Part of the converted Old Forge on the Sudeley Castle estate, Charles I is named after King Charles I who took refuge at Sudeley Castle during the English Civil War. Shrouded in history this is a charming cottage, perfectly positioned for exploring Winchcombe and beyond. With walks from the door, including easy routes to the castle, Charles I is a comfortable base to come home to. With two bedrooms and an open plan living area you have everything you need, with space to dine outside in the summer months.

During your stay, you are entitled to free admission to Sudeley Castle and Gardens during the Castle’s open season (except for separately ticketed events).

Overview

The Sudeley Castle cottages give you the opportunity to stay in a wonderfully historic location. With the castle and the delights of Winchcombe walking distance from your door you have plenty to fill your days.

One of three properties in the Old Forge, Charles I has a light and bright open plan living area. The well-equipped kitchen lets you make yourself at home, cooking dinners for your group and eating together in the dining area. There is a cosy sitting area with a smart TV with large windows overlooking the courtyard. The staircase divides the bedrooms into two areas and there is a family bathroom.

Outside, wooden decking stretches across the rear of the Old Forge providing access to each cottage. Charles I has its own private area with a table and chairs where you can spread out the maps with your morning coffee and plan the day.

Ground Floor

Living/Dining/Kitchen Area:
Stepping into the living room from the decking area, you’ll immediately be struck by the original and huge Old Forge window that is the centrepiece of the downstairs floor in Charles I, making this a very bright and welcoming apartment furnished with country cottage fabrics.

At the entrance, you will find an understairs cupboard housing a travel cot, stair gate, highchair, iron, ironing board, airer, as well as the Welcome Dog Basket (with stainless steel bowl and blanket).

A comfortable sofa, sink-in armchair with a footstool and wooden antique chair provide plenty of seating for 4 in the living area. In addition, the living area is furnished with an oak coffee table, occasional tables and a smart TV.

The fully equipped kitchen, overlooking the decking and garden, has a country-cottage feel, with fresh off-white coloured and wooden work surfaces. The kitchen has all the appliances, cookware, crockery and glassware you need for a self-catering holiday, including an oven/hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, kettle and Nespresso coffee machine and washer/dryer.

Extending from the kitchen is a spacious dining area with a round, oak dining table and chairs for 4 that overlooks the main Sudeley Cottages courtyard.

First Floor

Bedroom 1:
The master bedroom is furnished with an oak frame standard double bed, bedside tables and individual overbed lights with reading and room lighting. This dual-aspect bedroom, with windows to the front and back, has a handy dressing area with a hanging cupboard - also the perfect place to set up a little one’s travel cot.

Bedroom 2:
Furnished with an oak frame single bed, bedside table and individual overbed light with reading and room lighting, this is a cosy bedroom with views to the rear over the garden and decking area. A small hanging cupboard (for shirts and jackets), chair and vanity shelf with mirror provide lots of space for guests’ clothes and personal items.

Family Bathroom:
Adjacent to Bedroom 2 is the family bathroom, with a large walk-in shower (with a fixed overhead rain shower and detachable handheld shower head) toilet, sink with shaver unit and heated towel rail.

Outside

Enjoy the private area of the wooden decking with a table and chairs seating four watching the birds flit between the trees. There is off road parking in the shared Sudeley Cottages car park for two cars.

We recommend the Sudeley Castle circular walk for a relaxing stroll; a 2-mile loop setting off straight from the cottage’s front door, taking you into the grounds of historic Sudeley Castle - a must-visit for any guest. The 2.5 mile walk to Belas Knap, a Neolithic chambered long barrow sat atop Cleeve Hill, is also a great walk to try from the doorstep, providing you don’t mind the incline.

Beautiful accommodations

The cottage was pristine and well appointed. We appreciated the coffee and tea provided. Only disappointment was that we were not aware that the castle had closed for the season (we missed it by one day!) and that had factored greatly in our choice of that location.

