Overview
As you pull onto the expansive gravel drive there is a pleasing sense of arrival and the anticipation of staying somewhere rather special, for The Hunting Lodge at Ragley Estate is Grade II listed and dates to the 16th century. Many original features remain giving it bags of character and charm, but this delightful house also boasts all the creature comforts needed to put fun and relaxation centre stage.
Step inside and you’ll find flagstone floors, huge windows with meadow views at every turn, ancient beams, and open fires. The huge dining room table is the place for convivial meals by firelight, whilst two living rooms offer space to relax and be sociable or simply curl up with a good book and enjoy some quiet time. The games room with a table football set provides endless competitive entertainment. Two ground floor bedrooms offer flexible living arrangements, whilst on the first floor, there are five further bedrooms, three of which have ensuite bathrooms, and a family bathroom with a gorgeous claw foot bathtub.
Outside you will find a space as delightful as the ones inside. A whimsical swing hangs from a mature tree in the front garden, and when you wander through the wrought iron gate on the side of the house, the full scale of the far-reaching views hits you. Rolling fields and tree-clad hills form the backdrop for two and a half acres of garden, which is yours to enjoy. Spread a picnic blanket in the old orchard and listen to the birds, let the children run free making magic and adventures in the playhouse or just head for the wood-fired hot tub and relax amongst the bubbles. There is parking for up to 8 cars on the private driveway.
Ground Floor
Entrance Hall:
The covered porch shelters the old wooden front door, which opens into the original entrance hall. Old timbers form the ceiling and there’s a high-sided bench, where you can perch to take off shoes and boots, a star glass light fitting and a console table with a large mirror hanging over it. From the entrance hall, you can go left into the second of two living rooms and the main living area of the house. Alternatively, there are four steps on the right which lead to the games room, a boot room, and one of the ground-floor bedrooms.
Snug/Living Room:
With two comfy three-seater sofas, lots of floor space and an open fire this is an ideal room to allocate for children as a playroom. It’s also a great space for a little quiet time, where you can light the fire and curl up on the sofa beneath the huge window with a good book. Reading lamps ensure there is plenty of light and occasional tables mean there is always somewhere to rest a drink.
Living Room:
The main living room is an elegant and stylish room with two plump sage-green sofas, and a cream wing-back swivel chair set around a rustic wooden coffee table and the feature stone fireplace, which also boasts a club fender seat. There’s a large Smart TV and multi-pane windows looking out to the rear garden beyond. Gather here for evening drinks whilst little ones play next door.
Inner Hall:
Linking the two parts of the house, the inner hall boasts the same original flagstones seen throughout, there’s a door to the rear garden and the staircase to the first floor.
Dining Room:
With flagstone floors, ancient oak beams lining the walls and marching across the ceiling, plus a huge fireplace with a wood-burning stove and charming fender seat, the dining room is atmospheric and filled with character. Lay the long table and gather your nearest and dearest together for wonderful meals.
Bedroom Six:
This ground-floor bedroom is a pretty super-king (can be twin beds on request) overlooking the rear garden. A large rug on the flagstones adds splashes of colour to the room's pale greys and neutral tones, and the original beams add character and charm. There are bedside tables with reading lamps and a double wardrobe and a two-drawer chest of drawers for storage. Please note whilst there is a ground floor cloak room through the kitchen, guests staying in the room should be aware the main family bathroom is on the first floor.
Kitchen:
Filled with character, the kitchen is packed with original features including flagstone floors, exposed beams, and there’s even a cream AGA tucked into the old fireplace. Everything else is 21st century however including a range cooker with ceramic hob, two dishwashers, a microwave, and a freestanding fridge-freezer. There’s plenty of crockery and glasses, plus enough pots and pans to cook up a feast. There’s a door to the front garden and a ground-floor cloakroom with a W.C and hand basin.
Games Room:
