It was the architecture of Rajasthani India that inspired the design of Pineapple Spa Cottage – a Grade II listed hideaway complete with a natural spring that was modelled into a small spa by 19th century architect, Samuel Pepys Cockerell. Marrying Georgian elegance with Eastern influences, the intricacy of the exterior ranges from delicate scalloped windows to golden fir finials and pineapple motifs while the architectural romance continues inside thanks to regal high ceilings and stone-carvings. Just outside the sleepy village of Lower Swell, it’s just moments away from the butter-hued streets of Stow-on-the-Wold.

Overview

Driving through the Cotswolds to your holiday destination you will pass by popular destinations like Stow-on-the-Wold, Upper and Lower Swell and Bourton-on-the-Water. When you arrive at Pineapple Spa Cottage the breathtaking carved stone façade is a reflection of the beauty you will find within. It is debated that the property was designed by Samuel Pepys Cockerell, the architect behind Sezincote House. The front door opens into the living room with a large ornate mirror, wood burner in a detailed surround and a luxurious sparkling chandelier in the high ceiling above. A comfortable sofa and armchair gather around the fire providing a comfortable place to enjoy an evening drink. An open stone wall showcases the pineapple font through an archway as you pass through to the rest of the cottage.

The well-equipped kitchen has an electric AGA, a Belfast sink and plenty of space to prepare delicious meals to be enjoyed around the four-seater dining table. Doors open from here to the lawned garden which you can climb to enjoy beautiful Cotswold country views. From the living room a number of steps lead you to the lavish bedrooms which have been furnished with a high attention to detail. The bathroom at Pineapple Spa Cottage is a fantastic addition where you will find yourself spending many hours. The freestanding reclaimed copper bath makes you feel like royalty as you soak away your worries.

With off-road parking for two cars and unmissable sights such as Sezincote House and Gardens, Chastleton House and the towns and villages of Chipping Norton, Broadway and Cheltenham a bit further afield this is the perfect Cotswold getaway.

Ground Floor

Sitting Room:
Full of unique features and eye-catching décor the first thing that takes your eye is the pineapple water fountain at the end of the room. No longer connected to the spa supply, many women over the years have visited this tiny spa for the health benefits of the waters here. A glass panel in the corner of the room shows the spa below and if you listen carefully you can hear the water trickling. There is comfortable seating for four, a wood burner, artwork showing the spa exterior and an upcycled dresser which used to house chickens. Full of character this sitting room is a beautiful space to spend your evenings.

Kitchen/Diner:
Two steps from the living room take you down to the kitchen/diner passing a handy WC on the left. The kitchen has enough space to prepare meals with an electric AGA and all the modern conveniences you could need. The dining table seats four in front of patio doors which open to the garden and patio.

First Floor

In front of the pineapple spa font, stairs curve around to the first bedroom.

Bedroom One:
The only room on this floor, this first bedroom is a king-size with an elegant gold bedframe and luxuriously plump bedding. Built-in wardrobes hiding a pull-out TV and a dressing table with carved pineapple details around the mirror is perfect for getting ready for a meal out. There are mirrored bedside tables and wall lights to each side of the bed. Overlooking the garden this quiet room is a peaceful retreat.

Second Floor

More stairs take you up to the second-floor landing with a small bench, before there are three steps down to the second bedroom and the bathroom.

Bedroom Two:
In the eaves at the front of the cottage, this king-size room has an open stone wall, exposed beams and a wooden floor. Decorated in a tranquil blue with a selection of books you can relax on the armchair with a cup of coffee. A bedside table and built-in dress offer storage and there is a lamp and TV. The ornate framed mirror adds a touch of luxury to this room.

Bathroom:
Completing this cottage is a stunning bathroom with a freestanding copper bath, separate shower, bowl sink unit and WC. The reclaimed bath holds its heat so you can spend hours here away from the real world. An old fireplace surround and open stone wall add a grandeur to this room.

