Overview
You’ll find Orchard Cottage down a quiet village lane that leads only to the church, St Margaret of Antioch. The cottage sits opposite the church and its pretty churchyard, with a gravel parking area to the front and side. It’s the kind of home a child might draw, with its double frontage and path leading up to the front door and two dormer windows above.
The outside view belies what’s inside: a spacious, three-bedroom holiday home. The ground floor has plenty of space for guests to spread out and have their own corner, with a fabulously equipped, central kitchen that has an island big enough to seat five for breakfast while one person cooks! Walk one way out of the kitchen to the living room, where there’s a lovely wood burning stove, or the other way into a sunny and botanical-themed dining room. Head back to the kitchen where you’ll find a utility area and cloakroom. On the first floor are three well-proportioned, individually styled bedrooms, each comfortably sleeping two guests, and two bathrooms (one ensuite).
To the rear of the cottage is an enclosed and secluded patio and a large garden that’s laid to lawn and surrounded by mature trees. The dining room and living room both have French windows that open out to the patio where guests will find a rattan sofa and dining table, and a separate bistro-style table and chairs for two. On a sunny day, the patio is flooded with sunshine from morning to early afternoon, while the garden is the place to head to for the afternoon and evening sunshine, which can be enjoyed from deckchairs. Or why not spread out with a picnic blanket and watch the children, or bigger kids, play some garden games? There’s plenty of space for a game of badminton or perhaps some croquet.
Ground Floor
Front Entrance:
Step through the front door into a handy little hallway with hooks for coats. Straight ahead are carpeted stairs with a looping rope handrail leading to the first floor while to the left is the living room and to the right is the kitchen. Throughout the ground floor there is beautiful oak flooring.
Kitchen & Breakfast Bar:
The striking and spacious family kitchen, with its unusual, pale-moss walls, is fully equipped from end-to-end with every appliance needed for a self-catering holiday. At the centre is a large island with a beautiful oak surface, providing a fabulous preparation area as well as a breakfast bar with five stools. To one side is a double sink with a boiling-water tap, a drinks station and a view across the lane to the church. To the other side a double oven, microwave, fridge and freezer sit within striking, charcoal grey units. To the rear of the kitchen a door opens to a utility room, the cloakroom and side door out to the parking area and garden, while another door opens to the dining room and an alternative route to the living room. The whole room has a feeling of openness and light, helped by the half wood-half-glass doors.
Utility Area:
The compact utility area houses a washer-dryer below a long wooden shelf. There are hooks for keys and dog leads and space for a doggie bed, bowl and treats. A door opens from here to the gravel drive. (This is the entrance most guests use to come and go.)
Cloakroom:
The cottage’s handy ‘little’ room has a toilet, wash basin and heated towel rail.
Dining Room:
At the back of the house is a pretty dining room, featuring soft, sage green walls and botanical prints, which pull the eye through to the garden beyond. A large, rectangular table with six chairs sits at the centre and French windows open out to the patio, making it easy to access for al fresco dining from both the kitchen and dining room.
Living Room:
The cosy living room features a contemporary inglenook fireplace with a wood burning stove set in a striking yellow ochre feature wall. The room is furnished with a long, L-shaped sofa and large footstool, a pine coffee table chest and a 55” smart TV. You’ll notice too, the horse artwork and horse head bust – a nod to the owners’ daughter who is a professional jump jockey. French windows open out to the patio and garden. On a warm, sunny day you can open all the doors in the living room and dining room and bring the outside in.
First Floor
Carpeted stairs with a looping, rope handrail lead up to the bedrooms and bathrooms:
Bedroom One:
This stylishly furnished and decorated master bedroom features a gorgeous, deep blue wall against which is a king-size bed on an oak frame, with bedside tables and glittering reading lamps to either side. The bedroom has a large wardrobe with hanging space and shelves, a dressing table with a mirror and stool and blanket chest tucked under the eaves.
Ensuite Shower Room:
The spa-like shower room features the same deep blue colourway, with polished limestone tiles and flooring. It has a walk-in shower, with rainfall and handheld shower heads, a washbasin with a mirror over and sensor lighting, a shaver point, a toilet, a heated towel rail and a custom-built, shaker-style storage unit. (Sensor lights come on at night, which avoids turning on the fan.)
Bedroom Two:
Another colourful bedroom, this time with a deep-green feature wall offset with a yellow ochre bedspread. The bedroom has a king-size bed on a white wood frame with bedside chest of drawers and striking bedside lamps featuring tiny woodpeckers, a wardrobe with hanging space and shelves and a full-length mirror. A comfy armchair is tucked into a hidden corner of the bedroom, with a reading lamp, creating a lovely space for some me-time.
Bedroom Three:
This delightful pink and grey, twin bedroom, with two full-size single beds, could equally suit two children or two friends sharing. Each bed has a bedside table and reading lamp, with concealed plugs and USB ports in the storage basket below. A hanging rail with a shoe shelf sits behind the door while a chest of drawers with a makeup mirror provides storage for clothes and personal items.
All the bedrooms have a super-soft, deep pile, silver grey carpet.
Family Bathroom:
The immaculate bathroom features a J-shaped bath with rainfall and handheld shower heads and polished limestone tiles and flooring. There’s a toilet, washbasin in a vanity unit, a rotating mirror next to a shaver point and a lovely view out over the patio and garden. Sensor lights come on at night, which avoids the fan turning on and disturbing sleeping guests.
Outside
To the rear of the cottage is a large patio with sofa seating, a dining table, and a bistro-style table with two chairs. Head up three stone steps from the patio to a deceptively large garden that’s laid to lawn, with surrounding trees and bushes. Enjoy the afternoon and evening sunshine sat out on the deckchairs or stretch your legs and play some garden games. The patio and garden can be accessed through the dining room and living room (or via a side gate from the parking area), making it easy to take out drinks and food for al fresco dining. The area is secured with fencing and a gate and is therefore dog and child friendly. The cottage has off-road parking to the front and side of the cottage, with room for three cars.