Turn left and walk up four steps from the main entrance hall and you’ll find the games room with a table football set. At the far end is a utility area with a washing machine, tumble dryer, iron, and ironing board. There’s also a second fridge for additional food or maybe for keeping drinks cool, and a kettle so guests staying in the ground floor bedroom at this end of the house can make themselves a morning cuppa.
Boot Room:
This useful space has a door to the rear and would be a great way to bring wet doggies in to dry off before going through the rest of the house. It also gives easy access to the outside for guests staying in bedroom seven.
Bedroom Seven:
Up one step is the second of the ground floor bedrooms, set up as a super-king room (can also be configured as a twin on request). Exposed stone walls and old beams create a warm and welcoming place to stay. Bedside tables with reading lamps stand on either side of the beds and coat hooks with wooden hangers enable you to properly unpack. There’s also a chest of drawers with a large mirror over it, and windows to the front provide natural light.
Ensuite:
The ensuite to bedroom seven features a large step-in shower cubicle with two shower heads, one of which is hand-held. There’s a vanity unit with a rectangular hand basin and a W.C. A lead-paned window looks over the side and the slightly vaulted ceiling is lined with beams.
First Floor
Stairs with a wooden handrail lead to the first floor, halfway up there’s a large window with lovely rural views.
Bedroom One:
The master bedroom lies at one end of the hall and is a light and spacious room with pale grey wallpaper and a window looking over the entrance to the countryside beyond. A built-in wardrobe fills one wall providing plenty of storage, whilst there’s also a large sideboard with drawers. A king-size bed faces the window and is flanked by bedside tables with reading lamps. Two soft yellow button-back easy chairs sit by the window.
Ensuite:
Carved out from one end of the bedroom is an ensuite bathroom with a step-in shower cubicle, W.C and a circular hand basin with twin mirrors above.
Bedroom Two:
This spacious room is perfect for families with a super-king size bed (can be a twin on request) and two single box beds. Please note due to space the box beds are only made up if requested. A huge window overlooks the rear garden offering wonderful rural views of the rolling hills beyond, while a double wardrobe and chest of drawers provide storage.
Bedroom Three:
Down four steps at the other end of the hallway lies a pretty, super-king size room with an abundance of character, including some low beams so please mind your head, and it would be easy to while away the hours just gazing at the view over the rear garden. There are bedside tables with reading lamps on either side of the bed and a three-drawer chest of drawers, along with wall hooks and wooden hangers to provide storage.
Ensuite:
Up two steps, behind a brace and latch door (the door has low headroom so please be careful) lies a cunningly hidden ensuite, with a large step-in shower cubicle with an electric shower, W.C and a handbasin. The room has natural light from the side window looking over the garden, it could be described as a loo with a rural view!
Bedroom Four:
Opposite bedroom three sits bedroom four a light and airy room with a super-king size bed (can be twin beds on request). There’s plenty of space to relax, a chest of drawers for storage and wall hooks with wooden hangers. The occasional chair is a peaceful spot to sit and ponder the pretty countryside view. This room is perfect for families as bedroom five is accessed from this room too.
Bedroom Five:
Accessed from bedroom four this is a cosy twin room and views to the front and side of the house. There’s a shared night table between the two beds with a reading lamp, a chest of drawers and wall hooks with wooden coat hangers.
Bathroom / Shower Room:
The main family bathroom is spacious and features a separate step-in shower cubicle with an electric shower, standalone claw-foot bath, WC and hand basin with a large mirror over. There’s a handy shelf alongside the bath for resting a book, and views over the front of the house from the large window.
Outside
To the front of The Hunting Lodge at Ragley Estate is a lawned garden with mature trees and planting. The full glory of this holiday home's garden is revealed when you walk through the wrought-iron gate to the side. Sitting on two and a half acres of grounds, there’s a large patio with outside dining, a gas barbecue, and a hot tub. In front of you is a large lawn, perfect for outside games, a delightful playhouse and a wooden climbing set. A weathered, low brick wall provides a border to the fields beyond and there’s an old orchard, hidden away through a gap in the hedge. For outdoor space, this garden takes some beating. There is a large gravel drive that can accommodate parking for up to eight cars.

