checked the instructions.

Very enjoyable short break in the Cotswolds self catering through Bolthole Retreats. Booking easy online, very comprehensive information given, not only about the property but about things to do, places to visit, restaurants etc in the area plus a very informative history of Sudeley Castle where we were staying.

Great stay

Very good. The flat is excellent and when we had a problem with the heating it was repaired immediately. Towels, kitchen equipment etc very good, beds comfortable. Lots of steps so not great for anyone with mobility problems, but other flats or houses on the site would be just as nice. Lots of off street parking. The staff who helped with the booking are extremely nice and professional.

Stay at Oliver Cromwell

We had a lovely stay and slept very well. Some items in the kitchen (plates and glasses) had been left greasy and we thought fire safety could be improved (the nature of the windows, with such narrow panes, was a little unnerving!) The information about the local area and nearby walks was fantastic and the location was excellent, close to the centre of the village but very peaceful. We would stay with Bolthole Retreats again.

We stayed as a small adult family of three and couldn't have loved the Oliver Cromwell apartment more. It felt homely and inviting and in such beautiful surroundings. Loved the Christmas tree with lights in our living room - it was a beautifully festive touch! Parking is easy, and it is a very short and easy stroll into the centre of Winchcombe. The amenities in our apartment were fantastic, which made self-catering for some meals, so easy. We enjoyed drinks and meals at both the White Hart, and The Corner Cupboard, but have to say the hospitality and quality of food served at the Corner Cupboard was an absolute winner! Being January, we couldn't enjoy the complimentary access to Sudeley Castle, but we did manage to walk the park trails surrounding it, which were absolutely beautiful. Thank you for a memorable stay!

Great location!

We loved the convenience of this location for exploring the castle and area. The cottage was very comfortable and cozy. It was also very clean except for the many large dead black flies all over the bathrooms which led us to wonder if chemicals had been sprayed shortly before our arrival. We also tried to no avail to get in touch via telephone and email with customer service the day before we departed to request late checkout or bag storage while we toured but never got a response. Overall a wonderful visit but those two things prevent me from giving 5 stars all around.

Oliver Cromwell Apartment

Cleaning was not particularly good with lots and lots of dead flies all over the property. The access corridor and staircase shared with adjoining apartment cleanliness was poor, the carpet clearly not having been cleaned prior to arrival. More significantly, the corridor and staircase which is the sole means of escape from the property and the adjacent apartment had no lighting whatsoever which constitutes a major safety failure and contravenes Part B of the Building Regulations. Some fittings, for example, the free standing lamp in the lounge requires fixing/replacement. Overall, the property was somewhat tired and in need of some refresh work.
Guest
Unclean and fly infested

Encountered hundreds of dead cluster flies on our arrival, bathroom was unclean with hair and debris clogging up the plug holes. In need of some basic maintenance to bring this up to the supposed 4 star standard. Very disappointing for the price.

Great location

The standard of the accommodation was great but we were overrun with flies. They seemed to lodge in the bathrooms and, fortunately, were close to death. We think it is something to do with the window coverings.
One of the dining chairs had a very wobbly leg probably due to the table being close to the fridge so a squeeze past is needed. Perhaps turn the table round slightly?
I rang to request an additional key and was told someone would get back to me but never did.
Perhaps a container for recycling material could be provided.
In the bedroom with the double bed the window leaked onto the carpet but there had been a torrential shower and this may not happen with a lighter shower.
We did enjoy our stay and I hope these comments are regarded as constructive.

Very comfortable and quiet in a Great location

Well equipped cottage to recuperate after long walks. 2 good showers. Comfortable, warm. 5 minute walk from town.

Great Stay!!

We had a wonderful stay at the Oliver Cromwell cottage near Sudeley Castle. The old paper mill is tastefully decorated and the beds were very comfortable. Bathrooms, kitchen, living area, dinnerware, cutlery, cooking utensils.... everything was stunning. The extra special bonus was entry to Sudeley Castle which is awe inspiring!! We had a superb 2 night stay and would highly recommend it if you get the chance. The surrounding nature and stone cottages and terraces are postcard beauty - we couldn't get enough of Winchcombe.