Lovely stay! Family who came up from Cornwall to celebrate my 30th with me will happily book again on their next visit!

Enjoyable family weekend break.

We stayed at Orchard Cottage as a family of four adults and two young children. The cottage is in a quiet location in a village. The cottage was clean and comfortable. It was well equipped for our stay and we even made use of the log burner as the weather was turning chilly. The wet wet weather didn't stop us getting out and about as the cottage was well situated for visiting Bourton On The Water, Stowe and other Cotswolds locations. The Gardener's Arms is the local pub and only a few minutes walk away. We received a warm welcome and enjoyed a lovely meal at the pub. Due to the time of year, we had to find our way back using mobile phone lights as there are no street lights. This added to the children's enjoyment. The break was over all too soon but we very much enjoyed our stay and would recommend Orchard Cottage and would return in the future.

Beautiful retreat

A lovely, comfortable, well equipped cottage. Spotlessly clean and very welcoming.
A second television would have been welcome, we dont always want to watch the same programs!
Also non slip shower mats would be useful, the shower was very slippery and could be dangerous for anyone a little unsteady.

A family long weekend with baby and dog

I stayed at Orchard Cottage for a long weekend with my husband, daughter, her partner, their 7 month old baby and our dog. It was absolutely perfect in every way. A very spacious, comfortable and excellently equipped cottage. The garden was enclosed so fantastic for the dog. We had a superb Sunday lunch at the local pub and visited some of the beautiful towns and villages, all located within a 20 mile radius. There were plenty of lovely walks on the doorstep for the dog. We all had a wonderful time.

Perfect get away

Great cottage, very well equipped. Looks small when looking at the front of the cottage but was a very spacious inside, ideal for the 6 adults staying. We loved hearing the church bell on Sunday morning.
Great to have parking for 3 cars.
Supermarket a short drive away and a great pub within walking distance.
It was a great cottage for 6 school friends to have their yearly weekend away. We will definitely look at staying here again

Excellent Cottage and great location

We really enjoyed our stay at Orchard cottage. The cottage has been beautifully renovated to a very high standard and has everything you could possibly want a true home from home the little village the cottage is situated in is really quaint and everybody was really friendly. I would recommend stopping by the pub for a drink or bite to eat. The location of the cottage was ideal for exploring the cowls and I would definitely recommend.