Lovely cosy little home but restrictive check out time

Verified Up Front Reviews
Positioned perfectly on walking trails and 5 mins walk into the village of Winchcombe which has pubs, restaurants, take -aways and of course the Winchcome museum. The house was well equipped with everything we needed for cooking and well furnished with an excellent shower - ideal for warming up after a long walk! We didn’t have the weather for sitting outside but the outdoor area looked great. The downside was the early checkout time. The checkout time was a very rigid 10am. We requested a later check out time but were told this was not possible, this was surprising given most of the other properties seemed empty. 10am is a lot earlier than most hotels and airbnbs but add to that the number of chores involved in checking out - the distance to the recycling/rubbish area and the parking, this meant that the last morning of our holiday was NOT a relaxed one. This would be more justifiable if the level of cleanliness had been “outstanding”, it was clean and we had no problems generally but there was room for improvement – lots of spiderwebs that a quick dust/hoover the day before would have removed, nothing to carry recycling out and a used towel hanging on the back of the door to one of the bedrooms when we arrived. A note to taller people, the beds have footboards, it’s if there’s one person in the double who can sleep diagonally otherwise it would be uncomfortable I would recommend this property to those that need to getaway early on the last day but if you like a leisurely check out there are plenty of other holiday homes in the village.

Great location

Verified Up Front Reviews
We had an enjoyable stay as the location is perfect for walking to the castle and village. The accommodation was well stocked with everything you would need for a holiday. The bedrooms are quite basic and everything feels a little tired. Also a lot of cobwebs so felt like it needed a deep clean.

Perfect little holiday home!

Verified Up Front Reviews
Beautiful cottage with very comfortable furnishings and equipped with everything you need. We particularly liked the spacious shower, bathroom goodies and fluffy white towels! Ceilings in main bedroom were a bit low for my tall husband but we managed. Tricky to drive down Castle Street when lots of cars are coming up eg around 4pm when Sudeley Castle car parks empties out! We used Silk Mill Road instead to avoid bottleneck.

Some charm, little quality

Verified Up Front Reviews
Stayed in Charles I cottage — has character, a large and light kitchen / living room, excellent location close to Winchcombe high street, but is far from luxurious. Walls and skirting boards are scuffed and stained like a budget hotel's, window panes were lined with cobwebs and the furniture is basic. Upstairs the two bedrooms are very small and the beds themselves are short. If you're taller than 6ft your feet will probably press against the wooden lip at the end. I'm 6'3" and had to lie diagonally to fit in, meaning there wasn't room for my wife who had to sleep next door. We expected better quality for nearly £200 a night.

Great Cottage

These cottages are very well placed for a trip to Winchcombe. We have used them before and find them clean with good facilities and easy parking. We had a small glitch with our TV that was handled very quickly and politely. Would highly recommend.

Lovely property in nice location

Verified Up Front Reviews
The property is within a small enclave of houses all picturesque. A nice size for a small holiday home, nicely laid out internally with decent furniture. It was well equipped and we didn't want for anything. My only comment would be that we have been to a couple of the properties and they are getting just a little tired and could do with some redecoration, but other than that fantastic. Walk to and free access to the castle is a bonus. The local town and area has all you need, 3 pubs for meals and lovely country scenery.

Excellent accommodation in a wonderful setting

Verified Up Front Reviews
Well appointed and lovely accommodation located in a beautiful area. The house is clean and comfortable. The owners have provided lots of useful items in the house such as a torch and 3 different size scissors! We really enjoyed our stay. The only suggestion I would make is to put a larger frying pan in the kitchen as cooking Bacon and eggs for 3 in the one supplied was challenging.

'Charles 1' at Sudeley castle.

Verified Up Front Reviews
'Charles 1' was a lovely place to stay with our dog. The apartment was very clean with a lovely large living, dining and kitchen area. The upstairs bedrooms were fine, clean and with plenty of bedding and the bathroom was roomy with a good shower. Need to just be aware of a couple of areas in the bedroom where you could bump your head, there was information about this, so it wasn't a problem. We liked the outside deck, with a large table for eating, high fencing at the sides, which gave some privacy, and a gate and small shared grassy area. A real bonus for us was easy access to the Sudeley Castle estate where we could walk the dog. We really enjoyed our stay at Sudeley and we hope to visit again in the future.