Lovely clean rooms with modern facilities in a property full of character. Some nice touches - fans in the room, milk in the fridge - were the icing on the cake. Cleaning fee seems on the high side but the overall price is still a good price for the space you get.
A word of warning for first time visitors to Winchcombe - there are various pubs and restaurants in the village but all require booking for a weekend evening (in August at least...) - don't expect to be able to walk in and get food without a reservation!

Great stay

We had a wonderful time. The apartment is great and the location is perfect. Changes? The front door key is awkward and the bedside lighting too low. Apart from that all good.

Oliver Cromwell - 4 guests, very comfortable

Stayed for a wedding at Sudeley Castle. Very convenient location to the Castle and easy walk into town

Short stay in Winchcombe

I wanted somewhere to stay that was convenient for Giffords circus at Sudeley Castle. Bolthole Retreats had properties in the grounds and so I booked Oliver Cromwell. It proved to be absolutely perfect; within easy walking distance of the circus, the castle and Winchcombe. For a two night stay with friends it was excellent value for money compared with a hotel. The property had been sensitivity restored, retaining elements of the original building whilst incorporating modern facilities. The seating area and beds were really comfortable and the kitchen was fully equipped.
Entrance to Sudeley Castle and gardens was complementary which was an added bonus. Winchcombe itself is delightful with a range of shops and some excellent pubs, restaurants and cafes.
The surrounding area also has plenty of opportunities for visiting.

Great accommodation , ideal location for beautiful walks

We had a lovely time at Winchcombe staying in the Oliver Cromwell apartment. Ideal location , 2 min walk from the high street but very peaceful and pretty. The Apt was very comfortable , warm , clean with everything you need to make use of. A few small paint areas that need a touch up perhaps , in the shower room for example but everything inside the apt was clean and tidy. Very good location for the walks and hikes, that we came for, in the Cotswold Hills - Sudeley Valley Walk particularly worthwhile with views over the Castle and the Estate and all the surrounding counties, also the walk to Cleeve Common/Hill - even if we got a little muddy across the footpaths ?these walks are on the Winchcombe.com website and we left print outs in the info folder for other guests use! There are plenty of places/pubs to eat at in the town , good food at the Corner Cupboard and the White Hart. It's great that as a guest in the properties you are able to visit the Sudeley Castle free of charge, this place is lovely, we went on the first day they opened for the season which was Lady Ashcombe's birthday and had cupcakes !! So interesting and learned so much of our English history and the Sudeley past, the gardens and the little chapel were lovely. Worth having the guide's talk before going inside too which brings it all to life. The only thing to mention was just on arrival and the Outer entrance hall to the accommodation was not particularly clean , the carpets needed hoovering and the stairs, also the lights in the hall way did not work so a little tricky trying to see the keyhole to the Oliver Cromwell at night time... First impressions count ! So may be worth noting that the carpets did need a hoover in the access hallway . The apt was absolutely clean though ? We loved our break here and would definitely book a cottage / apt again.

A perfect stay

A very comfortable, relaxing and enjoyable stay. I would definitely recommend a stay at this convenient location close to the High Street and its amenities as well as Sudeley Castle.

Excellent property.will recommend any time.

Very pleasant stay overall.
No issues.good clean property, well stocked kitchen and ample of parking space.

Lovely break

The Oliver Cromwell suite was perfect for my friend and I - especially because it had two loos! Easy walk to the shops and wonderful restaurants and all of Winchcombe and walking path to the castle. It was very well furnished with everything needed for the stay. Lovely welcome back was really appreciated as were the bath products, huge fluffy towels and immaculate linens. I would say that some of the carpeting and other areas are in need of a bit of refreshment and would suggest a proper scrubber for washing up - but otherwise I wish I could have stayed longer.

The only thing we would like to se changed next time is the silicone in the shower. We think it just has to be renewed. Also the shower is leaking. Apart from that: a wonderful experience. The place was nicely warm when we arrived. We felt absolutely welcome. We certainly recommend this place to our friends.

Great Stay

Comfortable for family of 4 and the flat was well appointed. Enjoyed our stay and access to the castle was a great bonus. Would recommend.

Great location

The best thing about the property is the location. Short walk to Winchcombe and the castle. No outside space. Well equipped and clean. Beds not very comfy! There is building work at the moment which started 8am Monday. Apart from that a lovely quiet spot.
Guest
Comfortable with ups and downs.