ALL ROUND GREAT

Stayed here with 3 couples over New Year and it was perfect. Everything you want from a weekend in the Cotswolds. Decent pub 5 minutes walk away, opposite a beautiful church, log burning fire, nice well equipped kitchen and a sofa actually big enough to sit 6 people on. The bedrooms were very comfortable with good mattresses and the bathrooms very modern. Parking for 3 cars too. Honestly a real little gem and I am jealous of the owners having this as their future retirement home.

A beautiful place to stay!

Orchard Cottage is gorgeously furnished and equipped with everything you could need for a home from home stay. Beautifully clean and very comfortable, its in a very scenic spot overlooking a church. The cottage is tastefully decorated with lots of extras that make it such a homely & comfortable place to stay. Its in a good location with walks in the immediate area and great access to all the most popular Cotswolds attractions. We had a wonderful pre-Christmas break at Orchard Cottage. Thank you.

Wonderful house, in a lovely location

Really wonderful house, with plenty of living space and 3 spacious bedrooms. It was spotlessly clean and had everything you could ever need for a trip away. There was plenty of off road parking space and its located on a very quiet lane in a lovely little village. There's a good pub serving food within 5 minutes walk and a village shop too.
Would highly recommend this property. We will definitely book again.

This is the first time we have booked a property through Bolthole Retreats & I was very impressed with them, they were very informative & would not hesitate to book through them again.

A very comfortable stay

Lovely cottage. Comfortably sleeps 6 and has all the seating, dining space and garden furniture that you could possibly need for 6 adults. Well equipped with plenty of cutlery, crockery, glasses and cooking utensils.

Spacious and beautiful

Orchard cottage has to be one of the nicest places weve stayed at. Beautiful smell of cleanliness when we arrived. Deceptively spacious cottage. 6 adults and a baby and we never felt on top of each other. Very well equipped, everything youd need, home from home. Spacious secure garden for the dogs, very comfortable furnishings, both downstairs and beds. The owners are very responsive, and sent a lovely text on the day of arrival to say we could check in early as they had completed their cleaning. Location is very central for Winchcombe, beautiful little village, Bourton on the water, Stow on the Wold to name but a few. We will definitely be back.
Thank you for having us in your beautiful home.
Helen Edwards
Excellent well located cottage

A lovely comfortable property in a pretty village and within easy driving distance of Winchcombe Broadway and other towns/villages.

Beautiful holiday cottage

We had a great week at Orchard Cottage. Lovely little village with a great pub and dog friendly too. Very pretty little church opposite. The cottage was beautifully presented, very clean, super comfy beds and had everything we needed. We hope to return for another stay. Recommend the Gardeners Arms in the village and the Royal Oak in Gretton.

Short stay break

We have recently returned from a 4 night break at this cottage and cannot recommend highly enough. It is very quiet, immaculately looked after and very close to local walks and a short (safe!) walk to the local pub that is dog friendly and provides discount for guests. This really is first class accommodation.

Fantastic stay

Our first time in the Cotswolds and Orchard Cottage ticked all the boxes. Great location to explore the surrounding area, well equipped house and a 10 min walk to the pub which was lovely too. Idyllic, peaceful setting right beside the church - we loved hearing the bells chime daily and we're treated to bell ringing practice mid week from the garden.

Fantastic Cottage

What an amazing cottage, we couldnt have asked for more! Everything was spot on from the wonderful kitchen (even supplying spices and herbs) to the outside hose for washing the dogs after lovely long walks in the area.
Would absolutely recommend this beautiful home to anyone planning to visit this part of the country - just amazing!
Thank you to the owners for letting us enjoy your wonderful property.
Linda Wilson
Fantastic short break with our puppy

Orchard Cottage is one of the nicest places weve stayed - everything for guests comfort and enjoyment has been considered and we had a wonderful break. Hope to be back one day.

