We recommend the Sudeley Castle circular walk for a relaxing stroll; a 2-mile loop setting off straight from the cottage’s front door, taking you into the grounds of historic Sudeley Castle - a must-visit for any guest. The 2.5 mile walk to Belas Knap, a Neolithic chambered long barrow sat atop Cleeve Hill, is also a great walk to try from the doorstep, providing you don’t mind the incline.

Fabulous

Verified Up Front Reviews
We walked in to a warm and cosy, clean, beautifully presented cottage with everything provided that you might need for a short break. The Christmas tree was a lovely touch. Great location, quiet and just a short (slightly uphill) walk into Winchcombe. The only issue was parking. Although there is a large car park, it was full in the evenings. Perhaps marked bays would encourage more considerate parking?

Nice cottage in a great location

Verified Up Front Reviews
Stayed in Sudeley castle cottages a few times. Nice cosy cottages in a great location. The only negative comment would be that the outside patio and seating areas are not looked after and are full of weeds. A bit of a let down as the cottages are nice and clean inside.

We enjoyed our stay in this very well maintained cottage. Everything was comfortable. Easy parking, well equipped kitchen, nice big bedrooms with good sized bathrooms plus situated in the perfect location. Walks straight from the doorstep. Free admission to Sudely castle. Unfortunately no dogs allowed.

The Lord High Admiral is ok for 4 persons. It’s a nice building in a lovely little street. It’s almost perfect. I missed a toilet on the ground floor. And in my opinion the tefal frying pan should be replaced: it’s damaged. We had a nice time.

Property requires attention

Verified Up Front Reviews
Looks shabby, stained sofa. Both showers leak all over the floor. Skirting boards loose and warped. House infestated with ants. Duvets and pillows should be replaced. Many ceiling bulbs need replacing. Lots of information about the castle but nothing about the easy short walking route to the castle entrance! I'm sure this was lovely when it was newly refurbished but is now tired and shabby.

A wonderful wedding weekend

Verified Up Front Reviews
We stayed at the Lord High Admiral for three nights (arrive Thursday depart Sunday) as we were attending a wedding at Sudeley Castle. The cottage was great, close to Winchcome and its shops and bars (10 minutes walk to the Lion Inn, 5 minutes to the White Hart), and to the Castle itself, which was around 5 minutes drive up the road. It is possible to walk to and from the Castle, but we drove each time. The cottage was immaculate, the staff at Bolthole Retreats super friendly and efficient. All in all a wonderful weekend was complemented by a brilliant place to stay.

Excellent stay with minor niggles

Verified Up Front Reviews
We had a fabulous time away. Only issues were WiFi was very patchy and not able to stream on BBC iPlayer / itv x or Disney plus. Visually didn’t like having to look at hoover, high chair and cleaning stuff when sitting at dining room table. A slim cupboard under the stairs would solve this and look much neater.

We enjoyed it very much to " own" this cozy cottage for a week, we really felt at home. The equipment and cleanliness were first class, the welcome kit and the presents were very kind and highly appreciated. I want to mention either the friendliness of the staff and the good contacts with Bolthole Retreats. Thank you!! Winchcombe is a beautiful little town, the cottage is only a few steps away from the High Street, the surrounding Cotswolds landscape can be discovered on good walking ways. There are nice little shops, two supermarkets and several pubs and cafes nearby. I recommend the Cottage and Winchcombe very much.

Stay at the Lord High Admiral

Verified Up Front Reviews
The cottage is in a convenient location. Facilities were good, but we found the items we used in the kitchen i.e. glasses, cutlery etc. needed re-washing; they were not clean. There were quite a few cobwebs. The staff walking around the site were very helpful and polite. Due to lower spinal issues, I like a firm mattress and my mattress was extremely soft, may need replacing? The cottage is loacted in a courtyard, it is quiet and peaceful.

We had a brilliant stay in Lord High Admiral. We were four adults who fit comfortably in the two large bedrooms and well appointed bathrooms. Wonderful Stay in the Cotswolds

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Lord High Admiral cottage at Sudeley Castle. The cottage was clean and comfortable and conveniently located close to town so we were able to walk to pick up groceries and go out to dinner at the quaint pubs. Also a short walk through a field with sheep to get to the Castle which was amazing! I wish we could have stayed longer in this beautiful and historic area of England!

Overall a very nice place and in good condition. It had everything needed for an enjoyable stay.