Beware

A lovely property- problems occurred which were massively inconvenient including my elderly mother .
There were 11 adults staying in all. One bedroom is only accessible through another. The temperature control of the main bathroom shower was dangerous- very very hot or not hot enough. The hand basin too high for a child.
We were given the wrong key safe code and unable to get in meaning my mum was unable to eat or use the toilet and was cold outside.
Also given incorrect WiFi login information and only rectified by one of us ages later. Very unsatisfactory and an unpleasant day 1 which was spoilt.

Clean, well presented and exactly like described. Lots of space for a big family gathering.

The perfect family escape!

The most amazing building, full of history and character. Very well equipped, amazing views from every window. Lovely walks from the front door, great hosts making sure you are OK. We had a Tesco delivery (add the W3Ws reference to your order) which was great. Lovely spaces within the house, to be together as a group or have some time on your own. Don't miss out on the hot tub, it was amazing! Thank you so much for having us, hopefully we will be back one day!!

Perfect for our large family get together

This is a lovely property with plenty of room for our 14 members of family. Very well equipped and the beds were super comfy. It was also very clean. Lovely wine and cake on arrival which was very well received!
The location is stunning especially the views from the fabulous garden.
I would say that overall it needs some TLC , some of the floors are very uneven and we had to take care on the stairs going through to games room which also leads to one of the downstairs bedrooms. We originally planned on putting our elderly parents in this bedroom but couldnt risk them falling so they ended up in an upstairs bedroom.
Also my sister and brother in law kept banging their head on the ceiling in their en-suite so could do with a warning sign in there.
None of these stopped us having a wonderful family weekend together.
I would definetly recommend this house for a large group!

Fabulous base for a large family group

This is an ideal venue for a family or large group of friends, with lots of space to spread out and not feel like you are always on top of one another. All the rooms are very comfortably and tastefully furnished and the house is very well equipped and was impeccably clean. The hot tub and pool table are a real bonus! (Just be aware that the hot tub is woodfired and so takes a good four hours to heat up from cold.)
All the bedrooms have very good quality bedding - though some will find the beds are much too soft and the bathrooms have beautifully soft towels.
There is a large patio and huge garden (though be aware that the childrens play equipment in the photos is no longer there - but the Wendy house gave our grandkids loads of fun!) and there are wonderful views over the surrounding open countryside. The property was a little difficult to find initially (its at the end of a lane that looks like it goes to nowhere), so we recommend using what3words to locate it.
We really enjoyed our stay and there is lots to visit in the surrounding area. Highly recommended is Warwick Castle.

Comfy beds, great hot tub, a few shortcomings.

We rented The Hunting Lodge to gather my family to celebrate a special birthday. With guests ranging from my 91 year old Mum to my 2 year old grandson, it was a challenge to find somewhere that provided facilities to cater for all, but in general The Hunting Lodge fitted the bill. The beds were very comfortable made up with quality linen, plenty of big and thick towels, each bedroom was comfortable and personal and made up to the bed configuration that wed requested. The furniture was of a high standard and comfortable, and the table football gave hours of entertainment!
Outside, the garden was a real asset - safe for the dogs and grandchildren - they all loved the playhouse! The hot tub was surprisingly efficient, spotlessly clean, and once warm, kept its heat extremely well.
Downsides - Id chosen this property as I wanted a downstairs en-suite room for my elderly but fit and independent Mum. It wasnt entirely clear in the description nor on the floor plan that stairs up to the games room from the entrance hall are narrow treaded and steep. Fortunately Mum managed these with support the first couple of times and then got used to them, but just be aware its not truly a downstairs room.
There are two lounges - one is a walk-through, but the only indoor room that was big enough for our entire group to sit together was the dining room. Fortunately we were blessed with mostly good weather & we spent a lot of time outside on the patio. It was a shame there were no outdoor lounging chairs provided, as this would have made the outdoor space even more of an asset.
The house is next door to what appears to be a closed courtyard commercial area. Nothing was active or open so the house remained totally private, but it was all a bit weird, especially as Mums room and the boot room overlooked this and an outside door opened on to it.
Finally, the fridge freezer in the kitchen was not working properly during our stay. This was an inconvenience as we had to store all food in the much smaller fridge freezer in the games room kitchen - which is quite a trek when preparing a meal! I reported this on the first morning of our stay, but received no reply until the day after we had left.
Overall a comfortable house for a weekend stay, charmingly quirky, but needs a little tlc.

An amazing house in beautiful setting.

We all loved the Lodge, it exceeded expectations, inside and out. Beautiful view from the garden, hot tub was a bonus. Beds were comfy, decor was spot on. Only 15 mins from Evesham Station so we could pick up family from London. Really enjoyed the 3 mile, mainly cross country walk to the Arrow Mill. The only thing we'd add (cook's request!) would be a hand whisk, scales, and food processor - and maybe a measuring jug for cocktails! All 16 of us had a fabulous time, and have already rebooked for next year. Thanks so much for renting out such a gem!

A pleasant stay with all you need

Overall a nice period property with many features and character. For getting family together or a large group it has everything you need.
We felt that the property would benefit from improved signage for the road and whist it had everything we needed some could do either updating or improving to bring it up to the next level.
Property was very clean throughout and with nice welcoming touches. It offers value for what is provided.
Paul Nightingale
I booked the property for a group of 16 friends for a ladies weekend away for 3 nights Friday - Monday . Beautiful setting, very private, peaceful just down a short driveway. Ample parking for several cars. Most bedrooms could be split into single beds leaving only 2 Super king beds which were so big you hardly knew you were sharing!! Lots of space downstairs /2 living rooms and huge dining tables which easily sat all 16 of us. Small extra kitchen off the games room was perfect for our bar area. 2 Dishwashers were a bonus for a large group. Best part was the stunning views, huge garden, and seating area and of course the hot tub.