Review of Orchard cottage

Orchard cottage is a home from home. There are some lovely walks in and around Alderton. However for things to do other than walking, you need to travel a bit further afield. Throught our stay, the church opposite had bells ringing over night.
Charlotte Townsend
New years stay

Lovely clean cottage ,plenty of space for 5 adults and a small dog. Kitchen was really well equipped with everything you could need. Good quality bedding and towels , which we appreciated .Unfortunately the weather wasnt very kind to us so didnt get to explore the area as much as we would have liked but plenty of places to visit within a short drive .

Wonderful Christmas Stay

We booked for Christmas week. A lovely cottage very clean and modern decent sized garden which the dogs loved. We had Christmas Dinner at the local pub The Gardeners which was very good. Thoroughly enjoyed our week here and seeing some of the Cotswolds.

Family winter weekend

We had a Lovely weekend stay at Orchard Cottage. The property was spotlessly clean and so well equipped. The layout was superb and the enclosed garden was great for our dog to roam in safety. The local pub (Gardeners Arms) was very welcoming with great food. I would thoroughly recommend the property and would stay again.

Family weekend

We have recently stayed at Orchard cottage, a family of five adults and two dogs. There was plenty of room for everyone in this beautiful cottage. The cottage provided everything we needed, from comfortable beds, luxurious bedding and an extremely well fitted kitchen. We used the local pub for a Sunday roast takeaway, it was delicious. We would have no hesitation in returning to Orchard cottage if we were looking to stay in this area again.
Mary Lancaster
Lovely Cottage

A beautiful cottage in a really convenient location, we have loved our weekend away with family. The only thing I could find fault with is the pillows in the room next to the family bathroom are quite flat and lumpy but apart from that, pretty much faultless. Lovely and clean, cosy but spacious and really comfy beds. Perfect, we will 100% be back, thank you 🙂
Claire McConnell
A little gem

Myself and 3 girlfriends enjoyed a two night stay in this beautiful house, just wished we had booked for longer as its a perfect location to explore the Cotswolds. The cottage is well equipped with everything you need, the kitchen is to die for. Id move in tomorrow given the chance. Our only criticism, and its only a small one, is the lack of soft lighting in the lounge. With only one lamp at the far end of the room, we found it too dark and sitting with the main lights on too bright. We would highly recommend staying here and wouldnt hesitate in booking again.
Claire Ball
Fantastic cottage

We stayed for a weekend with friends and had a brilliant time. Fantastically well equipped for everything we needed and more. Spotlessly clean, super comfy beds, very well maintained. Highly recommend.

Perfect stay

First impressions WOW, its beautiful. The whole cottage was spotless, literally home from home.
The design colours in each room were lovely a real lot of thought has gone into each room.
It turned into a nasty wet afternoon, evening and the log burner brightened it up.
Thank you so much for a wonderful weekend with family in such a wonderful cottage, we will be back.
Karen Burroughs
A charming cottage in a peaceful attractive location.

Orchard Cottage ticks all the boxes! It had all that we needed and more. Spotlessly clean, excellently and thoughtfully equipped and with generous sized bath towels. The location is perfect with pretty outlook over the lovely church and churchyard. Good parking space and an easy walk to the village shop which had everything we required and a good local pub as well. Charming neighbours too! We shall be back.
Simon Coates
Lovely property in a great location

Perfect place for four adults and a dog to spend a week exploring the Cotswolds. Spotlessly clean and very comfortable with very new appliances. A great cottage, would recommend to all
Sarah Freeman
Wow, this place is amazing

This place is stunning. Exceptionally clean and comfortable with everything that is required for a stay at the cottage. It has been tastefully refurbished and everything seems like new. We would stay here again if visiting this part of the Cotswolds .

A hidden gem

Hidden away in a pretty, rose filled village is Orchard Cottage. Opposite a lovely Saxon church, the cottage is a gem. It looks great in the photos but is even better in real life. Beautifully styled yet extremely practical, Orchard Cottage was the perfect spot for a family birthday celebration. Pub for the grown ups and play park for our toddling granddaughter. All the baby equipment was really useful and key decider on choosing this cottage.
A lovely sun filled patio and garden to laze about in. Peaceful and quiet....though close enough to little towns too for exploring, eating or shopping.
We can't fault it and hope to go back again.
Michael Jones
Fantastic property for out stay. The whole property done out to a very high standard.