First time using Bolthole Retreats, will definitely book again. We had a slight hiccup when booking which was sorted out quickly by a friendly member of staff when we called to explain the problem. Our accommodation was comfortable, clean and well equipped. Good location and an easy, short walk into the centre of Winchcombe.

Superb accommodation

Verified Up Front Reviews
We booked the cottage for two nights in order to attend a wedding at the Castle. The property had everything that was required for a self catering stay. On arrival, some handy essentials such as teabags, coffee sachets, milk, biscuits and small pots of preserves were provided. The cottage was immaculately clean and chairs, sofa and beds were comfortable. The company renting the property ensured that comprehensive information was given via email prior to the arrival date and in two files placed at the property. A very professional setup.

Lovely cottage

Verified Up Front Reviews
The cottage was lovely and very close to sudeley castle which we visited twice. The steam train was a 20 minute walk away and we thoroughly enjoyed our time on the train. Lots of lovely walks from the cottage. The stairs in the cottage were very creaky which is to be expected in such an old property. The weather was a bit wet for our stay but we found plenty of things to do locally .

Lovely cottage within grounds of Sudeley Castle

Verified Up Front Reviews
Lovely small cottage for a weekend break in the Cotswolds only criticism is that the grounds in the courtyard need a good tidy up - landscaping is looking tired, overgrown and neglected. Also the footpath at the rear of the property has the loudest squeaking footpath gate that most users allow to BANG shut after the squeaking noise has stopped....not conducive to a quiet relaxing evening drink on the rear terrace of the cottage!

Recent stay at Charles I

Verified Up Front Reviews
Very good overall. Excellent kitchen and shower. Bed was very comfortable. Outside space very nice. The carpets are starting to show signs of wear. Couldn’t get the lights to work in the main bedroom to work but we managed with a lamp. Wi-Fi just about good enough. A more modern TV would be a nice edition . Maybe one of the smaller properties could be dog free for those with allergies. Fabulous location for Sudeley Castle and lovely walks.

Six night stay at Charles 1

Verified Up Front Reviews
This is our second time staying at Sudeley, but the first in Charles 1. The location close to Winchcombe is ideal, with multiple trails immediately from the property and all you need in Winchcombe, with multiple dining options and small independent shops. The access to to Sudeley Castle grounds and the castle is an excellent touch. The property works well for 2 people and the downstairs accommodation is is well equipped and ample space to move around. The newly updated private deck is excellent. Upstairs the bathroom is well equipped and has a good sized walk-in shower. The one area sadly lacking was the bedroom. It's big enough but totally lacks storage space and needs a chest of draws. The bed is small and for anyone like me over 6' has a footboard restricting movement in the bed. This led to a most uncomfortable 6 nights!

This property was in the perfect location for walking, an added bonus was visiting Sudeley Castle and taking the steam train. The property was very comfortable, quiet and warm. Compared to other properties we have stayed in very well equipped with lovely items left in the welcome pack.

An enjoyable and comfortable stay

Verified Up Front Reviews
We really enjoyed our stay in Charles 1 cottage. It was clean and comfortable with everything you needed. There were some nice touches with coffee and tea and jams plus some fresh milk in the fridge - (I particularly liked the coffee machine) and some nicely thought out toiletries in the bathroom. The bed was comfortable although the bed lights took a bit of working out and the right side one has a problem with the bulb. It would be nice to have had a chair to put clothes on when undressing. The floor in the double bedroom is very creaky - not possible to get up in the night for a bathroom visit without waking up anyone else! However the quirkiness of the cottage is what adds to its charm. There has been a great deal of work and expense carried out on the outside decking and seating area - all brand new and it looks lovely. The cottage is part of a nice looking and well maintained enclave of holiday accommodation with a large, convenient car park and is very well situated with an easy walk to Winchcombe high street and it is also possible to walk to the Castle from the cottage. Overall an excellent place to stay.

