Overview
Named after Princess Elizabeth, who visited the castle on several occasions and who would later in her life become the infamous Queen Elizabeth I of England, this lovely cottage was originally part of a paper mill, which was restored to make two cottages (Lady Jane Grey and Princess Elizabeth) and two apartments (St Kenelm and Oliver Cromwell), preserving the original exposed walls and beams throughout. (St Kenelm sits directly above Princess Elizabeth and Oliver Cromwell sits directly above Lady Jane Grey.)
The accommodation is arranged over two floors. Guests enter from a covered porch into a small hallway, with handy coat hooks, and pass through to an open-plan and very well-equipped kitchen with under-stairs storage (baby and cleaning equipment). The kitchen windows look out onto the private courtyard. Off the kitchen, and down three stairs, is the dining area with a large oak table, comfortably seating 4 guests. At the end of this large open-plan space is the living area, which leads out to the private courtyard. Upstairs there is one double bedroom a king-size bed and one spacious twin bedroom, as well as a family bathroom with a full-size bath and over-bath shower.

The dining area has a large circular oak table, seating 4, while the other end features a large, sink-in sofa + 2 armchairs, a smart TV, and oak coffee table. Double doors lead out to the courtyard with a table and seating, the perfect place to relax in the evening sun after a day exploring the Cotswolds.

Lovely cottage in a great location. Nice welcome pack on arrival. Comfy beds, good shower and large parking area, couple of mins walk to pubs, cafes and restaurants. Recommended and would definitely stay again if holidaying in The Cotswolds.

Great Cotswold location

The cottage exceeded expectations. Super modern kitchen and appliances gave us the atmosphere of an ancient property with the comfort of a modern building. Furniture and beds also comfortable. Location was great with nice walks on the Castle grounds.
Highly recommended.

Perfect location for walking, shops and restaurants. Admission to Castle was an added bonus.

Princess Elizabeth Cottage

We had booked two adjoining cottages for our daughter's wedding.
The location is perfect if you need to be close to Sudeley Castle.
However. On arrival I had no hot water and had to ask another cottage to use the shower.
The windows didn't stay open and could be dangerous if children were staying. The windows needed to be propped to stop the Sash falling down.
Sadly a few neighbours (quite scruffy looking) father by the garden wall smoking and walking around near by. The owner have a small refund to reflect the lack of hot water.

We loved the place! The castle far exceeded our expectations.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Princess Elizabeth Cottage. Very nicely decorated, lovely bed linens. Really enjoyed walking the town of Winchcombe and our visit to Sudeley Castle. A really great start to our 3 week vacation celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary.

Excellent location for our plans (Cheltenham races, Westonbirt Arboretum, Gloucester Cathedral.) Very warm comfortable property. The beds were lovely and comfy. Easy off-road parking. Local pubs had good food, The Corner Cupboard and The White Hart were excellent.

Amazing Cottage

We had an amazing stay at The Princess Elizabeth Cottage. What a fantastic property, actually bigger than what we was expecting. Had everything we needed. Some standard Tea & Coffee supplied with some milk and also a Nespresso machine with coffee & hot chocolate pods.....nice little touch. Hand and body soap & a couple loo rolls supplied in the bathroom and a couple of dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid supplied in the kitchen. Even had a little bbq on your private terrace. Everything we needed! It was lovely that we had free access to Sudeley Castle too, definitely worth the visit.
My only suggestion is that the sofas either have a vax wash or have sofa covers on them as there was a lot of stains on them. It didn't bother us too much as we covered them ourselves with the blankets from the bedrooms
Winchcombe itself is only a small little village with 4 little pubs, a couple of restaurants and other little shops but the other villages are only a short drive away.
Burton on the water ( Little Venice) is a must, so pretty and the water mill at Lower Slaughter too is cute.
On our last day we went to Cotswold farm park before our trip home. What a lovely little place and we got to bottle feed some sheep & goats too...a really lovely experience! Overall I would highly recommend staying at this accommodation.

Excellent stay at Princess Elizabeth Cottage

We enjoyed our stay and look forward on coming back. The cottage had all the amenities as a home with a full kitchen and living room. We also enjoyed the convenient location to the center of town.
Thomas Malerk
Enjoyed our 5 night stay.

We had a wonderful time at the Princess Elizabeth Cottage.
The setting is second to none. Beautiful scenery and only a 10 minute walk to the castle.
The only negatives no dishwasher tablets, and the frying pan was not compatible with the induction stove top.
Meryl McCarthy
Great location, but cottage in serious need of maintenance

Princess Elizabeth cottage is in great location near Sudeley Castle, and walking distance to Winchcombe. The location of the cottage is undoubtedly the main positive aspect, as well as the large and well equipped kitchen.
The rest of the cottage is unfortunately run down and in serious need of maintenance. The couches are worn out, the brown carpet is also worn out and stained, most windows have black mold on them, one of the beds had missing slats, various things in the bathroom are not working, and generally it needs a much more thorough clean. Overall, this is disappointing and not good value for money.