Family gathering at The Hunting Lodge

The Hunting Lodge was an ideal setting for a 3 generational gathering. We were lucky to have glorious weather so made good use of the enormous garden for playing football, relaxing and enjoying each others company around the fire pit in the evenings. The beautiful countryside and walks nearby were perfect and encouraged some of our group to explore. The house is spacious and catered for 14 easily. Being able to split beds into twin beds accommodated teenagers in the group. Its an easy drive into Stratford-on-Avon and nearby Alcester.
For a similar gathering I would recommend you bring some favourite board games if the weather is rainy. All of our family thoroughly enjoyed staying at the lodge.
Joan Hughes
Lovely spacious house with lovely enclosed large garden. Walks from the doorstep through fields & woodland.

Stunning Property

Its a stunning property, well worth a stay. Quiet, private & very safe if you have children or dogs. Plenty of parking which was ideal for our party as friends came from all directions.
The property is well looked after and is fully equipped with what you need for a property that sleeps 16 ie, 2 toasters, 2 dishwashers, 2 kettles plus an aga & range electric cooker.
We would consider staying again at the property.

Family stay at The Hunting Lodge

A beautiful and secluded property with multiple cosy communal rooms inside and lots of outdoor space. The property was clean, the beds were comfortable and lots of wood was provided for us to be able to enjoy fires in the evenings. Lots of useful information was accessible online and texted to us in advance of our stay. One point to note is that the hot tub is wood fired and takes a bit of planning to heat up - I hadn't spotted this in the booking information but the effort was worthwhile as the younger members of our group enjoyed using it.

A beautiful house

Our party of 16 stayed here over Christmas and all enjoyed the beautiful house and gardens to the full. The property has an abundance of character and charm and is both spacious and cosy. The kitchen was well stocked with all the necessary crockery, utensils and other equipment necessary to manage a large party and the two dish washers made life far easier. Having a number of smaller rooms in which to sit and chat, it made mixing and relaxing both easy, whilst the large dining area was perfect for all to get together. The kinds of things might worry about at this time of year were all fully mitigated. The house was continuously warm, there was never a shortage of hot water and there were facilities to have a number of open fires, though we never felt the need to do so.

Beautiful house, Great location

The House was beautiful, excellent for our family weekend away. Big table for dining and comfortable lounge area. Great kitchen everything you need, nice welcome Cake which was lovely.
Fab location near Stratford so ideal for sightseeing and for the Cotswolds.
It was hard to locate the house when we arrived as there is no sign on the main road and it is tucked away. Wifi is sketchy but this was not important to us.
The hot tub does take a long time to heat up if you want to use it start early.
Overall a great stay.

Familly Break

Overall a great stay. A good spot for day trips and walks. A slight issue with some cluster flies but Alison was very responsive in offering a solution. We would recommend and stay here again.

Gorgeous home!

The property was absolutely stunning and so comfortable - especially the beds! The hot tub was a great touch and it was lovely that dogs were allowed.

A Very Good Weekend Away

The marks above reflect a very good experience for our family. The condition was good with only a couple of minor issues. The comment on value Is difficult to answer as we would would always like to pay less but it was good value.

An excellent holiday rental

A spacious and comfortable house which met almost all of our needs.
It was clean and the equipment was high quality. A multigenerational family were very happy.
Attractive countryside location

Amazing house!

I took a group of golfers to this property for 3 nights. What an amazing house... it suited us because most of the beds can be split into twins. Talking of beds, incredibly comfy and super bedding! Plenty of bathrooms with super fluffy towels. The kitchen was well equipped {although the chocolate cake in the welcome pack did not last very long!} and having two lounges was fab. Oodles of parking too!
I could not recommend it highly enough!
Julia Tarr
A very beautiful house and environment.

We had a three generational holiday and everything was perfect. The house is beautiful and all the furniture and fittings are of very high quality. The surrounding grounds are wonderful for walking and the dogs were living their best lives. So were we!

Perfect venue for big family celebrations

With a large family gathering we were looking for a property sleeping 15 people...The Hunting Lodge on the Ragley Estate was perfect. Booking was straight forward and confirmation sent quickly. We all gathered and were delighted with the house which was spotlessly clean and well equipped. The Hot Tub was a great success and the very large garden perfect for a family cricket match. The beds were all exceptionally comfortable and the showers efficient. our 4 night stay for a 'big' birthday celebration proved all we had hoped for ...... only a couple of small points, for such a large property may be a few more board games for rainy days? (we managed to win some at the garden fete at nearby Coughton Court which was useful) We almost ran out of toilet rolls so a few more would have been helpful. But we all enjoyed the bottle of buddly and delicious sponge cake on arrival and we came away a very happy group.