Comfortable and clean but the stairs leading to the door in addition to peculiar stairs inside the unit mean I will choose a different unit next time.
Suzie Baker
Do not stay in periods of higher heat.

The two bedrooms here are on the third floor and have very little ventilation. Two of our three nights here the bedrooms were too hot to sleep until the early mornings. This made our sightseeing plans much more difficult to complete. I would cancel any plans to stay here if temps rise above 80F.

A lovely weekend wedding break

The Oliver Cromwell apartment was a lovely place to stay for a weekend wedding at Sudeley Castle. The cottage was well equipped with everything we needed for our stay, and was very comfortable. The beds were comfy and the cottage was really clean. We would recommend for a short break or for guests attending a wedding. We also enjoyed having free entry to the castle and grounds included in our stay.

Excellent all round

Stayed 2 nights, charming location, great parking, easy access to town and castle.
Very comfortable stay. Would recommend and would love to return here.
Lounge would benefit from additional lamp please.
Kim Davies
Great location and nice apartment for a few days

We were only there for two nights, as I suspect many will be. The apartment is well equipped but I imagine, like us, most will eat out and the kitchen, although well equipped will be unused. The only really odd thing was the fridge didnt have a place to stand a milk carton. The door, where youd normally stand it was designed to prevent this so we had to remove a shelf and stand it in the veg box, really odd and I thought bizarre.
Beds and bathrooms were good and lots of parking.
The location is great for a short walk to the village and to visit the castle which is free for guests. And well worth a look; we went twice!
All in all a very nice weekend with lots of scope for things to do and a nice place to stay.
Charles Love
Lovely comfortable apartment

We were very pleased with the apartment and enjoyed our stay very much. We certainly would return especially because of its position, close proximity to the town and to the castle. We also enjoyed visiting the castle.
Angela Hartley
Tired but functional and spacious

For a great price, you can stay very close to the heart of Winchcombe and Sudeley Castle. The property could do with some love and you should prepare yourself for a hideous, old brown carpet but you can't beat it for price!
Jessica Reilly
Great place, we'll return!

The apartment is spacious and has a lot of natural light. It is well presented and very clean. The kitchen has everything you need to cook and serve family meals. Location is excellent for both local walks and short trips to Cotswolds highlights. Booking was very simple and communication with the local staff was excellent. We're looking forward to our next stay there!

Lovely short break at Sudeley Castle

Lovely short break in an apartment at Sudeley Castle. Exceptionally clean and equipped with everything you need. Comfortable beds and super soft towels. Apartment was on a beautiful complex a couple of minutes walk from the restaurants and pubs. Was a birthday treat so we wanted something special but expensive so definitely not something we could afford every often!
Alison Mully
Happy

All really good. Location spot on, Winchcombe high street less than five minutes walk, couldn't have asked for better. Great value for a perfect accommodation. Thanks
Mark Willmore
Exceptionally Clean

Very good location as it is just a short walk to the local shops and has some lovely walks nearby too. The apartment was comfortable and very clean which is a nice surprise when so many places these days seem to lack care in the cleaning department. I always take cleaning products with me but didn't require them on this occasion. Everything we needed was also provided including tin foil, cling film, dishwasher tablets, coffee and hot chocolate pods, milk, jam, loo rolls and lots of hand wash and sanitisers. Some of the furniture was a bit tired but I think they are going for an antique look. The dining chairs probably need replacing soon. The rest though was absolutely fine and we enjoyed our stay. Extremely white towels and lots of them.

Winchcombe break

Not the first time we have stayed in the properties and won't be the last.

My stay in Oliver Cromwell

Lovely cottage in a good location... 2 mins walk into Winchcombe. Kitchen well equipped. Only slight negative was the numerous flys in the cottage entrance on arrival.
Matthew Hawke
Family time

I booked this for my son and family to ease space in our house on a special family get together.
They loved it and it was very near the rest of us in Winchcombe. The little uns loved their room and their own bathroom!
Will do this again!

First class, gorgeous spot in the Cotswolds

Couldnt fault this little gem in the Cotswolds we keep returning . Close to lovely restaurants and lovely walks close by.