Perfect days

We stayed because we were going to a wedding at Sudeley Castle. Location was perfect, a few minutes drive away. The cottage had everything we needed and was a peaceful retreat at the end of the day.

Princess Elizabeth cottage

The cottage was large enough. the people before us, checked out late, so the cleaning staff were rushing to get it cleaned up for our check in. the floors were not very clean and it looked like something had been splased on one of the kitchen walls. The furniture in the living room, very tired and worn out, not comfortable. One of the dining chairs was all torn.
We were disappointed in the cottage`s condition. I stayed at the Gate house five years ago and loved it.

Great location

Had a lovely few days at the cottage at Sudeley Castle great location and lovely cottage. Only downside was the accommodation above us we could hear every footstep, chair moving, tv and toilet flushing slightly annoying!

Charming Cottage at a beautiful location

Charming Cottage on the grounds of Sudeley Castle less than a 5 minute walk from Winchcombe. For walkers a perfect location as a base. Close to Manu interesting towns and sightseeing.
Monique Luijpers
Excellent location, well equipped and comfortable

Sudeley Castle and Winchcombe are both 5 mins walk. The cottage is very well equipped and comfortable, also features old stone walls and exposed timbers. Free entrance to the castle works very well; we took our time over a couple of days exploring castle and gardens, highly recommended. Local pubs and restaurants offer very good food, all within 5 mins walk. We will highly likely visit the area again and, when we do, stay in one of the Studeley estate cottages.

Cottage stay

Lovely clean well equipped cottage. All equipment, furniture, linen etc excellent quality.Had a problem with the boiler on arrival which was dealt with efficiently. I have marked down on value for money as normal prices are good value but race week it is quite expensive for two, but that applies to all accommodation in the area.

Wonderful stay

Everything was wonderful . The only issue was the lantern outside that went on and off every 10 seconds and would shine right in bedroom window at night .

See below

An excellant cottage with easy parking. The hot tap in the bathroom basin needs urgent attention as the whole tap is loose and could cause a leak. There is a hook missing from the curtain in the rear bedroom.
It would be helpful - especially with olde tenants like us 80+ year olds - if there were handholds on the short steps when carrying food for the table from the kitchen. Nothing too intrusive - maybe rope type handholds or some thing similar.
We enjoyed our stay and recommended the cottages to friends who also came for Prescott.
Tony Morley
A very nice and idyllic place.

You found every thing you needed in the house.
Close to the town center , access to lovely food paths right beside the place,
A fine gesture with free tickets to the castle.
Can definitely recommend the place/house.

Great Cottage, Terrible Service

We stayed at the Princess Elizabeth cottage for 2 nights just before the bank holiday weekend. The cottage and the small community here is fantastic. An awesome place with great natural beauty. We also got free access to the castle, which was really the point!
Now, onto the bad bits. My wife is pregnant right now and its late April, so it can get quite cold in the evenings. No problem though (we assumed), as the cottage has central heating. Well, the master bedroom radiator didnt work. I figured that wed call the office the following morning and we would make a couple of hot water bottles for the night. But of course, the kettle didnt work! Maybe an error on the check, but theyll sort it the next day.
We tried the office numbers and everything else the following morning, and nobody answered. I also left a message, and nobody returned the call. It seems like the booking is online, and then you collect the key from a lockbox, and then you never see or here from anyone ever again during your stay. So 2 nights without a kettle or heating in the master bedroom despite paying over 220 GBP a night.

Fabulous cottage in a great location

We had a fabulous stay in the Princess Elizabeth cottage. The location in its own little courtyard and parking is a five minute walk to Winchcombe high street with all its facilities. The cottage itself is very spacious with a large kitchen. Beds are very comfortable. The kitchen has quality equipment and everything you need. The three welcome packs were much appreciated. We made use of the free entry to the castle and had a lovely few hours there . We would certainly stay again.

Comfortable, central and we'll furnished abode.

This cottage has all one needs and in a central location for walks, castle, pubs and shops. It is comfortable and spacious with a courtyard garden to enjoy breakfast.

Charming cottage in a great location

The courtyard setting of these old but beautifully restored cottages is lovely. The accommodation was clean, very well equipped and very comfortable.
We liked Princess Elizabeth as it has a sunny patio to enjoy an afternoon tea or pre dinner drink.
The town with several pubs and restaurants is a 5 minute walk so you dont need to move the car from the ample car park and free entry to the castle is a pleasant 15 minute stroll away.

