Just outside Burford in a quiet hamlet you find Betty’s Cottage. This historic, thatched cottage is a chocolate box scene brought to life. Once two properties, it has been renovated with a touch of the old and the new to create the three-bedroom home you see today. With an unusual layout you can spend time in the modern kitchen/diner or the comfortable living room which has a wood-burning stove in the old part of the cottage. With Cotswold highlights such as Blenheim Palace, Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold and Cirencester within easy reach, Betty’s Cottage is the ideal country hub.

Overview

Betty’s Cottage is a quaint Cotswold stone cottage with a traditional thatched roof, set in the quiet village of Taynton. This peaceful location is centrally located to see a wide range of what the Cotswolds has to offer.

The cottage is split across the original building and a modern extension to the rear. This combination results in a cottage full of character and intrigue. You enter into the living room with its warming woodburner and showcase of original features which includes old wooden beams, open stone walls and flagstone flooring. You will be delighted by the glass walkway through to the kitchen/diner which is a light and airy room. Open the sliding doors to bring the outdoors in and enjoy meals together at the dining table or in the garden. With a shower room and bedroom on the ground floor, and two further bedrooms on the first floor, Betty’s Cottage will suit groups of friends or families looking to explore this area.

The rear garden is a hidden haven with a lawn and set of table and chairs so you can take meals out or enjoy evening drinks together. Enjoy the peace of mind knowing the garden is fully enclosed so the dogs and children can play safely. You will find on-street parking on the main street and there is also a small space on the private driveway.

Ground Floor

Living Room:
You can see a lot of the history of Betty’s Cottage in the living room. With open beams and leaded windows, the change in flooring shows where the cottage was once divided into two separate properties. There is a sofa and armchair providing seating for four in front of the woodburner and there is a TV here to keep you entertained on evenings in.

Bedroom Three:
This ground-floor bedroom has a double bed accessed from one side. Set away from the other bedrooms it provides more privacy and it is a cosy space to rest at the end of the day. There is the added benefit of a sink in this room.

Shower Room:
The shower room makes clever use of space with a sliding door and compact sink. There is a shower and WC.

Kitchen/Diner:
This bright and spacious room was a modern addition to Betty’s Cottage. An expanse of glass lets in the light, and you can open the doors to extend this space into the garden. A dining table seats six and the kitchen includes all the appliances you will need to cook delicious family meals.

Utility:
Hidden in the utility is the tumble dryer and you will also find some children’s toys and games to keep little ones entertained.

First Floor

Bedroom One:
At the front of the cottage, bedroom one has a king-size bed and looks out across the quiet main street. Bedside lights and wall lamps provide soft lighting and there is a useful shelf above the bed to store your luggage out of the way.

Bathroom:
The family bathroom has a bath with a shower over, WC and sink. Shared between the two first-floor bedrooms it is perfect for a relaxing evening soak or a quick morning shower before heading out for a walk.

Bedroom Three:
The final bedroom has twin beds set before the feature wall which has a network of open beams. This room has a high ceiling and is a charming room with plenty of storage space.

Outside

The garden is a lovely space to spend time in the sunny months and take meals outside. There is a wooden deck with a table and chairs seating six nestled in a sheltered corner. The garden stretches before you with a lawn perfect for playing with the children and dogs. There is on-street parking available outside the cottage and a small driveway will fit one compact car.

Very welcoming, warm, comfortable. Everything we needed for a few days break. Very happy.

A fabulous stay in a beautiful cottage close to Burford.

We had a wonderful stay (four adults and two young children). The cottage is beautiful and in a quiet location close to Burford. We had everything we needed and enjoyed spending our time inside just relaxing in the cottage just as much as being out and about in the Cotswolds. The host really made the stay special with some welcome treats and there were lots of little extras if needed. We will be back! Highly recommend.

Lovely stay at Betty's Cottage

Verified Up Front Reviews
Betty's Cottage was actually as described, very cosy, very comfortable, a lovely place for myself and five friends to stay. With easy to follow check in instructions. Comfy beds with beautiful cotton bedding and soft fluffy towels, a selection of toiletries for use, which is helpful if you've forgotten anything. Kitchen was well equipped, we did struggle to get the induction oven and hob to work, instructions are provided, there were four catering cooks amongst us, it did take some time to eventually get it to work! Something to bare in mind if you are planning on cooking. Garden is just beautiful, very private, very tranquil, We did struggle to book a taxi, as if planning an evening into Burford you would need to book one, would recommend that you did this days in advance, as we had not. The owner politely allowed us to check out an hour later, which was very much appreciated. Only downside, we wished we had booked for an additional night! All in all Betty's Cottage is a definite Yes from us.