Verified Up Front Reviews
We enjoyed our time in the suite, a few things we noticed. The floor in the ensuite was quite squeaky, the ensuite window could use a clean up ( paint) the wall on the stairway is scuffed up ( no doubt suitcases) and a simple local map of Winchcombe would have been helpful. None of these affected our stay however. Our interactions with the booking folks worked out okay but it seems a little impersonal when all done remotely. I guess that’s just how these things are going now. All in all a good experience and we will recommend it. Dave and Ruth.

My wife and I stayed in this cottage after our wedding at Sudeley Castle. It was absolutely delightful, with a well supplied kitchen, clean bathrooms and a really comfortable bedroom. Superb location close to Winchcombe and the castle, and the group of cottages made it suitable to have our family stay close by. Amazing stay, would absolutely recommend and stay again.

A real gem, incredibly cosy and with beautiful castle gardens next door

Verified Up Front Reviews
Turning into the street with the Castle Cottages, an admiring gasp escaped us. This place is magical and time seems to turn slower here. We were very delighted when we entered the lovingly furnished, spotlessly clean and above all incredibly cosy rooms. The beds are very comfortable and the kitchen is equipped with everything you need. Everything is of a high standard. We found some milk, biscuits, coffee and tea as a welcome gift very nice. The close proximity to the castle and the free entrance were a big plus. We would have visited the beautiful castle gardens every day if there wasn't so much else to visit nearby. Too little time! We were really blown away by the accommodation, it is a real gem.

Cotswold comfort

Verified Up Front Reviews
A very pleasant break, but cannot understand why we were charged £90 to clean a two bedroom cottage for a a stay of four nights, bearing in mind the notice to leave the cottage clean and tidy. How is this charge justified, and I would welcome a response from the owners. Also, the cleaning charge is not mentioned in the original quote. This only appears after “book now” button, after which the final invoice is displayed showing the cleaning charge. This to me, is unethical at best, and surely should be declared when quoting the rental price.

A haven in the Cotswolds, easy walking everywhere with good walks in the village and countryside. Our accommodation at Lord High Admiral in the cottages was pristine and very comfortable. No dishwasher, but that didn’t matter. Appreciated the welcome pack with milk, tea, biscuits and we were lucky to be able to check in early on the day. Highly recommended.

Time for a short break

Verified Up Front Reviews
I booked the Lord High Admiral Cottage at Sudeley Castle for 4 nights for 2 reasons to tour the Cotswolds and have short break from our driving holiday (20 days in) and did I get it right. Prefect place to stay, easy access to most of the towns and villages, witnin the Cotswolds and such a comfortable cottage. Very quite and clean and a short walk to pubs, bakeries and a Michelin Plate restaurant. Well equipped kitchen and big bedrooms and bathrooms, the decor within the cottage set the sceen for a quite peaceful stay. My only complaint and so very very minor would be the couches could be a little uncomfortable. But on the whole perfect place for a break.

No contact throughout our stay

Verified Up Front Reviews
This could be a great place to stay. Kitchen well equipped but no dishwasher. Bedrooms spacious and plenty of storage. The sink in one of the bathrooms was missing the original plug, there was a plastic replacement but it didn't fit and therefore useless. The main issue we encountered was we were unable to contact anyone from housekeeping. We had a minor issue. The phone just rang out, without any facility to leave a message. I tried the alternative numbers provided which got me through to Security and Accounts, who were unable to help. I left my phone number with the Accounts department but no one returned my call. I did not see or hear from anyone in housekeeping. I wonder what would have happened if there was a major problem? This left us with the feeling that no one cared.

Lovely few days in a great location

Verified Up Front Reviews
The cottage was lovely, although we had a problem with the faulty boiler, which couldn’t be fixed while we were there. Estate staff acted promptly when the problem was reported and luckily we had someone with us who could keep re- pressurising it so we at least had hot water. Free entry to the castle is added bonus when staying here.

Delightful and Quirky in the Cotswolds

Verified Up Front Reviews
This was a lovely two-bedroom property on the edge of Winchcombe but within very easy walking distance of everything both the village has to offer and the Sudeley Estate. The reception space is compact and worked perfectly for us as a couple but it would have been quite a squeeze for four adults. It would have been challenging to cook all the time in the small kitchen as there is limited worktop space and no cupboard space for storing groceries - all cupboards were filled with crockery and utensils so well kitted out. No such problem in the two well-sized bedrooms and generous bathrooms. There is building work going on close by which is probably the next generation of holiday rental cottages. I hope they then turn to refurbishing this cottage which is beginning to look a little tired and outdated. Would still happily recommend this wee place as an excellent base for a relaxing holiday in the Cotswolds.