Was ok

Very nice cottage
A bit worn out, hover was broken as was the back door bolts

Really well appointed cottage in excellent and quieet location

Good sized cottage with all modern amenities and high quality decor, furniture and equipment.
Quiet location with a walled garden and seating area.
Plenty of room, parking was easy and plenty of spaces.
Perfect base for walks in the area, as well as easy walk into Winchcombe.
In fact, the whole experience was so great, we are returning in September.
The only area to address is the garden furniture, which needs a coat of varnish and some screws tightening up; a small detail, but would complete the perfection.
The info pack in the cottage is really useful with local information and walking routes.
Quiet, well appointed, high quality property!

Peace and comfort for 3 days

We loved the location in Winchcombe, such a gorgeous village. The accommodation was extremely well set up with everything you could need for a few days. More than most self catering cottages provide. Very comfortable beds (essential) and lots of living space. Only problem, lack of chair or space for cases in the main bedroom, furniture could be improved. But everything else lovely. Definitely recommend.
Guest
Good base for short explorations into Cotswolds.

This cottage was comfortable and clean and an excellent base for day trips into the Cotswolds. Small shops were a very short walk away in Winchcombe itself. Bedding, towels and toiletries were good standard.
The negatives are few and not serious enough to impact our stay negatively and can be easily corrected.
1: The Television remote needs replacing; button selections are very unresponsive
2: There were no adequate sponges or scouring cloths in the kitchen which made cleaning the dishes and especially the cooking pans very difficult.
3:The induction hob was problematic to use and the electric kettle tended to affect the taste of the water after boiling.
4: The mattresses on our beds were judged to be too soft for us, though they may be perfectly acceptable for someone else.
These ''wrinkles'' can be easily smoothed.
Our stay was generally a positive experience.
Christopher Forage
A fantastic week

One of my concerns about going away during the pandemic was the cleanliness of the accommodation.
Princess Elizabeth cottage was immaculate. It had everything we needed in the kitchen and all the equipment and
appliances are top notch. The beds are comfy and theres plenty of storage space. We were very comfortable here and enjoyed it so much that we stayed an extra night. The cottage is on a small complex with plenty of parking. Its a few minutes stroll into
Winchcombe which has plenty of food shops, cafes , restaurants and pubs. Its also a short walk from Sudeley Castle and there
are some beautiful walks from the doorstep. Winchcombe is also well placed for visiting other areas in the Cotswolds.
The only downside for me is that there are two apartments above this and the adjoining cottage. Entry is via stairs which are
at the side of Princess Elizabeth. I found it to be noisier than I expected because of the apartment ie hearing people moving
about a lot even from the lounge and particularly from the bedroom. This didnt bother my husband and probably wouldnt bother a lot of people.
Guest
Princess Elizabeth cottage is excellent location

Sudeley cottages are an excellent location for the beautiful village of Winchcombe, which is 5 minutes walk away. It is also a good location to visit other villages( Broadway was beautiful too). There are a number of walks on your doorstep of different abilities. The price of the cottage included unlimited access to Sudeley castle and gardens, which was 10 minutes walk across the field. Winchcombe village had everything you need, shops, small supermarket and a number of excellent pubs and restaurants. We ate at 3 of them, which all had beer gardens and eating inside- good steps in place for social distancing and sanitisation at the moment. Food was good in them all. Particularly enjoyed our meal in the Corner Cupboard pub and the service was excellent in the Lion pub( they also had an app to order drinks outside).
The only negative was that Princess Elizabeth cottage and the cottage next door both have an apartment above( Oliver Cromwell and St Kenelm?) As it is an old building, the floorboards above are very creaky and loud. This is only a problem if the person above is an early bird and you are not!!
I would definitely recommend the other cottages in the complex, but not this one due to having people above.

Lovely Christmas Cottage

I thought it was lovely and cosy and an ideal place to stay for Christmas - the tree was a nice touch.
1 allocated parking space for each cottage would be an idea so guests from other cottages don't park in your space.
I dustpan and brush/broom would be useful - you have the space under the stairs.
Otherwise lovely.
Thank you

Excellent Accommodation

This was our second visit to Sudeley Castle holiday cottages in 6 months. On both occasions the accommodation was maintained to a very high standard. The location is excellent with Winchcombe town centre just a few hundred yards away.
Mark Doran
Lovely cottages close to the village centre

Really lovely cottage and so clean. Handy for village centre which is a 5 minute walk away and for local walks - no need to drive anywhere to do parts of the Cotswold Way, Winchcombe and Gloucestershire Ways. Sudley Castle is a fantastic place to visit and entry is free whilst staying in the cottages.
One small niggle was that we didnt expect there to be a flat above us and hence there was some noise heard whilst upstairs. Luckily there were two nights when it was empty! May be helpful to explain this better in the cottage description as I wasnt aware .
Otherwise great 5 night stay there.
Carole Nicholson
Fit for a princess

Such a lovely weekend cottage. Super comfortable and excellent amenities. We had the best weekend and would highly recommend.

