Overview
As you stand on Park Street, looking across at Stow House, you’ll immediately feel a sense that this handsome, three-storey house has been nurtured and restored to a very high specification. The house sits at the end of a terrace of Cotswold stone houses. To one side is an ancient footpath leading to the fabulous garden and Back Walls road. The house is located within a child’s stone’s throw of two of Stow’s most highly acclaimed foodie destinations, The Old Butchers and Sheep on Sheep Street.
The beautifully restored interior perfectly combines the character of the original 18th century home, including exposed timbers and stone walls, with an exceptionally high standard of renovation, stylish furnishing and calming colourways. The elegant living room, with its oak floor and wood burning stove provides a cosy retreat, while the dining room with its lantern roof is a light and relaxing space to entertain. To the rear is a contemporary extension with a gorgeous kitchen and sunny breakfast room that opens to the garden. On the first floor are three stylish, light and airy double ensuite bedrooms, plus a further single bedroom with an adjoining cloakroom. Head through a glass panelled door to the top floor and the stunning master suite, with a freestanding bath and walk-in shower and great views across Stow’s rooftops.
To the rear of the house is a delightful, south-facing garden designed as an extension of the interior, with a lawn and mature planting, a pond and two terraces – an unusual luxury for a town house in popular Stow. The lower terrace, immediately outside the dining room and kitchen, has sofa seating while the upper terrace has a refectory-style, wooden dining table, a long bench and chairs, a BBQ and superbly atmospheric lighting - creating an enchanting space for summertime entertaining.

Carpeted stairs lead up to the second floor and the breath-taking master suite, which occupies the whole of the top floor. The beautifully converted light and bright loft room is cleverly divided using a soft grey carpet at the bedroom end and polished limestone tiling at the bathroom end. The bedroom is furnished with a king-size bed on a solid wood base with bedside chest of drawers and reading lamps, and a sleek, custom-built wardrobe with plenty of hanging space and shelving. Two windows afford a great view out over the roof tops of Stow.
The open-plan bathroom is fabulously stylish and inviting, and features a deep, oval bath with freestanding mixer taps, and a wet room screen behind which is a double-width shower with rainfall and handheld shower heads, with a heated towel rail to each side. A custom-built, wooden vanity unit holds a polished stone washbasin with a mirror above and lights to either side. In the corner, below a Velux window, a three-quarter height stone wall conceals the toilet.
Outside
Stow House has a gorgeous, south-facing, private garden complete with a bijou English-country house lawn, borders bursting with flowers, walls covered in climbing roses and delicate hawthorn flowers. There’s even a small pond at the centre, home to lilies, reeds and rushes and the occasional froggy visitor. Immediately outside the dining room and kitchen is a terrace with sofa seating and a coffee table – making the perfect spot to enjoy a morning tea or coffee. At the far end, the garden transforms itself into an uber-stylish upper terrace with flagstones, and outside lighting that creates a delightful ambiance in the evening to enjoy sat around the dining table waiting for the food to be served from the charcoal barbecue.

Wonderful stay at Stow House

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Stow House. The property is beautiful, impeccably clean, tastefully presented, and equipped with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable and relaxing break. Every detail has clearly been thought through, making it feel like a real home away from home.
The location is perfect for exploring Stow-on-the-Wold and the surrounding Cotswolds, and it was lovely to come back to such a peaceful and cosy space at the end of each day. The on-hand help and communication were excellent from start to finish, which made the whole stay feel effortless and very welcoming.
Overall, it was an excellent experience from beginning to end. I would highly recommend Stow House to anyone looking for a high-quality place to stay in this beautiful part of the country, and I would happily return.

The Stow House is the best property we have stayed in. The location could not be better. We had our family staying there and each one can be particular but they all loved their rooms and living space. Highly recommend to anyone with people who have different likes!

Second stay at this wonderful house

Along with 3 close friends with whom I trained to be a nurse many, many years ago, we stayed at Stow House for the second year running, having found it to be perfect in location, comfort, and luxury. It is literally a few steps away from all the shops and numerous cafes/pubs/restaurants, without being noisy. All the beds are super comfy, there are plenty of bathrooms, the kitchen is very well equipped and the sitting room is so welcoming with a gorgeous log burner.
Highly recommend.

Great location and a very comfortable home.

Perfect stay with the family.

Excellent stay in a beautiful town. Property was fantastic and really family friendly- lots of extras like shampoo and conditioner in every bathroom, a range of cooking ingredients such as spices and plenty of additional towels.
Nerissa
We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home. The home is well stocked, including the kitchen. We enjoyed being able to walk or drive to a store for groceries and cook and eat in the beautiful kitchen and dining room. Our children loved reading by the cosy fire, and the assortment of games, books, and puzzles was incredibly helpful. Everything was clean and comfortable as well as well-decorated. It truly felt like a home away from home. We only wish we could have stayed longer!
Andrew
We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Stow House! There was plenty of room for our group to spread out and enjoy this lovely historic home. The charming town is right out the door with restaurants and shops just steps away. The kitchen was terrific and very well stocked with dishes and cookware, and the backyard is beautiful! It is the perfect location to enjoy Stow on the Wold. We would absolutely choose to stay there again!
Heidi
A great place to escape and chill.

