Overview
Sitting just above the banks of the River Wye above Symonds Yat East, The Weir House is made for walkers, cyclists, mountain bikers, watersports enthusiasts and groups of families and friends looking to spend quality time together. Surrounded by beautiful views, with the Netflix TV series Sex Education chalet in the woods behind, you will have a fantastic stay here no matter where your interests lie.
Set over three floors this incredibly well-equipped house has been finished to a high standard. The contemporary kitchen/dining area is warmed by a wood burner and is the heart of the home. Enjoy celebratory meals together here and step out onto the terrace for a toast on the river’s edge. At the end of busy days, put your feet up in the living room and chill out catching up on your favourite series on the large Smart TV. Perfect for multiple families sharing with two en-suite shower rooms and a further two bathrooms. The addition of a small sitting area on the second floor makes this a wonderfully communal house.
Making the most of the location, the private terrace enjoys uninterrupted views of the River Wye, you can dine al fresco while watching canoes float by on their way to tackle the rapids further downstream. You can enjoy this area no matter the weather and store muddy boots here after a long walk. Across the quiet lane is off road parking for four cars, a fantastic amenity that is hard to come by in this village.
Ground Floor
Kitchen/Dining Room:
The open plan kitchen/dining area is where you will spend the majority of your time together. This bright and welcoming room looks through the French doors across the terrace to the wooded slopes opposite. A modern woodburning stove adds comfort and warmth while you dine at the table seating eight. A breakfast bar separates the kitchen area and provides space to serve from. Beyond, the well-equipped kitchen has a range cooker, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine, dishwasher and ample fridge/freezers. There is plenty of storage space including a handy pantry.
Living Room:
This cosy room has been beautifully finished with light wood and neutral colours, offset by the bright blue sofas. With space for six to sit comfortably, retire here after dinner once the children have gone to bed for evening drinks or a movie night on the large Smart TV. Doors open to the terrace so you can extend the space and watch the sun setting over the hills.
First Floor
Bedroom One:
Wake up in the king-size bedroom to a river view whetting your appetite for exploration. There are bedside tables, a chest of drawers, wardrobe and a Smart TV so you can relax here at the end of the day.
En-Suite:
In the en-suite is a shower, WC and sink and there is room to store your toiletries so you can feel at home.
Bedroom Two:
Two single beds furnish bedroom two and you can also enjoy a river view from here. There are bedside tables, a chest of drawers, wardrobe and Smart TV.
En-Suite:
This twin room also has a compact en-suite shower room with shower, WC and sink.
Bathroom:
Completing the first floor is a family bathroom, so you have the option to relax amongst the bubbles after a long country hike, perhaps to see the views from nearby Yat Rock. There is a deep bath with shower over with a rainfall shower over, and a WC and sink.
Second Floor
Bedroom Three:
At the top of the house, bedroom three has a double bed and looks over the river to the trees beyond through a Velux window. It is well furnished with bedside tables chest of drawers and hanging space. Both second floor bedrooms sit under the roof and have reduced head height on one side.
Bedroom Four:
The second double bedroom on this floor also has bedside tables, chest of drawers and hanging space. Wake up and open the Velux window to gaze across the river.
Sitting Area:
A surprising addition at The Weir House is the second floor sitting area. With a mini fridge and kettle you don’t need to head down to the kitchen to make a morning cup of coffee. There is a table and four chairs for guests of bedrooms one and two to spend time together and a Smart TV. If you need to catch up on work there is also a small desk. A door opens to the rear terrace and looking up the hill behind, you will see the famous red chalet often seen in the popular Sex Education TV series.
Shower Room:
Equipped with a shower, WC and sink, this shower room can be shared between guests staying in bedrooms one and two.
Outside
Make the most of your stay at The Weir House by watching the river flow by from the terrace. Dine al fresco, have a morning coffee and pastry or just sit with a book as paddleboarders float on by. Fire up the BBQ and enjoy time here no matter the weather. Behind the house is a second terrace where you will find laundry facilities.

This was a group booking for me and my colleagues - we were recording a music album in the area and we immediately fell in love with the photos of the beautiful surroundings so had to book! The property is absolutely perfect - super comfortable rooms, plenty of space, lovely, clean and neutral decor and so many bathrooms! We had the best time ever and would love to come back sometime. The Saracens Head pub next door offers delicious food and you can walk up to the beautiful Symonds Yat Rock in 15 mins. I couldn't recommend the place more.

The house is located in the absolutely stunning Wye Valley, with lots of beautiful walks right at the doorstep. The house is right next to a lovely pub, but the noise insulation is great and we didn't hear a peep. Inside, everything is very recently redone, modern but cosy and very spacious. The kitchen is very well kitted out.