My mother-in-law stayed in this cottage over the weekend of my wedding at Sudeley castle. Lovely cottage, well appointed, and in a really convenient location for both the castle and for Winchcombe. Wedding night stay

Verified Up Front Reviews
The bridal party got ready in the cottage on the morning of my wedding. It was perfect - having the kitchen for food, for keeping the flowers fresh and for having space to have hair and make up. Thank GOODNESS for the sewing kit! At the last minute one of the bridesmaids got her zip stuck on her dress. We had to break the zip and sew her into her dress (using the little sewing kit that was left for us). Thank you - it saved the day! Then my husband and I spent our first night in the cottage. It was so peaceful and was perfect. Also lovely not to have too far to travel from Sudeley Castle.

Excellent apart from the bed and decking.

Verified Up Front Reviews
Everything about the cottage and location was perfect, apart from the bed and the decking outside the cottage: the bed and pillows were desperately uncomfortable and we slept really badly. The decking outside the cottage is lethal in the rain or damp. Very, very slippy. Simple things to address though, and I would stay again next year if they were.

A Wonderful Place to Stay

We were very happy with our stay at the Charles I cottage. We wanted somewhere in the Cotswolds within walking distance to a village and access to hiking trails. The cottage itself was perfect for two. We had an initial problem with the heat, but housekeeping fixed it quickly. The kitchen was kitted out with everything we could possibly need. It was very quiet.

We thought the cottage was really nice, close to town and with all the facilities you need. The car park was a definite plus and the free entry to the castle was great. Summer 2022 break

Verified Up Front Reviews
Was pleased to find this property available for a week during the summer having not been able to book the previous year where we’d had a short break in the Cotswolds which had left us wanting more. Well we weren’t disappointed! The location was great! We took advantage of a free visit to the castle and enjoyed our day out there. Easy to get to Cheltenham and well located for a short drive to other attentions. The cottage is was perfect for the three of us during our stay and the kitchen was well equipped and we hosted friends and family for dinner two nights. Walks and runs from the cottage were fantastic. Parking is was easy. Definitely worth revisiting and we’d look to stay at the same cottage and or one of the other cottages if we share it with family/friends in the future. Thanks

A tad more tlc?

Verified Up Front Reviews
We loved the cottage - the position, the building, the walk across to Sudeley all wonderful. All information and directions was extremely full and comprehensive. We did find the contacts over reservations, which had to be changed due to Covid, slightly haphazard. The big shame was the slight disconnect between what was promised and what we received. It was good value for money, but with the promises of excellent service etc etc we were expecting something more. The flat was clean, until you looked behind the tv, for example, where we found dust and cobwebs. There were a few moths fluttering about. The table was wiped clean but stained and looked like it needed a good polish to bring it back to its best. The shower door had no handle, the rubber bath mat had holes. Nothing very dramatic, but a slight disconnect between what was proudly promised and what we found. We also found the kitchen lacking in some basics: the small frying pan was not suited for the induction top, for example, and the lights over the hob didn’t work. It was nice to have the little boxes of goodies in the bathroom, right down to a sewing kit, and teabags, coffee, biscuits, even milk - lovely! It is just a shame to add all the extras, but not quite get the basics right. Maybe look at Landmark Trust for inspiration?

A real delight

Verified Up Front Reviews
I am such a fan of this place. A delightful little house which is only a short walk to the castle with all mod-cons. We had a dog with us and it was great for him as we could go for loads of walks. Also, the local Chinese takeout was incredible! Oh and the shower was literally the best one I've ever used. It is now my dream to have one just like it in my house. I would recommend it to anyone. Well anyone under 6 ft. The only downside of this place was that the beds have footboards - meaning if you are over 6 ft then you have to sleep curled up in a ball or some other annoying position. Even so, I loved staying here.