A lovely place to stay

Verified Up Front Reviews
We really enjoyed staying at this property which was in an excellent location in Winchcombe and very quiet with convenient and safe parking. The house was spacious and comfortable, the only slight downside was that the two showers were only lukewarm. The kitchen was well equipped, the beds very comfortable and the house was attractively decorated and very clean. We would definitely return.

A relaxing week

Verified Up Front Reviews
Enjoyed our stay again and visiting the castle a few times. I have stayed in the same cottage many times with my sister and enjoyed it as always, but my only gripe is the poor state of the wooden table and chairs at the front of the property, it was grey and by the look of it has never been painted or cleaned and this is a shame because we couldn't sit outside. Hopefully this will be taken on board before i decide to return.

Lovely quaint location and beautiful cottage

Verified Up Front Reviews
The cottage was beautiful - very clean, large towels provided and the little extras were appreciated. Entry to Sudeley Castle included in the price is a great extra. No torches left in the cottage which we were expecting on windowsills and the shower in the main bathroom was hit and miss and not very powerful but otherwise a lovely stay.

Rachel Halliday

Looks good, but problems with various systems bring the review down considerably

Verified Up Front Reviews
This expensive property looks good and has an excellent location. But there are various problems with many of its systems: 1. the heating system does not work properly and the instructions in the manual have nothing to do with the actual heater control, which is not labelled at all. The heat either comes on quite high or is off. Try living there for a day and see for yourself. You won't like it. Tried to call the BoltHole help line, got a weird msg that made it sound like somewhere else. Called the emergency line and a man showed up (quickly -- good!) and turned on the heat, but later it went off and was unmanageable. 2. the shower for the bedrm with one large bed works only about 50% of the time. Confusingly, it delivers hot water to the tap, but about 1/2 the time it does not deliver hot water at all to the shower. Very annoying. 3. in that same bathroom there is no screen over the sink outlet, so it is easy to drop bottle caps, rings, etc. down there, and block up the system and lose the item; 4. the First Aid kit has been partially emptied. 5. that same bathroom shower is basically designed to get water on the floor, and with no grab bar and a hi tub and low floor, it will lead to a slip and fall at some point. Dangerous. 6. The other shower is designed so it is impossible to control/change the water temp without getting wet, can lead to scalding. 7. Several TV channels are unwatchable, due to pixelization. All this means the property is not worth the hi price and is not recommended for others.

overall the location was excellent, the property was good except for a few details 1. being the cottage was very clean apart from a few cobwebs and spiders. these were mostly on the curtains 2. we had a issue regarding the tv which didn't appear to have a signal. we tried to call the numbers in the book took a while for somebody to answer. a guy come out pretty quickly but it was not his job and could not fix it. he said someone would call the next day. when we came home still no tv. we called again and they said someone would be sort it. we went out and on returning we had another tv. 3. the outside furniture was not very appealing. and as the weather was very good. would have been nice to sit outside. 4. although the book was very helpful. finding the directions to the castle were not clear. and only found out by chance from a local.

The bedding is lovely and clean and fresh and fresh towels. Can't wait for another week.

Short Stay

Stayed for the weekend. Cottage was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. Could have done with a dishwasher, rather than a washing machine. Would definitely rent again.

A relaxing break

Short stay whilst moving house during lockdown.

This was a lovely safe place for us to lock down in the week between selling one home and completing the purchase of another. The stressful experience was made easier by having this lovely place to ourselves.

We have visited these cottages a few times now and the quality is superb. the rooms are perfect.

We shall endeavour to come to these cottages every year. We find the location peaceful and with opportunities to walk, visit Sudeley Castle and just enjoy the beautiful scenery.

A well-earned break

Verified Up Front Reviews
After working solidly for the last 7 months we needed somewhere to relax, regardless of what the weather was like. This suited us perfectly. Very comfortable, everything spotlessly clean and very cosy. It is in a quiet location but only 2 or 3 minutes walk to shops, pubs, restaurants etc. Free access to Sudeley castle and grounds without needing to book was great. Would thoroughly recommend it.

Family get together

Four adults stayed in High Lord Admiral for 4 nights. The property surpassed our expectations, it was very well equipped with high quality furnishings and equipment. The proximity to the town was excellent, a very short walk.

Lovely stay

Very clean and comfortable. Had a lovely time even on a very rainy weekend! Good location and will be back.

Aneesha Dhami

Excellent and thoroughly enjoyable stay at the cottage. Walking distance to everything.