Wonderful cottage in a superb town. Cottage which breathes authenticity and comfort. Second year in a row, we enjoy this cottage. Highly recommendable!

Betty's Cottage, Taynton

Verified Up Front Reviews
Betty's Cottage was ok but, given the price, we were expecting to have proper mattresses on the beds, rather than foam mattresses. As the property owner had offered us a slightly later departure time than normal (11am), it was a shame that he turned up at 10am and was clearly grumpy that we were still packing up. It left a rather sour taste in the mouth.

Lovely cottage, good communication with directions and instructions. Nice to find chocolates milk and prosecco in the fridge. Lovely big garden well maintained. Peaceful location. Facilities good although need more plates and not pasta bowls. Double room on first floor the bed was smaller than I'm used to but was okay for the 3 nights. Plenty of towels and toiletries. Really enjoyed our stay and would stay again. Thank you for a lovely family break.

Chocolate box cottage in quite village close to Burford

Verified Up Front Reviews
This cottage ticked all our boxes: picturesque, thatched, open log fire in cosy lounge, 3 bedrooms inc one on the ground floor for mum) 2 bathrooms and the most perfect social kitchen you could ever ask for. Lots of different lighting throughout, so you could go cosy or bright, good sized garden and parking. The cottage combines traditional features with modern additions, which really works. The beds were comfy and it's very quiet! Thanks for the welcome bottle, chocs and milk, plus coffee pods for nespresso machine, tea bags and sugar - you never know what's going to be in a rental but this was good. We will definitely return in the near future - thanks Mark.

Beautiful cottage in an idyllic Cotswold village

Betty’s cottage was perfect for our Cotswold stay. The property is beautifully decorated, well equipped and has a fabulous garden for warm days. Ideal for exploring the area and a haven to return to at the end of the day. It really suited our group with the downstairs bedroom & showroom for our elderly member of the party

Needs a few tweaks to make it perfect

Pretty cottage with a lovely modern kitchen. Nice decoration throughout. Very comfy downstairs bed. Very quiet location, perfect if you want to get away from stress. Close to Burford so easy to get food etc. Bolt hole Retreats is an excellent company to deal with. Everything managed quickly and efficiently. They made me aware that Bettys Cottage was a new addition so I am guessing they were not aware of the difficulties below. I would suggest they are rectified for the property to be up to the high standards of Bolthole Retreats. Bolthole Retreats mentioned there was a welcome pack of essentials (tea coffee milk etc) so we did not bring it with us. However this was not there (the small bottle of champagne and chocolates was a nice touch). The Wi-Fi did not reach the kitchen and so it would be nice if the owners could obtain a booster as we did most of our entertaining there. The owner was just leaving the property when we arrived. He did not wait to welcome us. When we got in we noticed the 2nd single bed had not been made up. When I called he explained where the bedding was (under the bed), and asked us to make it up ourselves, There was hair in the plug hole of the shower room. The shower head in the bathroom upstairs is too strong and the whole room was flooded when the shower head flew off it’s setting. Maybe a sign in this bathroom to let people know? There were nails poking out of the decking and one of the wooden slats dipped when you walked on it. Bolthole Retreat stated on day of departure to leave at 10am but the owners manual said 9am. The Bolthole Retreats information on what the property contains, did not mention a coffee pod machine. There was one there so it would be good to mention as a selling point as we brought our own and didn’t need to.

Quiet and peaceful getaway

Verified Up Front Reviews
I booked this lovely cottage for a small family get together and not knowing the area well , took a chance on the location and whilst the cottage is in a rural location (no shops/pubs) the nearest town Burford had all we needed. The cottage is well equipped but bring basics like tea, coffee milk etc and if u want to light the fire you will need to locate fire logs, none provided for us. There is enough cutlery and cups etc for 6 , the garden is lovely and private. There is one double room downstairs and 2 up a steep stairs(beware coming down as low ceiling u will bump your head if not paying attention!!) The Cotswolds is a lovely place to visit, the very wet season means there is a fair bit of flooding about , we enjoyed our visit and will be back.