Relaxing stay in stunning surroundings

Our family ranging, from eleven to 75 years old, had a fabulous few days here. The house is beautifully presented and comfortable, especially the beds. We had three dogs and six kids under fifteen and they all enjoyed the superb garden. The eco hot tub took a little work to get hot, but was so worth it. The surrounding area is very pretty, and the local town Alcester, has many independent shops, and a small Waitrose. Wed definitely like to visit the Hunting Lodge again.
Sharon Graves
A great place for a 3 generation get together.

The lodge was full of character, clean, spacious, warm and attractively furnished. The beds were comfortable and could be twins or large doubles. The housekeeper was very helpful and friendly when I needed to contact her beforehand.

Excellent stay

Very comfortable, warm and luxurious house. By far the nicest house we've ever rented as a group! Issues raised by our group were about water pressure in the showers, and the fact that the hot tub takes FAR longer to heat up than the guidebook suggests. It says half an hour to 2 1/2 hours - we found that after 7 hours of constant fire-stoking it was still tepid, which was such a shame. We would recommend getting it going ASAP!
Gemma Dracup
Comfortable stay

Lovely, well decorated house. Nice garden. Very comfortable beds. Quiet location. Good selection of kitchen items. Would stay here again.

Fantastic Find

What a wonderful house. My family and I celebrated new year at The Lodge and could not fault it all. It was so clean and well stocked with everything that we could ask for. Even a welcome pack with wine and cake was awaiting us on arrival, Would thoroughly recommend The Hunting Lodge

An amazing stay at the perfect house.

We booked the house as a group of 16 ladies who were away to celebrate a 30th birthday. The house offered us everything we needed and was both lovely to look at and a great size for the group. The two front rooms are great as they offered lots of space for different groups of people, and the kitchen facilities were great. I've stayed in large groups before and the extra toasters, kettles and dishwashers that the hunting lodge has really does make a difference first thing in the morning!
It was excellent value for money, and the perfect gateway to the Cotswolds location.
Bethany Lanckmans
Lovely countryside retreat!

The Hunting Lodge is a beautiful house, with a stunning countryside setting. The house itself has been furnished amazingly. The only negative we have is that although a wood fired hot tub is lovely, its quite large so took about 7 hours to heat up and you need to be at the house to keep the fire alight. Otherwise, it was perfect. Thank you!

Few days at Radley estate

Property was lovely, clean and in a good location. Customer service could be a little better as when I asked if we could potentially check in earlier I was told to check with the cleaner in a rather blunt tone

Perfect family stay

Our family, like many has now got to the size where we can't all stay together in any of our homes, so to find The Hunting Lodge on The Ragley Estate that could accommodate all 13 of us for a planned week away together was brilliant! The location was perfect - not only because the house itself is surrounded by open countryside with plenty of easily accessible walking for the dogs, but also for getting out and about - with several National Trust properties just a short drive and Stratford upon Avon and Warwick within easy reach. We walked across the fields to Alcester which is a charming market town with some lovely independent shops & pubs. The house itself is extremely comfortable and caters well for a large party with plenty of seating in the dining and lounging areas. Crockery and glasses aplenty in the well equipped kitchen and we were eternally grateful for the 2 dishwashers! We were blessed with some wonderful weather and all enjoyed the hot tub and the outdoor seating area - including the BBQ - and the Wendy House and swings and slide was a real hit with the youngest member of our party. Memories of a holiday we will treasure for a long time - we would definitely return.

Short family break

Our group of twelve had a lovely weekend at the lodge with a good choice of comfy bedrooms. We used the large hottub and Saturday evening we sat outside to watch the firework display in the distance at Ragely Hall while sat around the firepit to keep warm.

Lovely house, full of character

We really enjoyed our long weekend at the Hunting Lodge. Clearly a very old building, the charming house is steeped in character and history.
We travelled as an extended family group with grandparents and young children and it was suitable for all. There was plenty of space for everyone to feel comfortable. The decor was lovely and unfussy, which worked perfectly.
Everyone that we spoke to before the trip were lovely and so helpful.
The only thing we thought could be improved was possibly a bit of history on the building as it was quite interesting.
Thank you for such a lovely stay.