Justin Driskill

Issues for us

Verified Up Front Reviews
A number of issues arose during our stay. The visitor manual is out of date; the heating paragraph refers to a redundant remote control. It currently has a dial rather than a touch screen. The system is not timed but is temperature dependant, for example at 20 degrees, and then the boiler keeps coming on overnight. A little explanation would help. Similarly we only had intermittent hot water at the bathroom basin the first night, and no hot water at all the first morning. Trying to get help on a Saturdaybwas entertaining - we left 2 separate voicemail messages, waiting for a response, before we got to a duty person. The lack of hot water is a water pressure issue and took only seconds to resolve. Could this not have been checked prior to our visit? I requested a larger duvet for the single bed.A single duvet does not cover any adult adequately when turning over in bed - so a poor night’s sleep is inevitable. I would also suggest a non- slip mat for the shower; and that the full height mirror, in the main bedroom is fixed somehow rather than just leant against the wall.

Not quite up to expectations

Verified Up Front Reviews
Disappointed overall. After a long journey, our initial view was great. HOWEVER, Here are our initial impressions, bearing in mind my husband's mobility is somewhat impaired:- The hand rail onto the decking outside was missing. The keycode box could do with an update. Took a while to get it to work. Once inside, no milk as promised (aaagh, cup of tea top priority after a long drive), nor indeed pots of honey. 1) 4/5 for cleanliness - not convinced the bedding was particularly clean, but maybe because the sheet wasnt ironed. 2) Customer service - poor because there was nobody on site to report minor niggles to, eg getting into the property easily, 3) Comfort 4/5 - a cosy rug in seating area, along with better quality tv/reception would be helpful. 4) Condition 4/5 - certainly tired around the decking area, and inside, shower door handle missing as well as loose toilet seat. 5) Location - very good and beyond your control. 6) Value for money - over priced for quality of property, especially with a £70 surcharge for cleaning after a 3 night stay, and then being asked to leave it as we found it!! As you will surmise our stay was somewhat disappointing which wasn't helped by the the complex up and down staircases from bedroom to bathroom, and back!. My husband struggles with his mobility, so guess we didn't read the small print well enough.

An excellent apartment at Winchcombe.

Verified Up Front Reviews
A very well located property. Convenient for both the interesting small unspoilt town of Winchcombe, and short walk to Sudeley Castle & Gardens. The layout of the 2 storey apartment would suit a couple, or family of three. Everything necessary was provided for a self catering holiday, However Winchcombe does have several very good eateries, not to be missed. Altogether a very enjoyable stay.

Very low ceiling in bedrooms leading to a minor head injury to myself which was pretty traumatic but luckily didn't need hospital visit 2.wooden chairs outside are not very stable and minor leading forward can easily trip over someone if not vigilant .sturdier chairs recommended Otherwise was a lovely stay and as a group we had a great time

Nice location

Great location. Only a few minutes walk to town. Country walks on the doorstep. Clean cottage but it lacked somewhere to place a suitcase, we had to keep it on the floor. I think it was expensive considering there is no private garden and you share a terrace with neighbours on either side but then every holiday is expensive at the moment.

Perfect for our family break

We hired 2 cottages for a family break combined with going to Giffords Circus. The accommodation and facilities are of a very good standard and just perfect for our families needs.

The cottage was well equipped, spotlessly clean and in a good location. The only criticism is that's its rather expensive but so is the whole area.

Lovely place to stay

Our 2nd visit in a different property, it was as lovely the 2nd time as the 1st.. Beautiful accommodation and friendly responsive staff. A perfect place for a Cotswold walking holiday. .

Lovely quiet location with an abundance of walks on your doorstep. Cute cottage, which felt very clean, which is so important in the current times.

Perfect Covid safe place to stay in these strange times!!

Verified Up Front Reviews
Covid safe and soooo comfortable. Managed to catch up with elderly relatives and friends in Wiltshire/Gloucestershire safe in the knowledge that were staying in a really clean and isolated spot. Kitchen was well equipped, so we did not need to eat out in restaurants. We really appreciated being able to walk out straight into the countryside early in the morning.

Holiday in Winchcombe, Gloucestershire.