Great little cottage on the high street in Stow on the Wold - its bigger than you first think!

First of all, the position is just great. Go out of the front door and youre straight in the middle of the town. Shops, pubs, antique shops, restaurants - all at your finger tips. Parking can be a challenge, but there are usually spaces on the road at the rear and we never had a problem. The side gate is great for access to this facility.
The cottage at first seems small but its like a tardis. Three floors and lots of space at the rear for a lovely dining room, kitchen and breakfast area. Theres also a little garden area for a sunny aperitif or late breakfast!
Rosie was most helpful when we were stuck with the locked timer function on the very modern cooker. Otherwise, my only real issue was that the house felt as though it could do with a deep clean. Some of the pots in the kitchen were mouldy and couldnt be used. The small cupboard where the boiler is situated really needs de-cluttering. Its an accident waiting to happen!
Overall, we had a lovely time and adore Stow as a place to visit.

Perfect Cotswold Stay

My group of 8 loved this house! Plenty of towels, super clean, great kitchen, a great backyard, and within walking distance to EVERYTHING in Stow in under 5 minutes. The only suggest I have is that we Americans love ICE - there was one ice tray that made 8 mini-cubes. More ice trays would be an easy and inexpensive plus!

Our stay at Stow House was delightful. I was concerned that being right in the middle of town would seem busy, but it was an excellent location. We did not have a car, so it was great to be able to walk to restaurants and shops. The house is well equipped and even has fans and extension cords in the bedrooms. The beds were comfortable, the bedrooms spacious and the whole place was clean and attractive. Bolthole Retreats was easy to work. We’d love to come back to the Cotswold’s, and we would be happy to stay at Stow House again.

Weekend With Family

The property is well equipped and very central to Stow. The small garden and patio/bar b q area is very nice as is the master suite on the top floor.
Whilst clean and everything worked well some paint touch up and repainting is needed...which I guess is a winter job!
The front bedrooms are quite noisy from the road outside and parking is sometimes a challenge with access quite restricted...
The Old Butchers and Sheep could not be closer and Stow is a very nice place.

Spacious house in a great location

Great accommodation for 9 girls spending time together to celebrate birthdays during a long weekend. Very spacious inside and outside. All double rooms have an ensuite bathroom so no falling out, the superior bedroom was very impressive. We visited during a heatwave and each bedroom was supplied with an electric fan. A bedsheet would have been useful during the hot weather, it was too hot to use a quilt. Shame no downstairs bathroom.
Great location for a wander around the local shops, pubs and cafes and easy to park ??

Weekend at Stow House

Wed just like to extend our thanks and say how much we enjoyed our stay last weekend at Stow House. Prior to our arrival Bolthole Retreats were most concerned about issues caused by the previous occupants. These were very minor and had no bearing on our enjoyment, but we very much appreciated the concern shown.
Stow House is beautiful, stunningly appointed and with excellent facilities and proved to be perfect for our large family gathering. Its central location in Stow is also ideal, even if the road can be a little noisy. Parking in the vicinity can be challenging when its busy.
Rosie, the housekeeper was extremely helpful with our queries and also accommodating and flexible on the day we left, which was a huge help. We very much hope to return sometime and very much recommend Stow House.

Return visit

This was our 3rd stay at Stow House, and we loved it just as much as the first time. Its in a great location in the centre of Stow on the Wold, next door to The Old Butchers, our favourite restaurant! The house is really well equipped, clean and warm, and Rosie the housekeeper is exceptionally helpful. Bolthole Retreats seem very efficient and easy to deal with, and everything was just as expected. Definitely recommend a stay at Stow House!

Absolutely fabulous!

We have just had a few days staying at Stow House and I can honestly say everything was perfect.
Great house in a great town with everything on the doorstep.
The house was spotlessly clean, beds were comfy, super soft towels etc. Every little thing had been thought of and we have never stayed anywhere with such a well stocked kitchen - there was LOADS of everything.
Thank you Bolthole Retreats - as usual your service was exemplary - we will be back!

Beautiful house

Lovely house in a beautiful location. All very clean and tidy with comfortable beds and a nice layout of the house.

Stow House

A beautiful house located in a perfect location for a few days away.
We were a group of six (three couples) & our only criticism would be that if our other friends were able to have made the few days away with us, the lounge wouldnt have seated us all. The kitchen & dining areas had super large tables with ample seating.
Halima Gunn
Beautiful cottage in great location.

Stow House is a gorgeous property in central Stow. Stunning building and furnishings.
We had a lovely stay.
Weather sadly didnt allow us to use the garden but it also looked lovely.
Kitchen very well equipped with crockery, cutlery and glasses. Pan selection and other equipment was however a little lacking and disorganised. Worth checking if you plan to cook.
Some ongoing maintenance issues mainly regarding showers which were hopefully dealt with after our departure.
Communication was good.
Recommended subject to the above.

Comfortable house in a great location.