Great stay

Lovely, big house. Well equipped and comfy beds. Plenty of space for 4 friends, and would be plenty big enough for 8. Really handy to have the parking directly opposite. Great base for outdoor activities including walking and paddle boarding. Ate at the pub next door on the first night which was great.

A brilliant place to stay,

Next to a pub, with good beer and food, but quiet with a bit of a buzz in the middle of the day, but quiet morning and from late afternoon; perfect.
Comfy bed, good quality sheets.
Well supplied kitchen for cooking and entertaining

Lovely House with a riverside view.

Clean, very comfortable and extremely well equipped house overlooking the River Wye. There were six of us on a long weekend and more than enough space for the copious amount of food and drink we took with us, with the additional fridge and freezer. The spacious front balcony overlooking the River was an added bonus and pleasant to sit with friends and wine and watch all the River activity. There are plentiful walks in the area without taking the car.
The owners were friendly and responsive to any needs we had and own the pub next door so easy to contact if necessary.
All in all, this is a lovely home from home property with everything you could possibly need for a relaxing holiday in a stunning part of the country.

Perfect house for family gathering

The house was very well situated; my parents loved to be able to watch people coming and going along the river and the road outside whilst sitting in comfort on the terrace. The house was very well equipped and certainly plenty of space for the 6 of us and would easily accommodate the 8. Clean and tidy upon arrival and we were grateful to be able to have an early check in and late check out. No traffic or people noise inside the house. Very useful car parking area for 4 cars, very important during busy months.
The sun shined all weekend, we were very lucky.

Perfect holiday rental in a beautiful location

Attentive owners looking after our every need.
Exceptionally well equipped kitchen, beautifully renovated throughout. Overlooking the River Wye and watching the kayakers was the cherry on the cake.

Extended family - perfect house and location

Grandparents, parents and 12 year old grandchild. Re-visiting the Ross area to see relatives and to look around the town and the area. Weir House was perfect. Always something to watch from the patio - the river, the woods, the birds. Plenty of space for us. A very well-equipped kitchen though we ate at the brilliant Saracens Head next door. Ross is a bustling market town with many shops. The nearby Butterfly Farm visit was a great success for our grandchild. A week would not have been enough to see all that was in easy reach of Weir House. We even had our own parking space. Thank you so much for the yummy welcome gifts. 10/10!

The Weir House was ideal for a family get together. It was spacious and well equipped. The large kitchen was a definite plus. The location was perfect over looking the river. There were numerous walks and cycling opportunities from the doorstep as well as a variety of water activities. The Saracens Head next door was a great place to have a meal or a drink..We will definitely return.

A Perfect family Bolthole

We had a fabulous time in this stunning house which is in a perfect location in Symonds Yat right on the river. We had mixed weather but enjoyed our terrace BBQs and sitting at the kitchen table which easily sits 8 for family games every night. The house is beautifully renovated and easily sleeps 8 with 4 bathrooms which was a real godsend. Any small things we were short off we could pop to the Saracens head next door who were most accommodating. We would not hesitate to return to enable us to explore some more of this beautiful area. Would highly recommend.

Surprise 60th birthday weekend

Wow what a property. It has everything. Perfect location with easy parking and lovely views across the Wye River. Renovated to a very high standard with large kitchen diner to eat and relax with snug area having large screen TV all to accommodate 3 generations of our family. The property had everything for us to have a lovely weekend with great pub next door for fabulous food and drinks with lovely walks and water sport facility nearby. We highly recommend this facility and look forward to booking again in the future. Thank you to the owners again.

I stay at the pub/hotel many times on business and its always a pleasure to come back, especially with my family.

Gem on the River: A Review of Weir House

What a gem! Weir House is a lovely modern bright property with plenty of space. The views of the river are breathtaking. The top floor, as well as having two bedrooms and a bathroom, also has a nice little break out area with a study desk, small table and even a small fridge, it's perfect if someone in your group wants their own space. Ample parking right outside. Pete and his team were friendly, responsive and even left us welcome gifts. It's peaceful
and quiet despite being a popular area for visitors with a restaurant next door, we could even hear the birds sing which was a delight. The house had everything we needed apart from food of course so you may want to take something as there's no shop in the immediate vicinity but Pete left us milk and we had a great breakfast at Woods of Whitchurch which is only 10 mins drive. Enjoyed lovely meals at Saracens next door & the Royal Lodge a few doors away. Very picturesque to walk along the river and up to Yat Rock. Goodrich Castle & Ross on Wye are a short drive away. Driving up to the house late evening is just stunning with the lights from houses on the other side of the river all the way up the hill like stars. Wish we could've stayed longer. Thank you Pete for a great stay.