Orchard Cottage is a fantastic property. It is fitted out and decorated to an extremely high standard with comfort at an optimum. It is spacious, easily accommodating our family of six. It is in a pretty and quiet location. There are many interesting places to visit, easily accessible from the village.

We really enjoyed staying at this lovely cottage.

It was very clean with a well equipped kitchen and excellent showers in the modern bathrooms. There was plenty of outdoor seating with a good lawn area for our dog to run round safely. Overall its the best cottage weve stayed at.

Weekend Away

We stayed at Orchard Cottage recently and even though we didn't get to enjoy the weekend & house how we should have - we had a hospital emergency - I would 100% recommend this to anyone for a weekend away. The house was perfect, lots of space and had everything you needed. The location was great and easy to get to anywhere in The Cotswolds. Also, the host could not have been more kind/ caring when finding out about our emergency, they even offered a room in their own house when we had to check out which was just so lovely and meant a lot.
Shannen Hill
Perfect escape at Orchard Cottage

A wonderful cottage with everything you could possibly need, beautifully decorated, warm and cosy, easy check in/out. Really informative welcome book, altogether a perfect escape for rest and relaxation.

A charming cottage.

Recently enjoyed a lovely 2 night stay here with friends. We had a dog and infant with us so, can attest that it is friendly and accommodating to both!
The whole cottage is wonderful: the living room is a fantastic size and retains its cosiness whilst being large enough to be comfortable; the kitchen was well equipped with everything needed when cooking to entertain: the stocked spice rack was a lovely, extra touch; all the bedrooms were comfortable and beautifully decorated. The whole cottage has a lovely finish and feels very thoughtfully done - even down to the automatic bathroom light for an easy night-time visit!
There are some lovely walks immediately from the cottage - these were a real hit with Albus the Dachshund! Although we didnt need them, it was also really welcoming to see the dog essentials in the utility cupboard too. So useful and welcoming if we had been caught out. The garden is a fantastic size. Wet weather prevented us really using it but, lots of space for dogs and children to run around. Im sure the patio area is wonderful in Summer.
Overall, we had a really lovely stay. The ample parking makes it great for a group to stay - with dogs and children being allowed means its so versatile. Whilst still at the cottage, we were discussing dates we could return in 2023!

Luxury Weekend Stay

Excellent property full of quality furnishings and super decor. All the mod cons required for a comfortable stay. Will certainly consider in the future for a return stay.
Nigel Heasman
Beautiful place to stay

Everything seemed brand new. Beautiful kitchen that had everything you would need. The fittings and furnishings throughout the accommodation were high quality. The fully enclosed garden made it perfect for our dog, dog bowls, biscuits and dog towels were very thoughtful additions. We were all impressed and plan to return.
The food at the village pub was excellent.
Andrew Rowe
Lovely few days away!

The cottage was excellent for a few days away. Beautiful location, next to the church. So lovely to hear the bells chime! Very quiet and friendly village and great location for lovely walks over to Dumbleton and surrounding area. Within easy reach of many of the pretty Cotswold towns.
Lesley Brodie
Great location and quality property

This is an excellent rental property if you are looking to visit north Cotswolds.
Located down a dead end lane opposite the beautiful C14th gothic church and in a quite village with occasional local shop and village pub.
Walking from the doorstep and a large secure garden attracted us to the property, as we have a dog and enjoy regular walks.
This is the cleanest and best appointed cottage we have stayed in, and seems to be newly decorated as there are no scuffs or marks on the paintwork. We lived in the kitchen when in as it has all you need to cook eat and enjoy family company.
We would definitely come back again as a family of 4 with children (14&16) and dog.

Summer break in Cotswolds

Lovely cottage in a peaceful location. Despite the soaring temperatures the house was pleasantly cool. Plenty of decent places to eat locally and lovely walks from the doorstep.

I cant speak highly enough about this place it is exactly as advertised, if your looking for a staycation book this cottage you will not be disappointed, the owners should be very proud.