Verified Up Front Reviews
Very good area for walking, and superb views, good pubs and cafes around the area. Winchcombe is a charming town. The accommodation was as stated above very clean, and a good location, however the creaking floorboards were really really bad if you moved in the night everyone knew about it, the shower which was very good just needed a bit of maintenance and the accommodation was generally a bit spartan. We have stayed in a number of cottages and this was the first one without a welcome pack, there was one small bottle of milk, a few odd teabags and a bit of coffee not even cleaning products to clean bathroom or kitchen.I would say there was a slight feeling of meanness. Four dishwasher tablets for six nights, one spare black sack, two spare toilet rolls, the dog welcome pack consisted of a towel and and a dog bowl. It all felt like just in case we pinched the extras, but it was very convenient for the town, and with a little more thought and attention to detail it would be an absolutely lovely place to stay.

Enjoyable stay

Verified Up Front Reviews
We found the cottage comfortable and well equipped. The location was good being within walking distance of Winchcombe town centre and Studely Castle which we visited twice. Due to the size of the bedrooms there wasn't a lot of storage space for clothes etc. However we would have no hesitation in recommending the cottage to others.

Well-appointed, comfortable and warm!

Verified Up Front Reviews
As we arrived at Charles I on an extremely wet June afternoon, we were delighted that the heating was efficient and quickly warned the rooms. The cottage was welcoming - there was an excellent information book which was comprehensive. The kitchen was well designed and provided everything needed for self-catering. We enjoy cooking 'from scratch' when on holiday and found the kitchen had all we needed. The bedrooms had excellent lighting including reading lights in both bedrooms. One observation we have is that the double bedroom needed at least one chair (and a handle on the wardrobe door).

A nice place to chill out.

Stayed many times at these cottages, just felt that at 6ft 2” the bed was to short and the mattress very uncomfortable, other than that it’s a great place to stay.

A short break at Sudeley

Verified Up Front Reviews
Beautiful cottage in a very convenient, picturesque location. We were visiting the country fair at Sudeley and this was a superb base with just a short walk across the field to reach the fair.

3 night stay for walking

Verified Up Front Reviews
Lovely apartment in a quiet location, only a couple of minutes walk from the high street. Very well equipped kitchen, and lots of space. Owners kindly left a bottle of wine, as there was maintenance work going on, but as I was out during the day it didn't really affect me. It was a nice gesture. Would recommend Sudeley Castle cottages as a place to stay if you are walking or cycling in the area. There are lots of walks straight from the doorstep of the cottage.

Charles 1 had been very nicely refurbished especially the kitchen which also was well equipped. Also, it was well heated and felt very cosy. However, there were some major and minor irritations. The major one was the terrible floorboard creaking upstairs as one moved around. It was really bad. The minor ones were: terrible storage for clothes and bits. The cupboard in the main bedroom was ancient and had no handle so very difficult to open. There was absolutely no hanging space in the single room, not even a hook on the wall. The bathroom was very nice but had no shelf for the soap, shampoo etc in the shower. Everything had to go on the floor and for older people, the bending down was really difficult. The price per night would have been fair during the summer and the holiday season but really should have been reduced in the winter and out of the main holidays.

30 years coming here

Verified Up Front Reviews
I have stayed in most of these cottages over 30 years. It’s becoming on the expensive side for what you get. It is indeed comfortable and clean but each refurb seems to strip away at the charm, history comfort and character of these wonderful cottages. For the price I would have expected a bath and carpets downstairs. I realise these particular cottages are dog friendly but Lino in the lounge is really not ‘in keeping’. I will continue to return as it’s become somewhat of a family tradition. Winchcombe is a wonderful place with beautiful manageable walks.

September stay for overseas travelers

Verified Up Front Reviews
My wife and I are from the USA and this was out 4 th stay at the Sudeley Cottages. Our stay this time was pleasant and there were no problems. As indicated, we were happy to see the kitchen upgrade. And the new outdoor table and chairs. Its always good news that the property owners are continuing to maintain and upgrade the facilities. The induction heating cook top was a bit intimidating. Its not something we were used to and we had to get used to cooking with it, a bit of a challenge for a short stay. While very nice, perhaps a more conventional (at least by US kitchens) choice would be more convenient. The new refrigerator/freezer was very nice. While we didn't have a need to use it, having the washer/dryer is a real plus. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils and containers. The WI-FI was useless. The data transfer rates were so slow doing anything (checking the weather, flight information) was impossible. Computer would time out before the data would arrive. For us with wheelie baggage the gravel path to the unit was difficult. While not specifically related to the Charles I unit, Winchcombe had an excellent butcher, baker and deli. We see a green grocer has reappeared. For general groceries the Coop is a bit limited. Its with a bit of sadness we are writing this review as it may be our last stay at Sudeley. Being international travelers with time in the UK being valuable (can't just pop over for a few days) and with our previous stays we have taken advantage of most all of the features of this area of the Cotswalds and so the motivation to return to Sudeley is reduced. Also, we are getting older and getting (driving) to Sudelely is becoming more of a challenge.