Enjoyed my visit.

I enjoyed my visit, loved the cottage, it was comfortable and clean. Loved being set near the stream, the trees and location to the castle and to town. It was nice to walk to and from the castle.
One suggestion: the circle in the center of all of the cottages would be pretty if planted with roses or beautiful flowers.
Jan Barley
wedding guest

We booked the cottage to attend a wedding in the castle. It was clean and comfortable and very convenient for the town. Some information on where the footpath down to the castle was would have been good, although in the event is was too wet and muddy to use.
Carol Muhr
Really nice cottage in good position for exploring the Cotswolds

The cottage was really good, nice and spacious. Everything worked, it was very comfortable. Easy to park. Good position to go visiting the Cotswolds. Nice to have free entry to the castle and grounds. Friendly staff.
Our only gripe was that on our first night there was a wedding at the castle and most of the properties around us were hired by wedding guests who arrived back after midnight and kept us awake until 2 am when ten of them drank and talked for two hours behind our cottage.
The other two nights were really quiet though.
Would recommend this place.
Simon Vessey
Excellent location. Convenient for many places to visit.

Apart from the kitchen and bathroom the lighting is very poor making it difficult for reading in living areas and bedrooms. Some power points awkward to access as behind furniture. Minor decoration needed. Back door could not be locked with key as some wood missing on door jamb. Laundry not mentioned anywhere in information but I knew where it was as I had been last year.
My second visit and would come again but some improvements to the cottage would be appreciated.
Ann Humphries
Sudeley Castle Stay!

This was a very quaint stay! Loved it and within walking distance of town. I would suggest that you arrive during daylight as it is a bit difficult to find. Once there, parking was available but it took a while to figure out where to get keys. We found another guest and he showed us the phone number to call where the person gave us a code to get into the lock box. The place was so cute. Large living room with a full kitchen including packets of coffee/tea. Upstairs was two separate bedrooms one with a double/queen bed and the other with two twins. Both were very clean and adorable. We loved our stay there and of course the free entrance to Sudeley! There were a few restaurants open and a small grocery store. I would definnitely go back!
Darlene Fisher
Good for short break

Generally clean, kitchen floor was sticky. Back door lock was broken. Lighting was dim with energy light bulbs and only 2 loo rolls that were nearly finished.
Bedding very clean as well as towels. Not as modern as the other cottages.
Nicola Chanter
Wonderfully peaceful cottage and location

We loved staying at Sudeley castle! The history is fascinating and the castle tour is well worth the visit. The kids playground was a bonus for our kids who needed space to run out their energy! Its also a very short walk to the village of Winchcombe with shops and cafes.
We stayed in the Princess Elizabeth cottage which was spacious and comfortable. My only complaint is that the living room was very dusty. Not sure if the drapes needed a clean but the smell of dust was quite strong.
Also a suggestion: a washer/dryer in this unit wouldve been wonderful;)
Overall wed definitely stay again! We loved it!

Sudeley Castle Cottage

The Princess Elizabeth cottage was a great little cottage close to town and very quaint. Unfortunately, the customer service was terrible. We couldnt figure out the heating system and the shower and needed help, we called, left messages and texts but received no help but to say read the manual on the coffee table. (Which didnt have any of the information we needed). Because the customer service was so bad, we would not return.
Gabrielle Aguayo
nice place to stay

Although there were some niggles with the property the staff on site were very helpful.
Children loved the adventure playground - we loved the local pubs and places to eat.
Ken Madrell
Beautiful setting

We had a relaxing stay in beautiful location. The property was clean and comfortable and complimented the location.
Customer Service was excellent.
We have stayed here before and will use your service again.

Some structural problems

Love Sudeley castle, but cottage disappointing in that
1. Window in the bedroom slid right down when I tried to open it for ventilation at night, trapping my hand. I asked for it to be repaired and the following night found it had been nailed shut!,
2. The handle came off the bedroom door when I tried to open it, trapping me inside.
3. The bathroom shower was faulty, and only produced boiling hot water, dangerously hot. Also the shower fittings were loose, and the bath plug did not work.