Outside

A patio outside the kitchen has a dining table for four and leads up to a sloped lawn which looks out across surrounding countryside and a lake, above which the sunsets are spectacular. Opposite the cottage there is private parking for two cars.

Perfect Stay in the Cotswolds in a beatiful house

Verified Up Front Reviews
Perfect stay for a long weekend! Loved the decor of the house and all the little details. The house is in a perfect location from the usual suspects of sightseeing. Couldnt recommend more! Only tiny issue is we didnt have enough towels for some reason - i would expect more bathroom amenities (towels/robe/slippers) etc.

We loved this magical getaway while visiting the Cotswolds! It was a beautiful place to call home. Made for a cosy night in and a beautiful retreat after a long day of exploring. Beautiful memories made!

Bridget

Overall our stay was lovely, beautiful house and our host was great. The location was very good.

Five stars all the way! Loved this location. The house had everything you would need. Walkable to the quaint town of Stow-On.The-Wold.If you cross over the road you can walk to town on a public footpath through the cricket field directly to the village through the church walkway. Takes about 15 mins. The outdoors of this house is beautiful. We had cheese, crackers and a bottle of wine from Daylesford on the back patio. Don't hesitate. Stay here! You'll love it.

Fabulous spa retreat in the heart of the Cotswolds

I booked the Pineapple Spa Cottage as it looked so gorgeous in the photos and it was in a great location, right in the heart of the Cotswolds. My friend and I stayed for four nights and if anything our expectations were exceeded. It is a wonderful little gem of a cottage which has been beautiful restored . On arrival we found a lovely basket of goodies waiting for us and Rachel the owner was super helpful as we managed to lock ourselves out one morning. The cottage is superbly equipped and luxuriously decorated. It made our little break really special . I would definitely return and would highly recommend a stay.

Just the best cottage we have stayed in - everything from location, cleanliness, design, comfort, welcome pack, thoughtfulness - just the most beautiful property. It's expensive but when you get there you can see why. The detail in the design is stunning. Thank you to Rachel, the owner, who was in contact with us and ensured we enjoyed our stay - the best welcome pack was provided.

The cottage is really beautiful and very well decorated. The garden is perfect!!! We were lucky with the weather!! We had sunshine!! The copper bathtub is wonderful!!!

Mabel

We had a lovely stay at the Pineapple Spa. Thoughtful touches were everywhere, from basics in the fridge to firewood for the stove. The beds were comfortable and the copper tub luxurious! We especially enjoyed saying good morning and good night to the sheep that graze in the pasture beyond the back garden. Easy access to a number of villages in the Cotswolds.

Magical place. Incredible countryside. Beautiful garden in the back. Inviting and sophisticated decor. A great place for a get away.

A Perfectly Charming Cottage Getaway

Verified Up Front Reviews
My husband and I booked this cottage for my 30th birthday, and it exceeded all our expectations. The cottage is absolutely charming and beautifully decorated with thoughtful attention to detail throughout. It was spotlessly clean and fully stocked with all the essentials, making our stay incredibly comfortable. The beds were especially cozy, and every room reflected a tasteful, cozy aesthetic that made it feel like a true home away from home. The location is just a short drive from the lovely shops and cafes in Stow-on-the-Wold, which made exploring the area easy and enjoyable. Do note that the road leading to the cottage gets quite dark at night, so having a car is essential as there are no amenities within walking distance. Overall, a wonderful experience - we would definitely return!

Such a lovely and unique home. Lovely and easy.

Quirky and comfortable

Verified Up Front Reviews
Excellent property in all respects other than fronting directly onto a busy main road at peak times (60 mph speed limit). This was such a shame and detracted from our enjoyment of the incredible lounge. The property is described as nestling in the village which sadly is not really the case. Highly recommend the cottage itself if prepared to tolerate the road outside.