Amazing location and good apartment. A bit overpriced but would still recommend

Verified Up Front Reviews
Winchcombe is a great place and the cottages are in an amazing location. Well appointed but a bit overpriced. If you’re cooking yourself, the kitchen is great. But bring all ingredients, even down to salt and pepper. The Lion Inn has amazing food.

Loved our stay.

Verified Up Front Reviews
Yes, a great time, walking, visiting the fabulous Sudeley Castle and grounds, Winchcombe a delightful town, great beer, shopping and so on. Charming location, cottages like a little village. Great having access to Sudeley. Went everywhere and it was great. Couldn't find the Isbourne walk after it crossed the field at the bottom of the town. It fizzled after a light industrial area. Other walks were great. Blackberries picked each evening with clotted cream. Call me simple but that did it every time. Be back like a shot if we were to do the Cotswalds again. Friendly locals stunning landscape. Quibble - please supply washing powder or whatever for the clothes washer. Our dishwasher never emptied so couldn't use it but once. Told the people doing the change but nothing happened.

NIce house, top location but a bit hemmed in.

Verified Up Front Reviews
The house was very nicely fitted out and was clean and tidy when we arrived. It is a 5 minute walk from the lovely town of Winchcombe with all the facilities you could want. All cooking equipment was provided and it was a comfortable place to spend a couple of nights. On the downside, you have to park a bit of a way from the house so you will need to carry bags. Also, you have to go up several steps to reach the property so not great if you are shaky on your feet or have an old dog to carry! Another slight problem is that the house is on top of the Chandos hall which is a function venue. There was a birthday party at lunchtime and you could hear some singing below. Not sure I would want to be in the house if there was an evening event in the hall. You share the decking with two houses side by side so you can't really have a quiet chat out there.

Great location but poor customer service and expensive for what it is

Verified Up Front Reviews
Great location. Bathroom heating not working (we went early april) and shower temperature too low. Asked for it to be fixed but nothing happenned. No microwave in kitchen. Outside is decking area you have to walk across to get to apartment. Looks good but very slippery when wet. I had a bad fall so watch out! Expensive for what it is, but may be the location that causes that.

Sudly Castle self catering

Verified Up Front Reviews
The grounds of the Castle are fantastic, the Castle imposing. The village near by picturesque The houses new but need maintenance. For example where we stayed the lamp cover near the bed was broken. It was dangerous as it was hanging on top of my head. No one had noticed, neither we bothered to ask any one. The people in the castle attentive. We had a problem with the heavy curtains and came fixed it at once. Usually in self catering accommodation the host provides a little something on arrival i.e. a bottle of water, milk, a few biscuits etc. The kitchen was well equipped BUT had NOTHING. If you go you must take something with you cause ~Cheltenham is a little far to go shopping if you arrive at 11pm as we did. All in all however a nice place to stay for a couple of days certainly if you like walking.

A Delightful Break

Verified Up Front Reviews
The cottage was perfect as a base for exploring the Cotswolds. An additional bonus was an excellent pub within easy walking distance. Being able to visit Sudeley Castle whenever we wished also made the whole experience special. Our only complaint was on our arrival. We had booked well in advance and the instructions we had received to access our cottage were no longer relevant. Thankfully the office at the castle was still open and a phone call gave us the correct code to open our door. Had we arrived an hour later we would have been forced to book into a hotel. Apart from that hiccup the stay was delightful.