Short family break

We stayed for 2 nights with 2 young boys and we loved it. Great that there are 2 bathrooms and a decent sized living space. Really appreciated the free entry to Sudeley Castle, which is a great day out for the family, even young ones. So close to the High Street as well, so we were so happy we chose Sudeley Cottages.
Natalie Tanner
Short, post lock-down stay

Clean, tidy and well equipped cottage. Milk in the fridge and biscuits were a very nice touch! Thank you!
Guest
A well situated property but needs some work!

The arrival process was very simple, and parking was ample. The cottage was picturesque but needed work doing to it. The double bed was very hard and uncomfortable and the bedding was of poor quality. Every single floorboard creaked, so being quiet with the children in bed was almost impossible. The dining chairs, whilst rustic and in keeping with the property were unusable due to two of them having collapsed seats. There was also no ventilation/fans provided for what was quite a hot week and sleeping was uncomfortable, the velux window in the main bathroom was jammed and we couldn't open it. The location was good, and the surrounding area with Sudeley Castle and good change from our norm, and the children had a good time.
Tom Sheldon
Lovely apartment

We were very impressed with our apartment and enjoyed our stay. it was particularly good to have walks from the door.

A weekend stay in the Cotswolds to visit Sudely Castle

Great location in a picturesque setting among similar cottages on the Sudeley estate. There is plenty of parking and the complex is easy to find
The booking process was straightforward and I was sent a comprehensive package detailing the cottage facilities with the castle and local area history, showing places of interest and local walks.
The cottage itself was spotless and well equipped. One thing that did let it down was that the sofa was pretty badly stained.
We had a lovely time and the free entry into the Castle was a great bonus. We would definitely stay at these cottages again.
Thank you.
Suzanne Jeffrey
Best Cotswold location

The location on the castle grounds is idyllic and lovely but the proximity to Winchcombe village is even better. We loved the town of Winchcombe and it was a great place to stay and visit the rest of the Cotswold area. Great place to park the car and just walk to town for a pint and dinner. The cottage was perfectly furnished, clean and comfortable. Perfect stay!

Beautiful place with very comfy beds. Fab hot shower. Kitchen fully equipped.
There are lots of steps both in and outside if mobility is an issue.
Highly recommended.

Oliver Cromwell cottage 3 nights stay - Oct 2019

Very neat and tidy, has all the amenities. Very comfortable and good value for money. Good location with easy access to Northern Cotswold towns and villages. Complimentary admission to Sudeley Castle was a really nice bonus.

Stay for Wedding at Sudely Castle

The cottage was beautifully laid out in a courtyard setting and with village amenities close to hand
Derek & Linda Simpson
Wonderful stay

This is a lovely place to stay, although the many steps could make it difficult for some. Everything is to a high standard, but we had some minor criticisms/suggestions -
we accidentally switched off the boiler, meaning we had no hot water until the service engineer arrived (very promptly). The switch should be labelled to warn people not to touch, as it looks like an ordinary light switch
the sink in the ensuite is far too small
there was no hairdryer
there were no kitchen scales, which would have been useful
the baths both drained very slowly. The one in the ensuite was clogged with hair and had not been cleaned properly
These are only minor criticisms; overall this cottage offers excellent accommodation
Eric Hunter
A lovely cottage....

The Oliver Cromwell cottage was a lovely getaway with a great location. I would highly recommend staying at this cottage, exploring Winchcombe and Sudeley Castle. The neighborhood cat was delightful and welcoming.

Oliver Cromwell

Beautiful, light, airy and peaceful apartment with everything you could need for a wonderful holiday. Minutes from the lovely village of Winchcombe and a short footpath walk across the field to Sudeley Castle and all the attractions it offers for children and adults alike. Highly recommend.

Oliver Cromwell

We had a fantastic stay in the apartment which was extremely comfortable and a great location for exploring the local area. We have stayed in numerous cottages over the years and the apartment had everything we wanted. For people like ourselves who are avid walkers, the entrance hall downstairs for our apartment and the one next door would benefit from a rack to store muddy boots and wet jackets which would keep the carpets a lot cleaner.

Our short visit December 2018

Our group of four adults were very impressed with our accommodation in Oliver Cromwell. Everything was perfect and were looking forward to returning.