The Stow House was perfect for our stay in the Cotswolds. Our stay included a group of 2 families (4 adults, 4 children). The house was spacious, well equipped with adequate kitchen supplies, and comfortable. The outdoor terrace was relaxing and beautiful. The home is situated in the middle of town, with easy access to shopping, restaurants, and he well stopped small grocery store. Be aware that most all restaurants in town fill quickly with reservations (at least during our stay in August). Most restaurants were available for next day reservations (even for a table of 8), which we made for all of our evenings after arrival.

Perfect house in wonderful location.

Our party of eight have just returned from a visit to Stow House. This year we wanted to be somewhere centrally located for shops, restaurants and pubs, and Stow House was perfect. Literally minutes from all amenities, yet still close to all the other beautiful locations in the Cotswolds. The house itself is gorgeous, full of character features, but with modern facilities. The outside of the house belies its size, with plenty of room for the 9 people it can accommodate. Everyone said how comfortable the beds were, with high quality bedding and towels. The property was spotless and very well maintained, with every appliance you could hope for. The bottle of wine and welcome treats was a nice touch. All in all, a beautiful property and highly recommended.

Lovely cosy house for family weekend, right next to all the Stow-on-the-Wold has to offer. Great wee

Lovely house, very comfortable for large family group. Great communication, easy to find. Parking in road behind - can manage without the car unless you want to visit other parts of The Cotswolds.
Lots of equipment in the kitchen - the only improvements we could suggest is a bigger freezer, and a ground floor toilet
Bedrooms cosy and comfortable. Main suite at top of house with open plan bathroom not to everyone's choice, but a lovely big bedroom
Stow is beautiful, everything in your doorstep. Great pubs, we had delicious pizza takeaway from The Sheep and Greedys fish & chips also great
Sunday lunch at The Kings Arms great value but book ahead as it is very busy
Would definitely recommend and look forward to a return visit

Stow House Christmas Weekend

We had a fantastic weekend to celebrate Christmas with friends. Stow House was the perfect location; a cosy cottage right in the centre of beautiful Stow On The Wold. The house comfortably housed 8 adults, all of whom had an en-suite bathroom. The spacious and well equipped kitchen was more than sufficient for cooking Christmas dinner for 8 and the dining room big enough to seat us all. The only very minor points to consider are that parking is a bit restricted (one of our group struggled to find road side parking) and there isnt a huge amount of freezer space. I cant recommend this house highly enough, in fact were already considering booking it again for next year.

A perfect stay, in an amazing house

I booked Stow House for the weekend prior to my wedding in the Cotswolds and wow - it was everything we needed and more! As a family of 8, each room having an en-suite bathroom was honestly a life saver. The house was very well equipped with everything we needed in the kitchen and so incredibly clean. There were lovely communal spaces which worked really well as a large group, but also enough space for everyone to escape to when family time gets a bit much!! The location was perfect, right in the midst of the town without being loud at night.
An extra extra special thank you to the housekeeper Rosie - she went above and beyond for us. She was able to accommodate some last minute extra requests which were so appreciated. Communication with her was super easy, and she even went to the effort of posting back some items left at the property at her own expense. I could not thank her enough.
Could not recommend the house enough!

A beautiful house to get married from

We stayed at Stow house in the run up to our wedding and got ready and left from there the morning of the wedding. It was perfect, a home away from home.
Stow house is spacious with plenty of areas to relax and accommodate a large group staying there, the bedrooms are comfortable and all the amenities you need are provided.
If I was to suggest any improvements, extra lighting outside in the garden would be very useful. The storm candles were great but more light was needed to see where you were going. A stronger light system would be beneficial outside.
A bigger freezer is needed as we had brought with us bags of ice for drinks but had nowhere to store them as the freezer was really small.
If there was anyway of turning the downstairs cupboard into a W.C I think that would be beneficial also.
Nikki Bray
Wonderful!

We loved our stay at Stow House. It was very comfortable and well equipped and Bolthole retreats were very easy to book through. Would definitely recommend! Slightly odd having the free range loo in the master bedroom, otherwise a lovely house in a great village.

Stow House weekend

Great location; plenty of off street parking at the rear. Perfect for friends to get together. Oodles of glasses, crockery, mugs, cutlery etc. Great size dining room and kitchen. Linens and pillows were very good quality. The only minor downsides were only one tea towel (fortunately one of our group bought some from home with her) and a fire detector in the kitchen right above the oven and grill. Must have gone off at least 6 times, however it proved to be a talking point and much hilarity trying to stop the noise. Would recommend.

Stow house

Very comfortable, lovely bedrooms and bathrooms, kitchen very well equipped, and spacious, lovely sitting room, could do with better curtain or blinds as extra, all in all very cosy, we had a lovely holiday. Road is a bit noisy at night, and obviously no private parking for stow house. But very comfortable, and would love to return.

A gorgeous house in a fabulous location in this beautiful town.

We had a fabulous weekend at Stow House.
The property is immaculate, beautifully furnished and brilliantly well equipped with all the luxuries you could want.
Super comfortable beds with gorgeous linens in a great, central location in the centre of this lovely town.
We had one or two teething problems which the very conscientious owner sorted out quickly and with great care.
Would highly recommend.