Comfortable and quirky cottage

Verified Up Front Reviews
We (family of 4) enjoyed our stay at Pineapple Spa Cottage. The living room was very cosy, the kitchen was extremely well equipped, the beds were comfortable the shower was hot and the place was very close to the shops and restaurants of Stow-on-the-Wold - so it had everything we needed for our 3 night stay. The things we weren’t so keen on are really a matter of personal taste - there are a lot of quite narrow stairs, the traffic speeds past the house and it is quite noisy in the top bedroom, and we found the decoration edged towards clutter. But overall a great stay.

Lovely Cotswold Stay

Verified Up Front Reviews
An absolutely lovely cottage in the heart of Cotswolds, surrounded by nature. The house had everything you needed, although it was missing some soap and shower gel in the bathroom, but that might have been a slight omission. And the little garden was incredibly cosy and beautiful! Would most surely be back.

Warm cottage feel with beautiful interior design

Verified Up Front Reviews
Pineapple spa cottage has all the elements of a quaint cosy English cottage set in a Cotswold village and more. Beautiful stone architecture, history stemming from Roman times, cute little nooks to sit and read a book; yet modern kitchen & bath and stunning interior design that provides every comfort. Thank you for an amazing experience and we look forward to returning as well as recommending to our friends and family!

A stunning cottage in perfect location

We were very impressed with this beautiful Cotswolds retreat. A pleasant walk into the centre of Stow and to a local friendly pub. Perfectly situated to visit other famous towns in the area by car. A very warm welcome was experienced on arrival. Just very slight difficulty finding it in the dark and I would encourage the owner to give the street name along with the Postcode. Other than that it was perfect in every way. Thank you

Charming Cottage

Verified Up Front Reviews
I recently stayed at this charming cottage, which was well appointed, clean, and very comfortable. The wood-burning stove and copper bathtub were both highlights. The owner was wonderful and highly responsive. A lovely welcome basket was provided, and soap was in each bathroom, but you should bring your own toiletries. One slight downside, which is of no fault of the owner, is that cars do speed down the road quite quickly and can be heard inside the retreat. This is only during the day and at bedtime it is quite quiet. One of the bedrooms does not face the street and is quieter than the other. Otherwise, cottage is in the perfect location to see most of the sites in the northern Cotswolds. I would stay here again.

Fabulous stay

We have just returned from a fabulous 7 night stay at Pineapple Spa Cottage. The location is excellent. Stow-on-Wold - a very lovely Cotswold town - is a very short drive away. Chipping Camden, Cheltenham, Broadway and other great places to visit are also easily accessible. The cottage is gorgeous, and extremely well equipped. There is a great electric Aga (very easy to use), a dishwasher, fridge freezer and a washer drier. There is plenty of crockery and cookware in the lovely dining kitchen. The bedrooms are super comfy with plenty of hanging space. There is a downstairs cloakroom, and a lovely full bathroom with a rainfall shower and fabulous vintage copper bath tub. There are loads of towels and ample toiletries. Outside there is a court yard with seating and an electric BBQ, a large lawned area, and dedicated parking for two cars across the road. Communication with Rachel, the host, is easy and she is very responsive. Pineapple Spa Cottage is a great place to stay when visiting the Cotswolds - we loved it!

Beautiful place

Pineapple cottage is beautiful. The host left us a basket of goodies, milk, juice, butter and wine. Very comfortable bed. We took a lovely, easy walk to Stow. The only issue was the very poor water pressure in the upstairs and downstairs bathroom sinks. And the copper bathtub does need some TLC.

Wonderful Luxurious Cottage

Wow! Wow! Wow! First of all, the pictures do not even begin to do this wonderful cottage justice. The cottage is spotlessly clean and finished to the absolutely highest standards throughout. Every detail of this beautiful little cottage has been carefully thought out with luxury and comfort in mind. The owner's personal touches are evident throughout and this only adds to the charm of this lovely property. The owner was so helpful before our stay and the lovely little welcome basket and wine on our arrival was such a lovely surprise. I cannot recomend this property highly enough. It is by far one of the lovliest properties we have stayed in and we will most certainly be back.