Oliver Cromwell, Sudeley Castle Cottages, Winchcombe

A very well maintained and appointed cottage within easy walking distance of both Winchcombe and Sudeley Castle. Due to the nature of the development there is a potential lack of privacy but this did not detract from our experience. The cottage was extremely comfortable and a pleasure to stay in.
Janet Upton
Perfect location and accommodation

Sudeley Castle Cottages are in a perfect location to stay if you want to explore Sudeley Castle and Winchcombe. We were pleasantly surprised not only by the quality of the Oliver Cromwell apartment but also the high standard of facilities and cleanliness. It really did feel like home from home. Added bonus is the ability enter Sudeley Castle free as part of your stay which as ideal for our children who loved the grounds and castle. As a recommendation if you cant be bothered to cook then the White Hart Inn is great and in walking distance.
Ann Isenberg
Great place, really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere

We came to Sudely for a bit of rest and relaxation, and got it. Good location, nice facilities and everything was as mentioned.
Getting into the castle was a bonus and well worth the time to look.
Thanks, Ian

Comfortable, the bigger plus being location

Unfortunately no directions or details on how to access the property. We were most fortunate that a cleaner was still present after arrival time of 4pm otherwise we may well not of gained access.
Comfortable and clean apartment, no instructions for any of the electrical items so difficulty with some items. Advised Bolthole Retreats but like no arrival instructions they have not replied or acknowledged my observations. Oh well.

Stayed in July

Lovely stay with friends. Perfect location in great accommodation. Only comment would be that the Oliver Cromwell accommodation is not suitable for small children because of the floor height windows in the bedrooms and bathrooms. There are also lots and lots of steps.
Jo Blyth
More Stairs Than Expected

We loved the location, apartment, and town of Winchcombe but didn't know we would have to deal with two sets of stairs to enter the apartment and the two sets of stairs inside that led to the living area and bedrooms. In addition, the windows in some rooms didn't open so there was no way to adjust for the heat, and we were only given one small electric fan. There weren't enough hooks in the bathrooms or bedrooms on which to hang towels, clothes, etc.
Michael Doherty
Oliver Cromwell

This bolt hole is nicely decorated and furnished. The kitchen has all the cutlery, crockery, and pans you could wish for, plus great knives which I rarely find to be adequate in a rental house. I would have liked to have paper towel, foil and salt/pepper supplies. The bedrooms are a bit cramped, with little hanging space, while bathrooms are spacious. The beauty of the location is proximity to town, a five minute walk at most. Here we found wonderful places to eat and a great deli.

Wonderful accommodations in lovely Winchcombe, close to many locations in the Cotswolds. Sudeley Castle was fantastic.

Excellent choice for the family

Positive aspects - location, access to the castle and grounds, appearance and cleanliness of property.
Negative aspects - toilet seat was loose, cupboard door not secure and very heavy and dangerous for the under two's. Slow response to our concerns.

February in Winchcombe

The apartment was warm and cosy and extremely well equipped with everything required for 4-6 people. We were please with the location and took the opportunity for walks straight from the front door as well as some meals in the village.

Christmas in the Cotswolds

This property was excellent. We arrived to a lit Christmas tree and a warm apartment on a cold December evening. Our stay was magical in this smal village!!

Christmas cracker

Lovely cottage in excellent location. Very comfortable. Spent three nights after boxing day. Cottages each had Christmas tree . Pretty village and good location for walks and exploring nearby villages.

Friday to Sunday Morning Stay

As a family (Partner & 2 Daughters) we had booked to see the Festival Of Lights at Sudeley Castle on Saturday 23/12/2017 so thought it would be a good idea to stay over for our visit and we were not disappointed.
Everything was as we were told to expect from our confirmation and the apartment was very warm and welcoming on arrival. We got a local take away fish and chip meal from a local shop in North Street Winchcombe and settled in for the evening when we arrived around 6:30 pm on the Friday.
The facilities were just what we needed for a short break and the Saturday lunch time meal was taken in a local Pub we had also pre-booked given the time of year.
Having the stay over allowed us to visit the local shops and rest in-between our planned activities and it was very much a high light of our visit.
We would certainly do this again and select a different accommodation as there seemed many other cottages we could try which I am sure would provide for a very enjoyable short stay as we did with The Oliver Cromwell.