Verified Up Front Reviews
Will certainly be recommending the Sudeley Castle Country Cottages to friends and family. Lord High Admiral was a very delightful and well equipped property in wonderfully peaceful surroundings and just a very short walk to the Castle itself.

Lovely cottage

Verified Up Front Reviews
Only negative on the property itself was that the hot water for the shower in the shower room was too hot to use. It would have also been good to have access to the Castle grounds itself before 11am, even if that was just the kids adventure playground. Overall though, we had a lovely stay at the cottage and comfort, cleanliness and other amenities couldn’t be faulted.

Half term break

Verified Up Front Reviews
The weather did not spoil our trip. The cottage is very well appointed, clean and nice touches of milk, jam etc on arrival. It would be nice to check in a little earlier on arrival.

Not up to its Luxury title

Verified Up Front Reviews
The pillows, duvets and sofas were smelly and need replacing or cleaning. There was very little space in the second bathroom for putting out toiletries and the shower needs a shelf or basket for putting your shampoo and shower gel in so that you don't have to keep bending down to the floor. A box of tissues would be nice. The mini pots of jam were cheap and tasteless. I expected the Wilkins mini pots that they serve in the castle café. The seating around the dining table was cramped and okay for 2, but would be a squeeze for 4 people. The upstairs is spacious and quiet at night, but as mentioned the second bathroom needs some shelving fitted. There were black marks on the sofas and up the stairs on the walls. This cottage needs refurshing to bring it up to luxury level.

Christmas 2019

Verified Up Front Reviews
As usual, we really enjoyed our stay at the Lord High Admiral for Christmas. A really nice touch was the bottle of Prosecco! However, what has happened to the dishwasher? Surely more people would appreciate a dishwasher whilst on holiday, than a washing machine! Especially at Christmas! Other than that, the usual high standard.

Great little escape away

Verified Up Front Reviews
Chose this cottage as two bathrooms is always heavenly - less arguments !! Cottage kitchen is really well equipped. Very clean and lovely christmas tree too Rooms are spacious and plenty of storage Bathrooms were spotless WiFi was good if that’s important Felt like a very luxurious break My only niggle was was the welcome pack. Felt more in keeping with a very old fashioned B and B Was expecting it to be better quality. eg local butter / small cake as well as basics. Not the horrible foil jam and coffee sachets. No hot chocolate either Felt like unnecessary cheapness and not in keeping with rest of the property. But all in all really lovely and will try and visit again

Enjoyable but with issues

Verified Up Front Reviews
A good general standard of accommodation but a few issues that impacted on our overall score. The heating struggled to cope with the cold weather (there is only one radiator in the living room that is obscured by curtains and the front door was very drafty). The stairwell walls were scuffed and some areas of carpet were heavily compacted. Neither extractor in the bathroom or shower-room worked. We were surprised that the main bedroom only had a standard double when there was adequate room for a king-size which we would normally expect of a cottage in this price range. Privacy was also an issue as the cottages within the complex all overlook each other, a particular issue as numerous workmen congregated outside our windows at 7 o'clock in the morning (not quite the dawn chorus we were hoping for!)

Great place in the Cotswolds

Verified Up Front Reviews
This is one of a set of cottages just bordering the grounds of Sudeley Castle and a short walk into Winchcombe, a characteristic Cotswold village. The cottage was maintained to a high standard and we were pleased overall with everything. I would highly recommend it!

The master bedroom bed is only a double and has bed frame that makes it impossible for a tall person to sleep. The room has plenty of room to make a true “double” by taking the two twins beds to the master and combining them into a large bed. The double, along with another twin, could provide sufficient beds in the other room. We loved getting out in the country for the fresh air and opened our room up while we went to Sudeley Castle . Unfortunately, someone next to Sudeley Castle started a large burning fire and it smoked up the place until we could return and close it back up! Our CPAP machine filters were dark and smoky just from the short evening that we were able to sleep. While this is not the owners fault, hopefully they will contact the local authorities about open burning and get this addressed as this should not really be allowed at all, but certainly not during tourist season. There is no telephone on the premises. It rained the morning that we were to leave and the road flooded. There was no way to get a taxi up to the bus station.

Brilliant

Verified Up Front Reviews
Really nice cottage. Lovely location. Having the free entry to the castle was a real bonus the castle staff and all the staff we net round about the cottage were so friendly and helpful. The only criticism was the cooker hood which my husband kept hitting his head on, it has a glass top with corners which are quite sharp. Beds really comfortable as was the seating very clean on arrival, could have done with more coffee pods or at least a means of buying more. But having the machine was a nice touch. Will happily book again.

Relaxing break in lovely cottage

Verified Up Front Reviews
Enjoyed our stay in Lord High Admiral which was cosy and comfortable. Lovely spacious bedrooms with 2 bathrooms, although you couldn’t have both bathrooms in use at same time due to water pressure issues. Mysteriously we couldn’t find the dishwasher which was listed as being there. There was a note about filling it in the cottage but all we could find was a washing machine! However we were more than happy with our stay and would return.

Great location

Verified Up Front Reviews
Nice cottage but for the money definitely should of had a dishwasher rather than a washing machine. Can’t use more than one shower at once else water pressure drops and your scalded. Would stay again providing there is a dishwasher. Slightly on the expensive side but very convenient for what we needed

A weekend away in the Cotswolds

Verified Up Front Reviews
We had a very enjoyable stay, a weekend away with our walking group. The cottage was very comfortable and well located within the village, although rather difficult to find! An issue with the lock on the front door was quickly dealt with and the staff that we met were friendly and helpful. The cottage is well equipped, our only comment was that a lamp in the sitting area would have been welcome.

Christmas at Sudeley.

Verified Up Front Reviews
Have stayed at Sudeley Castle cottages many, many times- so we obviously love staying there. Beautiful area and lots of lovely places to visit. Now that the cottages have been refurbished, they are an excellent base. It is particularly special to stay there for Christmas and we loved our visit to the Spectacle of Light at the Castle. However, we were a little disappointed that the suite was desperately in need of cleaning and that there were so many marks on the stairwell ( suitcase marks we presume). Other than that, the standard was excellent. Looking forward to our next visit.

A lovely cottage

Verified Up Front Reviews
We had a lovely stay at Sudeley Castle Cottages-a few minor issues though-part of sink was broken so every time you wiped the surface it flew across the kitchen-toilet in en suite bathroom leaked on first flush and left big puddle on the floor (I will say the site manager was quick to respond to this and replaced a part the first night meaning it didn’t happen again)- If you inadvertently turned the key too many rotations when opening it the front (&only) door to the property deadlocked, meaning it couldn’t be opened from the inside (!) Again, on telephoning the site manager he immediately knew what we meant when we said we couldn’t open it and told us how to resolve the situation straight away-it was pretty scary for a while though and clearly something that should perhaps be told to residents as it is the only emergency exit? The cottage is beautiful and very well appointed, just a shame when you pay quite a lot and have the few niggles we did.

3 Night Stay in Lord Admiral High Cottage

Verified Up Front Reviews
We are traveling through the UK on a 3 week vacation from the US. Our stay at the cottage was one of our favorite stops. It felt like home away from home. The cottage had everything you could ever need. Stopped at Tesco in Cheltenham and stocked up. We visited the castle and enjoyed afternoon tea. We also visited Bath and various locations in the Cotswolds. Dinner at Rosie’s Thai Restaurant and breakfast at the White Hart were both fabulous. Despite previous reviews and comments in the guestbook, there was no problem getting hot water in the shower and laundry is available in a common area across the courtyard from the cottage (I believe it was Chandos Hall). I would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone visiting the area.

Cotswolds at Christmas

Verified Up Front Reviews
Have stayed at Sudeley many times before for Christmas, so we are obviously fans of the properties and the area. However, as these properties are being refurbished, they are even more appealing, especially for a Christmas stay. Very impressed with the standard of accommodation, great to have an ensuite, dishwasher etc.

Yearly visit

Verified Up Front Reviews
We have been coming to the cottages for 6 years now and find them very comfortable and convinent for our stay visiting old work friends in Gloucester. We have tried several of the cottages and fin the Lord High Admiral the best, having a en-suite and a separate bathroom. We have noticed though the over the years we have been coming several changes some good and some not so good. The quality of the accommodation has improved after the rececent re-fits, the negative points being that you use to get a welcome pack. Also it would be nice if we could have a ice cube tray for the freezer and a stool/bench plus a shelf for the bathroom in the Lord High Admiral. These small changes would improve an already excellent accommodation.

A disappointment

Verified Up Front Reviews
Very disappointed as we have been before and after telling my brother how good it was took him and his wife with us and felt really disappointed. The house keeping was abysmal, the cleaners before work met under our windows for long chats quite loudly The water in one of the showers was never above cool and the toilet did not flush properly it was temporarily repaired but was told it will go again. Lots of things from the inventory where missing some were replaced but not all I did ring and write to the cottage manager but have reiceved no reply.
